2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe

2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe

After showing the world what a CTS Coupe could look like, the next logical step for the Cadillac family was to add a factory tuned V-Series version of the new Coupe to the American luxury automaker’s range. The CTS-V Coupe will be the last version in the CTS lineup with no convertible model currently scheduled for production.

Just like the award winning Cadillac CTS-V, the Coupe is powered by an LSA 6.2 Liter supercharged Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 V8 that makes a maximum output of 556 HP and 551 lb-ft of torque and is mated to either a Tremec TR6060 six speed manual with a twin plate clutch to handle the extra horse power or a Hydra-Matic 6L90 six speed automatic complete with paddle shifters on the steering wheel that allow you to push button your way from 0 to 60 MPH in only 3.9 seconds.

The exterior of this sporty coupe features a modified front grill that essentially doubles the CTS’s air intake volume as well as a raised center section in the hood to provide room for the blower that eventually spits spent gasses out of a unique twin tipped center exit exhaust. However the CTS-V Coupe is capped off by the 19 inch cast aluminum alloys that are available in either painted or polished finishes and wrapped with a set of sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 2 performance tires, all housing a monstrous set of Brembo brake calipers. We just hope they have enough spare parts left over to make a couple CTS-V Sport Wagons.

Updated 01/13/10: Three new videos added, including the Detroit revealing and the presentation video. Check them out!

UPDATE 01/03/2011: Cadillac has just revealed two new commercials for the CTS-V Coupe featuring Lawrence Fishburne. The commercials are called "Red Blooded Luxury" and "Arrows" and both feature the same tagline: "We don’t just make luxury cars, we make Cadillacs." Check them out by clicking on the picture above.

UPDATE 08/29/11: According to Cadillac, the breadth of technology that was used on the CTS-V represents a significant breakthrough in the industry, especially their so-called "Magnetic Ride Control Technology." Exactly how much of an innovation is it? Apparently, enough to even make Ferrari borrow it. Check out the new Cadillac commercial explaining how it all happened.

2010 - 2011 Mazda RX-8

2010 - 2011 Mazda RX-8

First launched in 2003 as a replacement for the rotary powered RX-7, the Mazda RX-8 received a face lift in 2009. Even if the four door sports car was a success from the beginning, the little 13B equipped RX-8 made the most of a refreshed exterior and interior with bolder lines and even more details, it was exactly what the car needed to stay ahead in the sport compact market. Available in three trim levels: Sport, Grand Touring and R3, the new RX-8 offers something for everyone from the entry level rear wheel drive shopper to the hard core enthusiast with prices ranging from $26,495 to $32,660. For 2010, the Mazda RX-8 receives a new front bumper design with a larger grille opening and more pronounced front lip that was actually requested by the racing team, new headlamps, wider front fenders, LED clusters in the back and a redesigned rear bumper with larger exhaust tips.

The inside of the freshened RX-8 benefits from some new trim materials making a sportier cockpit and the tachometer now features a variable red zone that rises as the engine comes up to temperature, just like the V8 powered BMW M3. However instead of an octet of pistons pumping up and down under the hood, there lies a compact 13B twin rotor Renesis engine making 232 HP at a screaming 8,200 RPM and 155 lb-ft of torque. This allows the RX-8 to accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in just 6.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 145 MPH.

UPDATE 08/22/2011: Mazda is shutting down production of the RX-8 due to lackluster sales and ever tighter global emissions standards. Last year, the company was only able to sell 1,134 units and this year, sales through July have dropped 21%. Production in Hiroshima, Japan ceased in July and US dealers only have 300 units left to sell this year.

2010 Bugatti 16 C Galibier

2010 Bugatti 16 C Galibier

This past March at the Geneva Motor Show, the Swedish super car company Keonigsegg revealed the NLV Quant electric sedan. Well now it is the exotic Italian coachbuilder Bugatti’s turn, and Ettore’s original brand has done quite an impressive job on the all new Bugatti 16 C Galibier concept that was unveiled this past weekend in Molsheim. According to the automaker the upcoming super car will become "the most exclusive, elegant, and powerful four door automobile in the world."

