New for 2019, the GP1800R ride is even better with the addition of a new high-performance top-loader intake grate and race-designed ride plate. The new intake grate features a foil that feeds water to the top end of the impeller to improve prop traction and keep the pump hooked up to maintain maximum thrust when turning, and in rough water. It also creates more downforce to keep the GP1800R planted in the water and stable when turning.

The new race designed ride plate is longer to reduce bow rise when accelerating quickly. The planning surface is angled slightly for just the right amount of rocker to give the GP1800R the right riding attitude for optimum top speed. Also, the edges of the planning surface help the GP1800R track straighter at higher speeds.

What they say

“This boat has so much power it might intimidate operators who are not experienced and ready for a challenge. The GP1800R is probably best suited for the veteran rider who wants to hone his or her racing skills or just reach the next level of performance riding.

On the other hand, all that power will come in handy for pulling skiers and other towed devices. Because it can handle three people, the GP1800R has “family” written all over it, in spite of its awesome power and agility.”

“From the outside, the Darth Vader-esque black-and-red livery might be enough to lure you into the dealership, but there’s much more to this "R" edition than you might know! For 2019, Yamaha borrowed heavily from the performance aftermarket and provided the GP1800R with an all-new top loader intake grate for improved acceleration and reduced cavitation. There’s also a redesigned ride plate that lifts the bow at speed while improving traction. Heck, Yamaha even went in and reinforced the top of the pump tunnel with more material and big ol’ brackets for you hard core performance tuners looking to push your new Yamaha well past its intended top speed (69.4mph was our best top speed). And while Yamaha is keeping the GP1800R mostly frills-free, there are a few great aesthetic touches that gives the newly priced $14,199 GP1800R some value.”
