Fundamentally different compared with the SV or any other Aventador

I shared five awesome facts about the latest Lamborghini Aventador SVJ even before the Italians released the car in full. Now they have released it in full during Monterey Car Week at “The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.” You can follow our coverage here. Now released with details in full, I can honor you with five more astounding facts about the latest Aventador SVJ. You will learn here what makes this car that astounding and what made it the fastest production car to ever lap the Nurburgring. Yup, you read that right. The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is the fastest production car to ever appear at the Nurburgring. It is a brute, without the suit.

Braking

The first amazing fact is that the Lamborghini Aventador SVJgo from 62 mph to zero in only 98 feet and five inches.

The first amazing fact is that the Lamborghini Aventador SVJgo from 62 mph to zero in only 98 feet and five inches. To put that into perspective, the Porsche 911 GT3 (991) will do the same job in a bit over 100 feet (according to Auto Motor und Sport). The thing is that the Aventador SVJ, with its dry weight of 3,362 lbs isn’t a lightweight car. In fact, despite all the light saving measures, this V-12 powered monster has some serious heft to it. Nevertheless, to achieve such astounding braking results, Lamborghini had to put together and arrange a number of important pieces. First off, Lambo reached out to Pirelli the specially developed P Zero Corsa tires for added grip and, consequently, better braking performance.

The second novelty is the use of the ALA 2.0 system when braking. Closing all the flaps and making the car as drag resistant as possible, the ALA 2.0 system further helps with braking from the high-speed. Lamborghini highlights the use of the four-wheel steering system further helping with the Aventador SVJ braking. The system helps the most in conditions when heavy braking and cornering are taking place at once. Like with hard high-speed turning. This braking performance was one of the instrumental factors in making the SVJ the fastest production car on the Nurburgring.

However, the most important piece of the braking system is the actual brakes. In this case, massive carbon ceramic discs behind the new wheels provide stopping power so huge it can actually bring a car as big as this to a whole stop in about 30 meters (98 feet). If you are looking for a bit more edge, then throw in the optional street-legal Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires. I’d like to know if the Aventador SVJ made that record run on P Zeros or P Zero Trofeo Rs.

Aerodynamics

The Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva 2.0 debuted on the new car granting the Aventador SVJ with “aerodynamic supremacy” unlike any other car on earth

While I did say a word or two about Lamborghini’s new aerodynamic system, I think this piece of mechanical and aerodynamic art deserves a few more.

The Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva 2.0 debuted on the new car granting the Aventador SVJ with “aerodynamic supremacy” unlike any other car on earth. Save for the Huracan Performante (and save a bit for the latest DBS Superleggera that has an awesome aero system).

The thing is that Lamborghini formed an aero system with a series of flaps that can open or close, directly affecting the aerodynamic efficiency of the car. The system works thanks to electronic actuators that open or close flaps affecting the generation of the downforce and actual downforce balance between the front, rear, right, and left sides of the car. The ALA 2.0, when working in harmony with the Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Attiva 2.0 can go from zero downforce to 100 percent downforce in less than 500 milliseconds. All this by smartly moving the flaps, the splitters, and the rear wing.

Apart from such magical capabilities, the revised exterior and additional body-kit parts actually improve the overall downforce of the Aventador SVJ over the SV by 40 percent at the front axle and by 40 percent at the rear. Quite amazing considering the Aventador SV actually had fantastic downforce itself.

Suspension

Lambo actually did improve anti-roll stiffness by 50 percent.

To keep the car planted and capable of astonishing track performance, Lambo had to rework the suspension. According to their PR, they’ve focused on a number of different sections and carefully reworked them to utilize four-wheel steering, four-wheel drive, and all that added aero capability in the best way possible.

Reading through the press release, one feels like an aftermarket tuning company actually tuned up the SV, but the thing is that Lambo actually did improve anti-roll stiffness by 50 percent. A welcomed improvement considering that much more downforce acts on the Aventador SVJ than on any other Aventador that came before. Because of this, the dampers are 15 percent stiffer, and the LMS systemhas been reprogramed. All in the name of utilizing added hardware and solutions.

Rear-wheel steering has been reworked as well. It is a bit faster and helps a lot with the cornering. As a final touch, Lamborghini worked on the steering improving precision and thanks to more downforce and better rear wheel steering, this enabled the Italians to recalibrate the AWD system which now can send 3 percent more torque to the rear.

Performance

With 759 horsepower and 513 pound-feet of torque, the Aventador SVJ has a throttle response so brutal it will launch the massive supercar to 62 mph in 2.8 seconds.

The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is the most extreme expression of the Lamborghini V-12 ideology. It is fast. Really, really fast.

The engine powering it is much the same as in the limited edition Centenario. With 759 horsepower and 513 pound-feet of torque, all sent to four wheels; the latest, greatest Aventador has a throttle response so brutal it will launch the massive supercar to 62 mph in 2.8 seconds. It will continue to 124 mph 5.8 seconds later, and top speed will be reached at 217 mph. I am sure it could do even more.

With incredible brakes, amazing aerodynamics, and astonishing suspension, the most powerful Aventador of all time became the fastest production car of all time to hit the ‘Ring. I am quite sure it would be the fastest production car on any other track in the world as well.

Back in Germany, the camouflaged Aventador SVJ managed to lap the Nurburgring in 6:44.97.

Incredible.

Price

The Aventador SVJ is available in the U.S. for a price of $517,700

“The Aventador SVJ is an innovative car and represents the absolute pinnacle of our super sports car product range,” said Automobili Lamborghini Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Stefano Domenicali. “The challenge to Lamborghini designers and engineers was to improve the purest essence of the Lamborghini super sports car, drawing on every inspiration from a spaceship to a jet fighter: all the most exceptional examples of super-fast, super-athletic, aerodynamic superiority. The Aventador SVJ takes another step into the future, shaping the potential for super sports car development.”

This comment is certainly enough to show you that I am not writing here about a cheap Lambo. Domenicali mentioned jet fighters, spaceships, and the future in describing the Aventador SVJ. No wonder the car is available in the U.S. for a price of $517,700. No, you did not read that wrong.

At the Quail, Lamborghini unveiled two versions of the car - the Aventador SVJ and the Aventador SVJ 63. The latter is a special edition that will be produced in only in 63 units. It is basically an homage to 1963, the year when Ferruccio Lamborghini actually founded the company and unveiled the Miura. This one is even more expensive than the Aventador SVJ which will be produced in 900 units.

Conclusion

The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is probably the last Lamborghini powered by a standalone, V-12 engine. As we learned before, the Italians (the Germans actually, but it doesn’t matter) should support the next V-12 supercar with an electric motor that will help turn it into an exceptional hypercar.
