2017 Arcadia SHERPA
SHERPA is a forward thinking design yachtby Sulthoni, on
SHERPA is a “forward thinking design yacht” with an overall length of 17,70m and a width/beam of 5,60m, even more marked by the concept of "open space" of the aft cockpit to which Arcadia has accustomed us since its debut. A compact sizeable to confirm all of the key factors of bigger yachts available in the range of the yard (internal/external areas and volumes, high-performance efficient hull, minimalist and neat interiors). SHERPA can be perfectly compared to much larger boats (65 ft) for her LWL (16,10m) and beam (5,60m).
The efficient length/width ratio given by the specific NPL hull is another factor that contributes to the unbelievable volumes of the yacht, and, at the same time, it’s certainly a winning factor for potential customers oriented towards yachts of this size.
As usual, Guida Design has been responsible for the design and naval architecture of this innovative model, in collaboration with the technical department of Arcadia Yachts.
SHERPA is the natural evolution of Arcadia fleet towards reduced size boats. This amazing small yacht manages to keep integral in only 58 feet the vision and features that make each Arcadia yacht different from the rest of its competitors, having also given to the volumes on board a new concept of distribution, aimed at putting forth areas more used by guests, such as the stern cockpit, the living area, and cabins.

Flexibility and Lay-Out
It offers two different superstructure options. Open deck, definitely preferred in the Mediterranean market, and Salon deck, for tropical zones or those ones very cold, which make greater use of easily air-conditioning areas.
In the development of Sherpa, one of the major goals has been the achievement of maximum flexibility. The shipyard offers a variety of arrangements depending on the use, such as day cruiser, shadow boats, supply vessels for mega-yachts, mini yacht in support to villas overlooking the sea, or simply a day-boat, a fisherman, etc. It offers two different superstructure options. Open deck, definitely preferred in the Mediterranean market, and Salon deck, for tropical zones or those ones very cold, which make greater use of easily air-conditioning areas.
SHERPA also offers many layout options: they have available one-, two-, or three-cabin models.
SHERPA also lends as a support boat to waterfront villas or mega-yachts, being at the same time an entertaining "party-boat," able to accommodate a surprising number of guests.
The Open version, with the main deck used mostly as the aft cockpit, offers an area of over 40 square meters completely free, a huge terrace overlooking the sea that can be arranged to the owner’s liking with sunbathing areas, sofas, armchairs, tables, furniture and so on, according to one’s needs of life on board. SHERPA also lends as a support boat to waterfront villas or mega-yachts, being at the same time an entertaining "party-boat," able to accommodate a surprising number of guests. If the owner wishes a dayboat, this type of use would suggest the specific Open deck configuration with just one cabin for the owner. Instead, a use for cruises and mini-cruises by an owner with a young family would see the boat internally arranged according to a layout with 2/3 cabins.
• Version with one cabin (owner suites)
Sherpa comes with a large owner’s suite, which includes a living room/lounge zone modular thanks to sliding panels that allow the separation into different areas. It’s also equipped with a large closet and a bathroom with a full beam with a beautiful shower.
• Version with two cabins
In this version, in addition to the large owner’s suite equipped with a significant wardrobe and a full beam bathroom with wonderful shower. The second cabin, with two comfortable beds and a practical guest bathroom with a separate shower, consistently offers 2m height. This bathroom has an external access to the second cabin to allow for its use as day-head for guest during the day.
• Version with three cabins
The version with three cabins of the new Arcadia model proposes the owner’s double cabin bow, with large bathroom and separate shower. The two guest cabins offer a consistent height of 2m and have a shared bathroom accessible from the hallway. Sherpa offers the chance to account for 1 cabin for a possible sailor.
• For the Asian market or Tropical climates
Sherpa has also been studied for the Asian market. In the Salon Deck version, it provides a solution to the great demand of shaded spaces. The veranda can be, in a special version, further stretched. For a use in tropical climates, the Cabin Deck version offers extensive use of air-conditioning not only in the deck area but also in the Flying Bridge/Lounge, extremely flexible thanks to an intelligent use of perimeter windows with electric/power folding.