The Galibier’s design is based on the Bugatti Type 35, a model that also inspired the 1001 HP Bugatti Veyron super car. The 16 C concept features the traditional Bugatti radiator complimented by big round LED lit headlamps and the clamshell running the length of the vehicle which became synonymous with the brand identity under Jean Bugatti in the Type 57.

Under the bonnet, the 16 C concept can stand up to the almighty Veyron, becasue Bugatti has placed a 8.0 Liter 16 cylinder engine boosted with a two stage supercharging system, that features an ethanol mode. The Galiber was designed with smooth lines that will allow it to slipstream past the competition should it ever go into production. The concept also features a four wheel drive, a purpose built performance suspension and very exotic ceramic brakes to ensure that the 16 C Galiber can handle the speeds the pair of blowers up front are going to generate.

The interior of the 16 C Galiber concept reflects the pure and simple design of the exterior, because after all there is something beautiful about being basic. The dash been reduced to include only the essential. Two centrally located dials keep even the rear passengers up to speed about the details of their experience. There is even an Aston Martin rivaling timepiece that has been integrated into the super car concept. Parmigiani, the Swiss maker of fine watches, created the removable Reverso Tourbillon clock for the Galibier, which may be worn on the wrist thanks to a cleverly designed leather strap.

2010 Toyota FT-86 Concept

2010 Toyota FT-86 Concept

The speculation is over, the Japanese automaker Toyota has finally shown the world the highly anticipated successor to the original AE86 "Hachi Roku" with the FT-86 Concept. The old Toyota Corolla was celebrated for its lightweight fun to drive layout. The new project has previously been referred to as a Toyobaru because the affordable sports car was developed in collaboration with Subaru and is scheduled to make its world debut in just a few weeks at the Tokyo Motor Show. We are happy to report that even though this is just the concept, the production model will look a lot like it, with the only revisions being done to the cars interior. However we won’t know for sure until the end of 2011.

The Flash Red FT-86 Concept is inspired by the Corolla based AE86 sports coupe from the 1980s, and carries a very strong resemblance to the FT-HS Concept that was revealed back in 2007 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The FT-86 is a compact, rear wheel drive sports concept powered by a 2.0 Liter horizontally opposed, naturally aspirated four cylinder gasoline burning engine supplied by Subaru. In its non boosted form, the flat four make a maximum output of 150 HP, but the automaker is toying around with the idea of a more powerful super charged version depending on consumer demands, but for now we will have to settle for a simple boxer engine connected to a 6 speed manual transmission and equipped with ADVICS brakes.

When designing the FT-86 Concept Toyota’s engineers wanted to give the car a very low center of gravity for improved handling and efficient aerodynamics so that it can cut through the air with ease. So the four passenger FT-86 ended up being 4,160 mm long, 1,760 mm wide and 1,260 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,570 mm. Toyota’s design team has also included quite a few sporting touches to the concept’s interior; starting off with a flat bottom steering wheel, aluminum pedals and red stitching to accent the leather wrapped steering wheel and parking brake lever. The grey instrument panel is seamlessly molded into the darker dash and from the looks of things, is ready to hit Fuji Speedway.

Updated 05/03/2010: Toyota revealed new images of the FT-86 (Future Toyota-86) during the concept’s European debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Check the gallery to see them all!

Volkswagen Corrado by Patrick Moczarsky

Volkswagen Corrado by Patrick Moczarsky

The German automaker VW has only made one vehicle that they feel confident calling a sports car when they introduced the Volkswagen Corrado back in 1988 as a successor to the lightweight fun to drive Scirocco, and ever since the the sleek two door went the way of the dinosaurs in 1996, enthusiasts have been dreaming about the car’s return to the market. So when VW started showing off their IROC concept and eventual Scirocco street car, it only begged the question, what about a new Corrado?

