Engineering Heritage Evident in the Foundation of Kawasaki’s Full-Size Mule Line

Those looking for a full-sized Side x Side should start with the 2014 Kawasaki Mule™ 4000. With durable engineering and strong components throughout, it is a vehicle built to get the job done, no matter how big or how small. Another evolution of Kawasaki’s proud manufacturing heritage, the Mule 4000’s heavy-duty chassis and industrial grade four-stroke V-twin engine with digital fuel injection offer enough torque to haul seriously heavy loads. With a towing capacity of 1,200 pounds and the ability to carry up to 800 pounds of almost anything in its cargo bed, there’s a reason this Mule is the cornerstone of Kawasaki’s 4000 series Side x Side line.

A fully automatic transmission and locking rear differential allow the Mule 4000 to tackle tough terrain with ease, while a burly front brush guard of tubular steel helps protect the nose from debris and minor impacts. Cabin features such as a combination digital fuel gauge and hour meter are easy to read, while attention was paid to details including a dash-mounted horn button that eliminates unintended honking while turning. A sturdy sport-style steering wheel enhances driver comfort for those long days at work or those longer days escaping from it.

If there’s one thing the Mule 4000 is not lacking, it’s power. Its liquid-cooled 617cc four-stroke V-twin is managed by a digital Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and features a Digital Fuel Injection (DFI®) system that compensates for variations in atmospheric pressure, engine and air temperature. The result is smooth and consistent power, easy starting, crisp throttle response and precise fuel metering, which helps reduce fuel consumption and lower emissions. The ECU incorporates an automatic fast idle speed control that activates when the engine is cold, eliminating the need for a manual choke. Maximum engine speed is regulated electronically, so there’s no need for a mechanical governor.
