BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo Gets BMW M Performance Parts

BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo Gets BMW M Performance Parts

There’s a lot of choices to be made in this regard so owners of the 6 Series GT should choose wisely

BMW is good for a lot of things these days, and when it comes to introducing performance add-ons masquerading as extra options, the German automaker is as good as it gets in the business. In fact, M Performance parts have become staples among a long list of BMW models and it’s no surprise that we’re here to once again talk about another model getting the same goodies.

This time, the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo gets its turn in the spotlight, receiving its own line of M Performance goodies for the first time ever. As you might expect, the “extra” parts are all about enhancing the 6 Series GT’s looks and performance capabilities. The parts and accessories may be short on actual engine upgrades, but for the most part, the pieces are there to give the massive sedan the necessary modifications that will enhance the car’s aesthetic and aerodynamic features. Even better, Bimmer says that prospective customers of the 6 Series GT stand to get the full spec of accessories made available to them as soon as the model hits the market. There’s a long list of parts to choose from so owners with budgets might have to choose wisely which bits and bobs they’d like to put on their 6 Series GTs. That or they could just get everything. BMW probably doesn’t mind either scenario.

Ford Builds F-22 Raptor-Themed F-150 Raptor for Charity Auction

Ford Builds F-22 Raptor-Themed F-150 Raptor for Charity Auction

Upgrades include graphics, a lift kit, bigger tires, and more power

Ford has built a one-off, 2017 F-150 Raptor with an aeronautical theme for a charity auction for the Experimental Aircraft Association’s annual Gathering of Eagles fundraiser. The truck is dubbed the “F-22 Raptor” in an obvious hat-tip to the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor stealth tactical fighter jet. The F-150 sports several modifications, including a grille with the F22’s silhouette, off-road lights, a custom graphics package, a larger wheel and tire setup, and modifications to the EcoBoost engine giving it 545 horsepower.

Ford design manager, Melvin Betancourt, headed the build with backing from the Ford Performance Team, meaning this isn’t some aftermarket hack job. “This F-150 Raptor is a new look at Ford’s tradition of building unique vehicles in support of EAA’s youth aviation programs,” Betancourt says. “We know this truck will create an unmatched buzz around this year’s Gathering of Eagles auction.” Last year, Ford built a Shelby GT350 Mustang called Ole Yeller to pay homage to the P-51D Mustang fighter from WWII. That car raised $295,000. This year’s F-150 F-22 Raptor goes under the gavel on Thursday, July 27 at the EAA’s AirVenture aircraft show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. All proceeds will help inspire and educate youth about flying.

Land Rover Sets Sights On Competing Against The Bentley Bentayga

Land Rover Sets Sights On Competing Against The Bentley Bentayga

British automaker certainly has the know-how to make it a compelling possibility

Land Rover has been around long enough that nobody should ever question the automaker’s SUV pedigree. But as it is in the auto industry, there’s enough room for even Land Rover to improve on its current status. That appears to be what the company is thinking about these days with the explosion in popularity of the ultra-luxury SUV segment. While the market is still in its infancy, the Bentley Bentayga has been killing it, and Land Rover appears to be keen on joining in on the fun with its own ultra-luxury SUV.

Land Rover design chief Gerry McGovern even alluded to this, telling Automotive News Europe that the company is open to the idea of developing a legitimate range-topping model of the Range Rover that can compete directly with the Bentayga. McGovern even points out that the Range Rover sub-brand has a “big expanse across its price range,” making it easy to step up its game with a model that falls in the range of the extremely popular Bentley SUV. A look at the price disparity between the top-of-the-line Range Rover LWB (starts at $140,995) and the Bentley Bentayga ($229,100) and it’s easy to see why Land Rover is so intrigued by the idea of an ultra luxury Range Rover. The question now is whether the U.K.-based automaker will follow through on these perceived plans. A business case can certainly be made considering how the ultra-luxury SUV market is shaping up to be, and if there’s one company that can legitimately say it has the tools and the pedigree to make it happen, it’s Land Rover.

The Highs and Lows of Subaru's 2018 WRX STI

The Highs and Lows of Subaru’s 2018 WRX STI

Thoughts after spending a week with Subaru’s newest rally racer

Subaru has given the WRX STI a mild refresh for 2018 – with a strong emphasis on mild. The press materials contain bullet points like, “optimized suspension, revised styling, and bigger brakes.” But how do these changes actually affect the car? Well, after spending a week with the latest STI, I’m separating the wheat from the chaff. Which of these updates should Subi fans be happy about and which don’t really matter?

