Hoonigan Names New Female Racer For Fiat 124 Spider Abarth Rally Car
For the past few months, Hoonigan and Fiat have conducted a talent search to find the “Next Female Hoonigan” racer. Today, it was announced that the search was over and a winner has been found. Taking the title is Sara Price, a 24-year-old hot shoe hailing from Canyon Lake in Southern California. Price started in motocross racing before taking on trophy trucks and side-by-side racers, and will bring that experience to rally racing in the Hoonigan Fiat 124 competition machine.
Price managed to secure her ride by beating five other finalists in a three-month long competition, which started with more than 150 individual entries from across the nation. To take the win, Price first had to take a road trip to the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Phoenix, Arizona, before continuing on to the Gridlife Music & Motorsports festival at Gingerman Raceway in South Haven Michigan. Eventually, Price showed she had what it took to be the next Hoonigan racer, and subsequently took the wheel of a 400-horsepower turbocharged Fiat 124 at the Mt. Washington hillclimb event in New Hampshire. Specs on the car include a six-speed pneumatic sequential transmission and anti-lag system, which is the right combo when tackling the 7.4 miles and 4,500 feet of elevation change at the hillclimb. 2016 Abarth 124 Rally
As soon as the Miata-based Fiat 124 Spider was unveiled in 2015, rumors that the Italians are also planning to develop a rally-spec model surfaced the Interwebz. Although Fiat declined to confirm that such a model is in the works, the race-prepped car made a surprise debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, alongside the beefed-up 124 Abarth. It’s called the Abarth 124 Rally, and much like the standard 124 Spider, it’s a modern iteration of the Fiat’s original roadster.
Only a prototype for now, the 124 Rally will be finalized in time for the 2017 season. Fiat confirmed that the coupe will be homologated for the FIA R-GT, a category created specifically for GT cars. In 2015, the R-GT Cup was contested by only four drivers, all using 996- and 997-generation Porsche 911 GT3s. There’s no word if other makers plan to join the sport, but the 124 Rally should make things significantly more interesting.
A final version will be unveiled by the end of the year with official testing to commence in the coming months. Until that happens, let’s have a closer look at the prototype that revives the 124 Rally after exactly four decades since its last official race.

Shortly after Fiat unveiled the Miata-based 124 Spider, rumors that Abarth might build a rally-spec version surfaced the Interwebz. Reports claimed that the FIA was planning to introduce a new sports car category for the World Rally Championship, which would allow vehicles the size of the 124 to take part in the series. Though neither Abarth nor the FIA confirmed the rumor, we went ahead and created a rendering and a speculative review about the Abarth 124 WRC, which, according to current WRC regulations, would have to be a coupe.
Then it occurred to me that if Abarth will indeed build a race-spec, coupe version of the 124, it could also develop a road-going variant. With so many Miata fans clamoring for a full-fledged coupe, I’m sure such a model would be pretty popular with MX-5 enthusiasts despite having a different exterior design and an Abarth badge on its nose. Not to mention that unless Fiat has some sort of agreement with Mazda that prevents it from building different body styles, an Abarth 124 Coupe would be doable with the performance division having the necessary experience from the rally car.
Now you might ask why an Abarth and not a Fiat? Well, turning the Spider into a mass-produced coupe would require a hefty investment and given the fact that FCA isn’t doing quite well financially, Sergio Marchionne wouldn’t approve such a project. Under Abarth, however, the 124 Coupe could be developed as a coach-built vehicle and produced in a limited run and for a more exotic price tag. This would be similar to what Abarth did with the original 124 Spider in the early 1970s, when the 124 Rally had to be homologated for the World Rally Championship.

It hasn’t been long since Fiat unveiled the 124 Spider, a stylish roadster based on the fourth-generation Mazda MX-5. Now, word has it that the Italians are also planning a racing version for the World Rally Championship. If this proves to be true, the modern-day 124 Spider will follow in the exact footsteps of its predecessor, which also spawned a rally car, despite Fiat not offering a production coupe model. But, as exciting as it may sound, Abarth’s return to rallying is still a rumor as of December 2015.
It’s not because the Italian brand wouldn’t be able to turn the roadster into a tarmac-eating machine. The main problem is that a WRC-spec 124 Abarth currently has no class to race in, as the World Rally Championship has become a competition for superminis only.
In November 2015, Piston Heads reported — quoting sources close to Abarth — that the FIA is considering a new sports car category for the WRC. The class will be designed "to restore some petrolhead credibility to the series" and will allow larger vehicles, such as the Fiat 124 Spider, to race. For the uninitiated, WRC used to allow a wider range of cars in the 1970s and 1980s, from the Porsche 911 to the significantly larger, four-door Audi 200 Quattro.
We won’t find out whether FIA will indeed create a new class anytime soon, but the thought that Abarth might return to rallying is exciting to say the least. With that in mind, we decided to create a rendering of the Abarth 124 WRC and talk about as to what it might bring to the table. Find out more in my speculative review below.