The crew at Miranda Media certainly aren’t the first, but seem to have come up with the best rendering that we have seen so far with their take on a future Corrado. While we always figured the old SEAT Leon Cupra R would make a great base, their concept is a dynamic blend of the old model and progressive design with a little Golf R hidden underneath. The concept features a subtle rear spoiler that can raise automatically, just like the original, a set of lightweight alloy wheels, aggressively swept back headlamps and larger intakes in the front bumper.

2010 Audi A5 Cabriolet

2010 Audi A5 Cabriolet

When the luxurious four ringed German automaker introduced the all new Audi A5 complete with sleek styling and a sporty fastback coupe character thanks to its stretched mid section and its elongated lines the world took notice. So it was only a matter of time before they decided to drop the top and come up with the most attractive Audi Cabriolet of all time. The new Audi A5 Cabriolet was such a good new car design; featuring the fastest folding rag top in its segment, taking only 15 seconds to be stowed away and can even operate at speeds of up to 30 MPH, and not to mention that the Audi Acoustic Roof technology gives the new A5 Cabriolet interior noise levels on par with a hard top. That the folks back in the motherland decided to effectively use it to replace the smaller A4 based convertible, for good.

The model we were fortunate enough to become familiar with was a well equipped Ibis White 2010 Audi A5 2.0 TFSI FWD Multitronic Cabriolet set off by a Brown Roof and slightly sweeter Cinnamon brown interior. The combination of Xenon charged headlamps and LED driving lights and rear clusters ensured that we would clearly see the road ahead as well as being seen by everyone around us. On the inside we enjoyed such creature as Bluetooth hands free connectivity while sitting snugly inside the ventilated and heated sport buckets wrapped in perforated milano leather and get a little extra help from the large colorful LCD navigation display with built in back up camera that also controls the Audi Multi Media Interface (MMI).

Powered by a combination of forward thinking and fuel efficient turbocharging and direct injection, the 2.0 Liter TFSI four cylinder produced a total of 211 HP and 258 lb-ft of torque being routed to the 18 inch 15 spoke rollers via Audi’s FrontTrak front wheel drive Multitronic CVT transaxle to a top speed of 130 MPH while returning an estimated 23 MPG in the city and as much as 30 MPG on the highway all starting at $42,000 and climbing up to a nicely equipped $51,525.

Move over MyTouch meet the Truckputer

The Blue Oval recently introduced their next generation MyFord Touch driver connect technology that blends Ford’s signature in car infotainment features into a seamless cohesive electronic experience that features intuitive controls, voice activation and interface personalization. The next generation SYNC system is centered around an eight inch touch screen mounted in the center stack that works in conjunction with additional LCD displays in the instrument cluster that works with Ford’s innovative new five way button controls on the steering wheel and simplified by voice commands. However with the way that wireless technology is advancing with items like the iPad, we got to thinking, why don’t manufacturers offer docking stations for laptops and other computer based systems, much like you would find inside of a police car.

So when a former Motorola engineer and good friend of ours decided to make his F-150 a bit more high tech by installing what he calls the Truckputer inside his Supercrew, it really caught our attention. So while MyTouch allows you to do all those cool things that Ford’s engineers deemed appropriate, the advantages of running an open source system like this Linux based unit include the ability to burn DVDs, listen to the HD radio, watch movies, surf the internet with WiFi, look up directions with GPS based navigation, make hands free calls with Bluetooth connectivity and voice commands thanks to the built in microphone. Although it won’t let you do smoky burnouts more easily, at least not yet, the beauty of a system like this is its infinite capabilities. So if a PC can do it, so can the Truckputer; but hey at least the MyTouch screen is an inch bigger.

