High Performance Close Ratio On-Demand AWD
The best just got better, the high-performance close ratio AWD system engages all four tires faster than ever when you need more traction. Works with the EPS system to provide Sportsman signature handling and reverts back to 2WD when you’re back on solid ground.

Maximum Headlight Power
Two lights are located in the front bumper and one mounted in the handlebar pod. Maximize your lighting with the ability to have all three on at once for 150 W of power.
Smoothest Riding Features:
Ergonomics For Your Comfort
With the engine rotated 90 degrees, riders enjoy 33% wider floorboards and narrow vehicle width at the knees and ankles. The narrower seat reduces leg fatigue and increases rider comfort.
Electronic Power Steering (EPS)
The smoothest, most responsive power steering available, with 30% more power assist than the leading competitor, plus Variable Assist for easier steering at lower speeds. Our EPS lets you ride all day with less fatigue from steering.
Class-leading Ground Clearance
With nearly 12" of ground clearance, clear bigger rocks, navigate deeper ruts, and go where other ATVs can’t.
Legendary Smooth Rolled IRS
Years of innovation and relentless tuning have refined the ride to a level unmatched in the industry. Rolled Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) angles the shocks rearward for 10.25" of travel leading to a smoother ride and less squat during acceleration.
Placing the steering axis near the neutral center of the tire and having the long Dual A-Arm Front Suspension dramatically reduces kickback and minimizes rider fatigue that comes with jolts to the handlebars from trail and ground obstacles.
Supreme Vehicle Control With ADC and EBS
Active Descent Control (ADC) and Engine Braking System (EBS) work together to control downhill braking to give you optimum control and smooth, even deceleration during descents.

“For 2015 Polaris brings two 1000cc Sportsmans to the big bore ute category. The Sportsman XP 1000 and the Sportsman Touring XP 1000 2-seater both aim to reset the bar with class leading power and performance. The two new 2015 Sportsman XP 1000s are not just bigger bore XP 850s and they are a whole lot more refined than just adding racks to the Scrambler 1000. The Sportsman XP 1000 and 1000 Touring are both premium equipped luxury models aimed at increased comfort, performance, and workability. Polaris electronic power steering (EPS), engine braking system (EBS), and active descent control (ADC) just to name a few of the notable included upgrades.
The core of the XP 1000 is the 88 HP ProStar engine. The single overhead cam, 1000cc twin engine is based on the proven 850 twin. Class leading HP is coupled with a new high-performance close-ratio, On-Demand, true AWD system that is said to maximize traction. Polaris EPS provides effortless steering and reduced kickback, affording the rider all-day ride enjoyment with less abuse to forearms and upper body. EBS and ADC control downhill braking for effortless, smooth and controlled descents with even deceleration to all four wheels.
While looking at performance specs, the new 88 HP Sportsman leads the pack compared to the 82 HP Can Am Outlander. While we have not had an opportunity to ride these machines back to back, the Sportsman also weighs 64 pounds more than the Outlander. In most opinions, the absence of 64 pounds could be very close to making up for the missing 6 HP. We’ll have to put the two head to head in the near future to answer this question.” ----- 4wheeldirt
“The new Sportsman XP 1000 is powered by the 952cc ProStar single overhead cam 1000 Twin engine. It produces a claimed 88 horsepower, compared to 82 horsepower for the Outlander 1000. That’s an 18-horepower gain over the 2014 flagship Sportsman XP 850. The fuel-injected big bore engine features a 270-degree offset crankshaft and dual balance shafts. Other features include a new high-performance, close-ratio, On-Demand, True All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system, standard electronic power steering and Polaris’ Engine Braking System (EBS) with Active Descent Control (ADC). Polaris said its ADC Active controls downhill braking for "optimal control and smooth, even deceleration to all four wheels."
Towing capacity is listed at an impressive 1,500 pounds (200 more pounds than the Outlander) and you can carry more gear on the ATV as Polaris boasts the biggest rack capacity in the industry (120 pounds up front and 240 pounds in the back). Throw in 100 built-in, tie-down points and it should be easy to strap down just about anything you’d need to bring along for the ride.
Cushioning the ride of the Sportsman XP 1000 is front and rear dual A-arm front and rear suspension controlling nine inches of travel in the front and 10.25 inches in the rear and allowing for 11.5 inches of ground clearance.
One possible issue with the new Sportsman is its weight. It tips the scales at a whopping 823 pounds dry (no fuel or fluids of any kind). That’s 64 more pounds than the Outlander 1000, which does much to negate Polaris’ six-horsepower advantage.” ----- atv.com