I’ve already given a full account of these updates, along with my thoughts behind the wheel, in my Driven Review. But for the sake of time, here’s a quick run-down on what’s new for 2018. The front fascia is new, with a slightly larger lower grille and more pronounced faux air intakes to either side. The fog lights are gone, sadly, but Subaru added adaptive headlights that turn with the steering wheel. The main grille is new, too. Larger, 19-inch wheels are now standard, as are bigger Brembo brakes. Subaru updated the suspension for “better handling and ride comfort.” There’s also a new, fully electric center differential that’s said to more quickly distribute torque between the front and rear axles. Interior mods include a larger vehicle information screen in the center dash and better sound insulation for a quieter ride.

Aston Martin Throws Down The Hammer On Flipping Valkyrie Reservation Slots

Aston Martin Throws Down The Hammer On Flipping Valkyrie Reservation Slots

Those who get caught will lose their reservations for the hypercar and get permanently shut out on future special editions

If any of you happen to have a reserved slot for the Aston Martin Valkyrie, don’t even think about flipping that slot just so you can make easy money out of it. Well, you could still do it technically, but if Aston Martin catches you - a good chance it will - you’ll not only lose your reservation slot, but you’ll also get the door shut on you on any future Aston Martin special edition models. Permanently.

That edict comes from no less than Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer, who responded to a tweet showing a Dubai-based dealership selling a “build slot” for the Valkyrie. In his own words, Palmer said: "I doubt they have a slot, but if they do and we identify who flipped, they lose the car." As if that’s not enough, if Aston catches anybody with their hands inside the proverbial cookie jar, they also lose out on any future special edition models the British automaker may build. The lesson then here is quite simple: don’t flip those build slots if you want to remain in the company’s good graces. If you do decide to go for it and you end up getting caught, I can’t imagine a worse punishment in this circumstance than losing out on buying the Valkyrie.

2018 Ford Mustang Order Guide Leaked

2018 Ford Mustang Order Guide Leaked

There’s some interesting choices here.

The sixth-generation Mustang is a pretty big deal. It was introduced for 2015 and was the most advanced pony to roll out of Ford’s stable to date. The biggest highlights included the introduction of the EcoBoost four-cylinder – the first four-cylinder to be offered in the ‘Stang for a while – and a new independent rear suspension system, a first since the car was first introduced back in 1964. After just a couple of years on the market, Ford realized it’s EcoBoost drivetrain was a real winner, and eventually dropped the base V-6, leaving just the 310-horsepower EcoBoost and the 435-horsepower Coyote V-8. For 2018, Ford recently announced that the line-lock feature from the GT track package will now come standard across the line, but now we’re finally getting a look at the order guide companion for the first time, and there are quite a few options to talk about.

All told, there are three different packages available for the EcoBoost and GT models: a performance package, a black accent package, and a new Carbon Sport interior package – essentially letting you get a little bit of that supercar feel inside your new pony. But, there’s a lot of little things to cover in this companion guide, so let’s take a closer look at what you can order before you get to the dealer.

China's Elevated Bus Project Was A Scam After All

China’s Elevated Bus Project Was A Scam After All

Heads will roll as local Chinese government opens investigation

It seemed like a good idea at first, maybe even revolutionary, but like most good ideas with no follow through, the elevated bus that was being developed in China appears to have been nothing more than a scam. According to local newspaper Southern Metropolis Daily, Chinese authorities have opened up an investigation on the people behind the “Transit Elevated Bus” for alleged illegal fundraising.

The report also says that over 30 people connected to the capital-raising platform Huaying Kailai have been detained and are under investigation. This comes after 72 investors in the project filed lawsuits against the company, which was able to raise over 9 billion yuan, or roughly around $1.3 billion, since the project’s highly publicized debut in Qinghuangdao last year. Apparently, the promise of a technological revolution on Chinese roads quickly devolved into suspicion about the company’s real agenda. Design firm Autek learned quickly about the veracity of the company after having to foot the bill for the millions spent working on the bus. Things got worse when the test track that was used in the unveiling of the elevated bus was left on the road with seemingly no intention of getting packed up. Ultimately, the local government of Qinghuangdao ordered the tracks be destroyed and the test bus sent to a parking garage, presumably to collect dust for the foreseeable future.

Ducati's devil falls in the hands of Fred Krugger to work his witchcraft on it.

Ducati’s devil falls in the hands of Fred Krugger to work his witchcraft on it.

Calling it as The Thiverval, the Belgian magician has pushed evil boundaries here.