Bobby Allison's Dodge Charger Daytona

Bobby Allison’s Dodge Charger Daytona

Last year towards the end of the NASCAR season we had the opportunity to talk with three time Daytona 500 winner and South Florida native Bobby Allison about his life in the stock car circuit. One of his more memorable machines was a red and gold Coca-cola sponsored 1970 Dodge Charger Daytona, that oddly enough never even turned a wheel in competition, recently went up for auction at the 2010 Mecum Auto Auctions in Kissimmee, FL.

What makes this car so special, aside from the over sized wing towering over the rear end that was designed to provide down force and stability at over 200 MPH on the high banks of super speedways like Talladega and the track the car was named after, Daytona. For the 1970 season, the man in charge of NASCAR, Bill France, handicapped the big winged race cars by limiting their displacement forcing racers to choose between sheer power and aerodynamic optimization. Never being one to back down from a challenge, Allison and car builder Mario Rossi decided to try their luck with a destroked version of the 426 Hemi that only displaced 305 cubic inches.

Any enthusiast knows that there is no replacement for displacement, but any engine builder will tell you that for every 0.1 Liters you lose, the motor gains about 2,000 RPM. While the new combination looked promising for the 1970 NASCAR season, Mr. France flexed his muscle once again and banned the car from competition, so the world was never able to see what a big winged high revving Hemi could have done on track. Unfortunately the one of a kind test mule didn’t sell at auction despite registering a high bid of $210,000.

Back in the early 1960’s Bill Ford wanted to go racing at Le Mans to settle a score with Enzo Ferrari after the Italian racer suddenly backed out of a deal where the FoMoCo would absorb the Scuderia, and with it all of their competition cars. Thus is the story if the legendary Ford GT-40, which eventually won the historic race twice around the clock four times in a row from 1966 to 1969, dethroning the Italian stallion and making names for driving greats like Dan Gurney, A.J. Foyt, Pedro Rodríguez and Jacky Ickx.

A modern day interpretation of the iconic Ford GT will once again represent the Blue Oval at 2010 running of the 24 hours of Le Mans thanks to the Matech Competition team. "This is great recognition for the whole team who have worked very hard on this Ford GT1 project. That our car has been considered for this 78th edition exceeds our wildest dreams. The 24 Hours of Le Mans are as much a legend as Ford’s adventure at Le Mans. Now we need to prove that both the team and the car are ready for the unique challenge that is Le Mans. We are equally pleased that our customer team, MarcVDS Racing, has also received an invitation to the race, and we look forward to providing them with our support as we do in the GT1 World Championship." While a four-peat may be difficult to do in the 21st century, the Matech Ford GT will definitely have history on its side when the green flag drops at the Circuit de la Sarthe this June.

2010 Jaguar XK

2010 Jaguar XK

We’ve seen Jaguar’s modern day interpretation of the classic E-type sports car before, and although it looked a lot like the latest member of the Top Speed test fleet, she was a feline of a completely different nature. That is because our Liquid Silver Jaguar XK convertible is powered by the now Indian automaker’s all new 5.0 Liter V8 that makes a total of 385 HP and 380 lb-ft of torque propelling the drop top sports coupe from 0 to 60 MPH in only 5.2 seconds while returning as much as 22 MPG on the highway.

Whereas last year’s model felt a bit tame; the new XK, even in naturally aspirated form, is packing enough power under the hood to satisfy more than a few desperate housewives. Much of the 2010 XK’s exterior remains the same, the only update for the new year are a pair of thin slits that serve as air intakes on either side of the front bumper as opposed to the previous model’s round fog lights while the new car’s lower air dam has been squared off with a few 90 degree angles. Starting up front the Jaguar’s familiar fish eye headlights frame the E-Type inspired retro round opening in the front bumper and the XK’s blistered wheel arches house a set of multi spoke Caravela alloys measuring 19 inches in diameter. While out back our feline retains its familiar round rear end.