An Innovative and Convertible Sports Flying Bridge
Just like in cars, the upper deck of SHERPA becomes "convertible."
Arcadia SHERPA introduces a new concept of sports flying-bridge - "Easy-to-close" - convertible into a closed platform, completely protected by the side windows that can be raised up to meet the hardtop. Just like in cars, the upper deck of SHERPA becomes "convertible." The entire upper deck area, being equipped with air-conditioning, becomes much more flexible and usable in all weather conditions, in very hot climates or in bad weather - or left open - as with any traditional flying bridge.
SHERPA is recognized by an unexpected storage space of 140 square meters - 247 cubic feet - below the main deck.
In addition to the flexible layout, SHERPA is recognized by an unexpected storage space of 140 square meters - 247 cubic feet - below the main deck. The flush deck solution for the main deck area allows stowing everything under the main deck and letting the whole bridge free and easily equipped for the most different purposes. This stowage space, with a height of 125 centimeters, has direct access via a large hydraulic hatch, which, through a specifically designed crane, allows for moving optional toys such as a tender and jet skis. The cabinets can be easily fitted to various uses, such as traditional stowage room for storing equipment, fishing and diving gears, water-sports equipment (Kitesurfing, windsurfing, kayaking), or for the optional positioning of the see-keeper stabilizer in its central part. These specific key features have contributed to the naming of this yacht, name that comes from the legendary Himalayan guides fit to carry extraordinary loads: SHERPA.
NPL Hull and Performance
The NPL hull is a special hull that takes its name from the National Physical Laboratory of England where tests were performed to determine its shape for the best ratio between length and width in terms of hydrodynamic efficiency.
SHERPA can be used both for day cruising and for long distances (ocean fishing ...). Thanks to the high-performing semi-planning NPL hull - offering significantly reduced consumption - together with the additional tank compartment - Sherpa guarantees high cruising capacity typical of a "long-range". The NPL hull is a special hull that takes its name from the National Physical Laboratory of England where tests were performed to determine its shape for the best ratio between length and width in terms of hydrodynamic efficiency. This advanced hull, together with the light superstructure, allows for very satisfactory performance with low-power engines.
The new Arcadia SHERPA - with Volvo Penta IPS 600 engines – can reach a maximum speed of about 20 knots and offers a cruising speed of 17 knots. The Volvo IPS engines deliver a proven reliability and outstanding maneuverability. Navigation is also favored by a low use of the generator, advantaged by the use of electric power (4kW) generated by the solar panels covering almost the entire superstructure.
Clean Energy From Solar Panels
This advanced and environmental-friendly system provides enough energy (4kW) to power many equipments and on-board systems.
The latest generation of solar cells is integrated between the outer surface and the inner one of doubleglazing units, within which the covering panels are mounted on most of the superstructure. This advanced and environmental-friendly system provides enough energy (4kW) to power many equipments and on-board systems - such as refrigerators, water circulation, toilets, lights, A/V, electronic instruments - and to recharge batteries.
Each panel contains a special gas called Krypton, which guarantees a high thermo-insulating coefficient, up to 18 ° of thermal cooling between inside and outside temperatures, the equivalent of a brick wall of about 20 cm.
Containment of Operating Costs
The modest engine power, the particular NPL hull and its lightweight all go together with the power produced by the solar panels.
The added value of "green + efficiency factors" - typical "core values" of all Arcadia models - takes on Sherpa a substantial value, confirming also the attention to the containment of running costs. The benefits are even more evident in relation to the on-board energy requirements, which is almost fully covered and satisfied by the 4kw generated by the solar panels. The modest engine power, the particular NPL hull and its lightweight all go together with the power produced by the solar panels and make Sherpa a boat with significantly reduced operating costs.