When Ducati rolled out the Diavel prototype for the first time out of the factory in 2010, one person who saw that chiselled rear exclaimed saying "Ignurànt comm’ al Diavel!" in Bolognese dialect. That means "Evil, like the devil!". The rest, as they say, is history.

Fast forward seven years and the Diavel still manages to rumble on the streets with aplomb and break necks, unlike anything. Now, Ducati has commissioned a Belgian custom builder Fred Krugger, one of planet earth’s highly acclaimed custom builder, to work his magic potion on the XDiavel S. The bike was showcased at the Bikers’ Classics at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, that was held on the first weekend of July 2017.

Volvo To Sell Only Hybrids in 2019; Promises 5 EVs by 2021

Volvo To Sell Only Hybrids in 2019; Promises 5 EVs by 2021

Bye-bye gasoline- and diesel-only drivetrains!

Swedish automaker Volvo has just announced that every car it launches from 2019 onward will have an electric motor, in a move to gradually phase out and replace internal combustion engines with more efficient and environmentally friendly drivetrains. While this doesn’t mean that Volvo will give up on gasoline and diesel engines altogether, it will make it the first premium carmaker that puts an electric motor in each and every vehicle in its lineup. And on top of turning its current cars into hybrids, Volvo also plans to launch five all-electric vehicles between 2019 and 2021. Not many details are available, but Volvo says three will be Volvo models, while to will be high-performance Polestar versions.

The firm added that these five cars will be supplemented by a range of gasoline and diesel plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid options on all models, which confirms that the EVs will be built on the current scalable platforms, meaning they will carry familiar nameplates. Expect a hatchback, a sedan, and a crossover to be the first to gain all-electric drivetrains. “This is about the customer,” said Håkan Samuelsson, Volvo president and chief executive. “People increasingly demand electrified cars and we want to respond to our customers’ current and future needs. You can now pick and choose whichever electrified Volvo you wish.”

Like the BMW X3? We’ve Got Your Wallpapers Right Here!

Keep that desktop fresh, will ya?

The X3 has been on the market for 14 years as of 2018, and in its first two generations, its saw amazing success. 2018, however, brings about the third-gen model and BMW has somehow managed to make the X3 even better, with clear intentions to add greatly to the current 1.5 million X3 registrations on record. And, that’s saying a lot considering it has to compete against some pretty tough models. The Audi Q5 and Mercedes GLC class aren’t exactly models to sneeze at, but the X3 is coming to the party with more under its belt than ever, including a 355-horsepower, 369 pound-food monster of an inline-six that can be found exclusively in the M40i. As such, the competition has a lot to worry about, and we’re mighty impressed.

Even in base form, the 2.0-liter four-cylinder offers up a decent 248 ponies and 258 pound-feet, enough to get it to 60 mph in six second flat while topping out at 130 mph. Meanwhile, it’s better-equipped brother hits the same benchmark in 4.6 seconds – that’s 0.2 seconds faster than the Mercedes-AMG GLC43 and 1.4-seconds faster than the 3.0-liter-equipped Audi Q5. On top of that, it has the modern looks necessary to stand out (no more round fog lights, either) and a pretty plush interior if you ignore the cheapish aluminum trim. Of course, a real man would opt for the ambient lighting package, but don’t worry we won’t judge ;) With that said, we’ve put together a few of our favorite shots that will make perfect wallpapers for all of you X3 fans out there!

The Most Exciting Goodwood HIll Climb Videos From Over The Weekend

The Most Exciting Goodwood HIll Climb Videos From Over The Weekend

Sit back and enjoy these incredible videos and crashes

Just as we’re coming back to earth after a festive 4th of July weekend, it’s a good time to sit back and enjoy what took place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. As always, the FOS lived up to the hype in bringing in a trove of vehicles from different generations. There were classic cars from the halcyon days of the auto industry. There were world debuts of new cars, public unveilings of future cars, and let’s not forget all those Ferraris in attendance that were there to celebrate Maranello’s 70th anniversary.

One of the really cool things about the Goodwood Festival of Speed is, that unlike any other auto show in the calendar, a lot of the cars that show up there aren’t just showcase models that sit idly on platforms as the world looks at them. The cars that attend Goodwood are far more active, some of them even partaking in the Hill Climb event that has come to be one of the most identifiable events of the weekend-long festivities. So as we dig into all that happened at Lord March’s estate over the weekend, might as well spend some time enjoying some of the most memorable cars that partook in the Hill Climb. Not all of them were successful in completing the short course, but these cars still found ways to get a lot of people to talk about them.