On the inside the Jaguar XK is finished like a fine English sports car. Pieced together with high quality materials ranging from Burl Walnut veneer to the polished aluminum cup holders and seat controls, suede on the A pillar and soft Ivory/Oyster leather that covers the seats, dash and door panels. Every item that you can touch takes the XK one step beyond what you would expect from ordinary automobiles. One fun touch for driving enthusiasts is that the perforated leather wrapped front seats have multiple power adjustments, allowing the driver to inflate a pair of adjustable hip bolsters that inflate to keep them in place during spirited driving. On the other hand our XK came with the same complicated touch screen navigation system that controls everything from climate control to the satellite radio. At an even $89,000 our 2010 XK is a perfect example of just how luxurious a base model Jaguar can be.

2012 Ferrari F70 rendered

2012 Ferrari F70 rendered

After last week’s announcement that the Italian automaker Ferrari is planning on topping off their lineup of exotic dream machines with an all new super car to head up the high performance lineup and celebrate nearly 70 years of success with a car that is currently codenamed the F70. The new super car will serve as a successor to the Enzo and there are also rumors flying around that it will also be offered as a hybrid.

Like the lightweight Mille Chili concept, Ferrari will focus on reducing the next generation halo car’s mass in an attempt to increase speed and handling without necessarily having to force more air and fuel into the F70’s combustion chambers. The way it looks now, the F70 will be based around a compact footprint and weigh in at no more than 1,000 kilograms. Meanwhile under the rear deck lid there is rumored to sit a supercharged V8 making a maximum output of 700 HP when it is unveiled in 2012. Like Enzo Ferrari always said, build one less then you think you can sell, so the very special F70 will be limited to only 399 units.

Only a few hours ago we told you about the Japanese premium automaker’s plans to release a razor sharp Special Edition Subaru WRX STI complete with a host of suspension parts from the track tuned Spec C model. Well now the all wheel drive automaker is telling us that they are also bringing a more luxurious Limited Edition of the slightly less powerful WRX to the L.A. Auto Show.

Although it’s not an STI with its more mundane 265 HP 2.5 Liter turbocharged flat four, however with its symmetrical all wheel drive system and refined interior this is much like the leather wrapped Limited model that Subaru sold back in 2007. Based on the 2010 Impreza WRX, the Limited Edition adds a leather interior, moonroof and SIRIUS Satellite Radio over the already well equipped WRX Premium. Wow, it looks like Subaru is finally giving their customers what they want, if scandinavian flicks and embarrassing cars more than three times as expensive at the track then you can have your all out Special Edition STI and if you just want to have a smile on your face every time you get out of your Impreza and also relax in leather, then this Limited Edition WRX is for you.

The Rawsche was rebuilt via a live webcam on vbraw.com.au at the end of 2009, and was recently given away to one lucky viewer who best displayed their allegiance to the Raw cause by throwing one heck of a kegger. Everything from the modern headlamps sourced from a 993 to the classic grill over the flat six from an old 356 is pure Porsche.

Ferrari CEO confirms: 458 Spider, 599 Hybrid, 599 GTO and a new Enzo

When Jean Todt relinquished his role as CEO of Ferrari last year, the man who most claim to be driving force behind the Italian super car builder’s engineering efforts, Amedeo Felisa, took over the reigns of the prancing horse. During the opening of a new Maserati-Ferrari showroom in Sydney, Australia, the current Chief Executive Officer offered up a little insight into the Maranello based sports car builder’s future. Plans that include a 458 Spider, a 599 hybrid concept that will be on display in Geneva next month as well as an even more powerful light weight GTO variant of the V12 powered GT car and a new Enzo super car.

According to Mr. Felisa: "We will present the new concept of the hybrid at Geneva. It will be based on the 599, but that doesn’t mean it will debut on that model,...We have a plan to introduce on our cars new technology that will reduce consumption and emissions,...The next step is to apply the technology on Ferrari cars." An approach that the Scuderia gained some experience with the F60, regardless of the fact that the FIA has banned the hybrid like Kinetic Energy Recovery System from Formula One competition in 2010.

We drive the 2011 Nissan LEAF, kind of

While Chevrolet is still setting the stage for the future of battery powered vehicles with the Volt, the Japanese automaker Nissan has been perfecting the art of the electric car for over 60 years now and their all new LEAF BEV is just about ready to roll off the assembly line in order to become the first mass market affordable electric car. As part of the Nissan LEAF Zero Emission Tour, the hamburger brand brought their Aqua globe show car from Detroit all the way down to Orlando where we got a chance to get up close and personal with it and a ride behind the wheel of the user friendly test mule that features all of the parts that make it work. Nissan has been investing heavily in the advancement of lithium ion technology ever since they teamed up with NEC to produce revolutionary hybrid battery packs that produce nearly twice the energy density compared to traditional units which mean they will last longer with a much more potent charge that have powered everything from fictional animatronics dinosaurs in Jurassic Park to texting teenager’s cell phones in Japan’s Shibuya district.

The LEAF is about as green as a new car can get, not only does it lack a tailpipe to emit harmful emissions, but the seats were made from recycled plastic bottles and even the tire supplier was chosen because of their diminutive carbon footprint. Despite being an electric car with a compact electric motor in place of an internal combustion engine under the hood, Nissan has chosen to keep with the traditional two box layout, albeit quite curvaceous and a bit wide in the back. Nissan chosen to set the LEAF apart from the rest of the lineup with a variety of blue anodized emblems and Zero emissions logos. The LEAF offers room for five and lots of cargo thanks to the ultra low shelf in the trunk, and even fully loaded, the additional weight won’t compromise the LEAF’s range. Speaking of distances, Nissan expects that their new electric vehicle will be able to travel up to 100 miles between charges, more than enough for the average daily commute, and reach a 90 MPH top speed, making it more than adequate for highway use.

Be careful what you post on the YouTube, St. Louis exotic car employee nailed for doing 150 MPH in an LP 670-4 SV

There are plenty of people guilty of posting some pretty stupid things on YouTube, however this one takes the cake. Apparently a pair of salesmen at a St. Louis exotic car dealership wanting to be more like Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond than a couple of intelligent employees posted a few of their high speed antics behind the wheel of a few super cars, like the ultra exotic Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 SV, on the internet showing the world how they deliberately disobeyed the speed limit on public roads with traffic all around them.

It was kind of funny how the St. Louis FOX afiliate made such a big deal about the driver doing 150 MPH in the "slow lane," the way we figure, doing those kinds of speeds outside of the Autobahn is a bad idea no matter which lane you’re in. Hopefully the lesson to be learned is this; if you are going to do something as stupid as this and share it with the entire world on the internet, you might as well be smart enough to take a few precautions not to incriminate yourself. Steps like not showing your face on camera or the place where you work, even blanking out the license plate. However some people just aren’t that bright, and it is thanks to those individuals that we can all feel a little smarter.

The fifth generation Legacy has undergone a complete restyling for 2010 and our Azurite Blue Pearl 2.5 GT features a bold new design that features a larger one bar grill and a set of Subaru’s new hawk eye headlamps. On the outside, aside from the larger 18 inch wheels, the only thing that gives away the GT as a performance model is the functional hood scoop feeding fresh air across the turbocharged Legacy’s intercooler. The 2.5 GT wears the same bulging fenders as the rest of the lineup as well as their signature side skirts that jut out more than down, giving the Legacy a very wide and stable stance. The 2010 Legacy is a nod at the future of automobile design with its sweptback windshield and short trunk overhang that is more aerodynamic than the traditional three box shape.

Subaru considers their products to be premium automobiles, and it shows on the inside. Our Limited trim Legacy came with a very attractive leather wrapped steering wheel as well as supple seats and a dash adorned with sophisticated wood trim that carries over into the door cards. The 2010 Legacy has been completely redesigned in the interest of a roomier interior and the new car is the most spacious and luxurious Subaru sedan to date. Being the sportiest member of the Legacy lineup, the 2.5 GT is powered by a turbocharged version of Subaru’s 2.5 Liter flat four making 265 HP mated to a six speed manual gearbox and is good for a 0 to 60 MPH sprint of only 5.9 seconds.

Legacy fans will be glad to know that Subaru is taking the car road racing in the Japanese Super GT series as a GT300 race car competitor, and once you have a look at the flared four door, you will never look at the new Legacy the same way again. Starting a just under $30,000 our Limited model benefited from a $3,000 power moonroof and navigation system that brought our 2.5 GT’s asking price up to $34,146; not a bad price to pay for so much all wheel drive machine.

2010 Lotus Elise Club Racer

Lotus Australia has just received an addition to their lineup fresh off the heels of delivering their first truly all new car in years, the Evora, and the release of a hard core track tuned Lotus Exige Cup, the lightweight English sports car builder has just revealed another version of their compact thrill machine. The Lotus Elise Club Racer is a very simple and straightforward sports car that borrows a few shades of paint from Colin Chapman’s personal pallet from the 1960s, colors like Elite Yellow, Carbon Grey, Sky Blue and Old English White.

According to the Director of Lotus Cars, Luke Bennett, "Special Editions of the award winning Elise have always proved popular with our customers around the world, and I expect the Elise Club Racer to be no different. We have taken colour schemes from our past, used on the Elite and Elan in the 1960s and cleverly brought them up to date with a modern feel to the interior. The whole design package is modern with a classic twist, which of course matches the peerless ride and handling of a Lotus and the convertible experience of the Elise perfectly."

Called the Elise Club Racer, the new lightweight English sports car is based on the 134 HP version of the Lotus Elise S and is scheduled to arrive in showrooms on September 15th and go on sale for around $40,000. The car makes use of silver and black highlights in the interior as well as an anthracite anodized gear knob and handbrake with the Club Racer "CR" logo embroidered everywhere. The Lotus engineers even saw fit to incorporate a smaller diameter steering wheel and a set of lightweight six spoke alloys for that extra sporty look and feel. The Elise Club Racer will make its official debut in February 2010 and will be priced at $72,990.

Is Chrysler cooking up a new 300?

Is Chrysler cooking up a new 300?

While perusing the internet we recently came across a patent that had been issued last September to the Chrysler corporation for the "ornamental design for an automobile body." While the document gives no insight as to what is going on beneath the proposed sheet metal, it does grant the American automaker the exclusive rights to produce a vehicle that features each of these design characteristics. The only question that remains is, what will it be used for? It was back in 2005 when Dodge brought back the Chrysler 300 with a new set of bold body lines built atop a promising rear wheel drive platform, so after five years of seeing the same old sedan, is it time for the car builder to freshen up the looks of their popular full size four door? We think so, and this design concept might just be what they have in mind.

At first the sketches reminded us of the European Opel Insignia with its swept back front end and blistered arches housing a set of split seven spoke rims, but after studying the design a little closer we noticed the classic Chrysler grill as well as the C shaped headlights and tail pipes poking through the rear bumper as well as the unmistakable emblem on the back of the trunk. After all this is the slippery shape of cars to come, with hood that seamlessly blends in with the raked windshield leading into fast back profile with a short trunk overhang for improved aerodynamics. However it was the extremely elevated belt line that made us think 300.

Let us know what you think in the comment box below.

Apparently the blue oval is preparing an even hotter version of their hot hatch called the RS Clubsport, as well as an all new RS model based on the next generation Ford Focus that was unveiled in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show.

The future RS Clubsport will be limited to only 500 units and should start showing up in dealer’s showrooms by the end of this year. The car will feature an even more powerful version of the turbocharged 2.5 Liter five cylinder cranking out a total of 350 HP and will be able to sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in only 5 seconds and aside from the upgraded power plant, the RS Clubsport will also offer a stiffer, lower suspension and stickier tires for improved handling and a set of lightweight racing buckets to keep the occupants in place as well as an eye catching paintjob.

As great as a Clubsport model might sound, the big news is about the next generation RS. That is because the new car will feature a revolutionary hybrid power train system made up of a 2.0 Liter EcoBoost turbocharged direct injected engine combined with an electrically driven motor. The high performance hybrid drive train will increase the RS’s maximum output all the way up to 300 HP and bring the car’s 0 to 60 MPH sprint time down to five seconds flat while its top speed will be raised to 155 MPH.

75 years of Jaguar

75 years of Jaguar

It was in the year 1922 when Sir William Lyons founded the Swallow Sidecar Company, a group that started out producing sidecars for motorcycles, however in 1935 the SS Jaguar name made its way onto a 2.5 Liter saloon. Then in 1945, the Jaguar nameplate was bestowed upon everything that the company made after the Germans made the SS moniker quite unpopular during the second World War, thus making the SS 100 model the world’s first official Jaguar automobile.

According to Mike O’Driscoll, Jaguar Car’s current Managing Director, "In 2010 we celebrate our past, and 75 years of designing and building cars that celebrate the art of automobile making. We’re also celebrating the promise of the future, and the introduction of the all-new XJ. In just three years we’ve completely revitalized the Jaguar line-up with the launch of three beautiful fast cars". Since then Jaguar has had a hand in everything from sports car racing with the classic finned D-Type all the way up to a proper Formula One program with current world champion Jensen Button behind the wheel. Playboys fondly remember the old XKE, E-Type, and super car fans continue to lust after the ground breaking XJ220, known for achieving a miraculous 220 MPH top speed. Even today Jaguar is still turning heads with models like their super sport sedan XF-R and the epitome of luxury, the 2010 Jaguar XJ.

New facelift 2011 VW Eos rendered

New facelift 2011 VW Eos rendered

We already knew that the Volkswagen Eos was going to be getting GTI power, but now it looks like the people’s automaker could be upgrading the bubbly hard top convertible’s looks along the lines of the New Compact Coupe.

When VW introduced the Eos, named after the mythological Greek goddess of dawn and wind, back in 2006 the German design team was looking for a replacement for the fun loving Golf based drop top Cabrio. So when the new Eos first debuted as the Concept C it was given a friendly face filled with warm round features to continue what the former cabriolet had started. This rendering takes the unique retractable hard top Volkswagen in an all new aggressive direction inspired by the Compact Coupe and the sixth generation GTI.

When VW introduces a new convertible, it traditionally consists of a new front clip, from the front fenders forward, being grafted onto the existing model featuring updated lighting and a few new design cues. While this rendering follows the cost effective production convertible trend, it also adds a few touches from its luxury car cousins at Audi. So aside from the sleek LED headlamps framed by a pair of sharp points that continued the edges of the hood extending down on either side of the grill, larger openings in the front bumper and pronounced lip spoiler; this updated Eos incorporates the four ring automaker’s tornado line running along the car’s belt line as well as a set of slick triple spoke rollers.

Lexus SC rendered by avarvarii

While the first SC is not even worth mentioning (at least not in terms of design) the second one proved to be a pretty strong player. It was the first luxury cabriolet with 2 + 2 seats and got to be known all over the world due to various rap clips . The Lexus design changed dramatically in 2005, when the beta "L-finesse" produced the magnificent second IS. The 2007 LS further pointed that the IS was no accident and Toyotas can also look stunning. We can now dare and dream at the third generation SC that could bring us the rough-sporty side of the "L-finesse" philosophy. . An increased wheelbase should be a must on the new car, that way it can have descent rear room, and a real chance against the competition.

With a low, wide stance and large wheels this could be the ultimate hot hatch, especially if we consider that Infinitis are generally well powered and well equipped.