Fiat and Yamaha normally have little common other than the fact that they’re considered giants in their respective fields. One is an Italian automaker that owns Ferrari while the other is a Japanese motorcycle company that’s considered one of the best in the world. But the two companies actually have a long history of working together, especially when it comes to MotoGP. In fact, Fiat-owned Abarth and Yamaha have a current two-year deal in place that makes Abarth an official sponsor of the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team, as well as its official car supplier for the 2015 and 2016 MotoGP seasons. Thanks to the partnership between these two brands, special edition models like the Abarth 595 Yamaha Factory Racing Edition can find a spot at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The Abarth 595 Yamaha Factory Racing Edition is the latest in a series of special edition Abarths that have been made for Yamaha. On September 11, 2015, Movistar Yamaha was given three Abarth 695 biposto Yamaha Factory Racing Edition vehicles during a ceremony at Abarth’s headquarters in Turin, Italy. The 695 isn’t expected to go on sale to the public, but the 595 Yamaha Factory Racing Edition is expected to hit dealerships in small quantities.
l hope that Abarth sends the 595 Yamaha Factory Racing Edition to dealerships sooner than later. For now, though, the special edition 595 is at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show as a visual reminder that Abarth and Yamaha have a solid relationship that’s built on the pursuit of motor racing success.

The Abarth Scorpione is different from the Abarth cars that we know today, with the first clue to this being right in the name. Modern Abarths aren’t branded exclusively as Abarths, but rather as a trim/sub-brand for Fiat. The Scorpione is indeed the last car developed entirely by Abarth, although there are still plenty of Fiat parts to be found in it. The car is a reworked tuner version of the Lombardi Grand Prix, itself a heavily reworked version of the Fiat 850. Making the Scorpione doubly tuned, if that’s a thing. This one was sold to be a race car, but was modified once again by its second owner, who made some motorsport-specific changes to the car.
The car was first developed as a Lombardi for 1968, with the Abarth model following shortly thereafter. The Lombardi would last until 1972, but when Fiat bought out all of Abarth in 1971, one of the first things it did was kill off the Scorpione. So with as rare as the Grand Prix is, the Scorpione is even rarer. But the one you see here, from 1969, is a unique version of the car, and quite possibly the most powerful example in existence.

In the latest episode of Jay Leno’s Garage, Robert Tallini from "Road Race Sports" brought a pair of highly updated 500 Abarth racecars for Leno to test.
According to Tallini, the black 500 Abarth racer pushes out about 250 horsepower, thanks to a new turbo, intake, exhaust and other mods. Along with the engine modifications the two cars also offer a roll cages and some carbon-fiber body work that transform them into real race cars. The best part is that both of the Abarth racers are also street legal.
The stock Abarth 500 is powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that delivers a total of 160 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. With this amount of power, the Abarth 500 can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in about 7 seconds and up to a top speed of 129 mph.

The Fiat 500 Abarth is back for 2014 with new colors, new wheels and a more comfortable passenger seat design. The 500C cabrio was new with Abarth trim in Spring of 2013, and is expected to be the volume leader for 2014 with almost no performance or interior room downsides versus the coupe.
These cute Fiat 500 twins are looking just as fresh and intimidating as always versus the hum-drum base-engine 500 models, and the rest of the econo-car hatchback market in the U.S. These are two cars for people who have chosen the ultra-nimble hot hatchback route, plus they offer up both driving thrills and the feeling of driving a classic Italian racing brand.
While the regular 500 undercuts the Mini Cooper significantly on price, the $6,000 Abarth premium makes life more challenging versus the hottest Mini performance cars. Even so, the Mini’s dated styling means the trendiest shoppers have long since moved on to something more current.
The 500 Abarth also undercuts the equivalent Mini Cooper S engine on price, but moves this tiny machine past $26,000 for the Abarth 500C - which is uncomfortably close to the Subaru BRZ and other performance cars.
The arrival of the American-spec Ford Fiesta ST certainly complicates the theoretical comparison test for these performance supermini’s.
Logic is typically not the most critical factor in this realm of the new car segment, and the 500 Abarth nails the less-concrete buying criteria like passion, brand image and performance zest.

Abarth unveiled the 595 back in 1960s and since the model written a history full of record broken and victories. Now, 50 years later, the company prepares to celebrate the model’s 50th anniversary with the unveiling of the special edition 595 50th Anniversary. The model will be unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and will be limited to only 299 units.
As no surprise, the new 595 50 Anniversary model is a modern interpretation of the original 595. It features a modern reinterpretation of the original color, the historical Abarth logos and the original "Fiat Abarth 595" graphics. With the new special edition Abarth is also celebrating the brand itself because the next two years represent a decisive step for it.
The new Abarth 5959 50 Anniversary edition will be available for order starting 15 September, exactly 50 years after the presentation of the first 595.

Abarth has prepared for the 2013 Geneva Motor Show a new Heritage collection designed in the spirit of motorsport and the history of Abarth. One of the models included in this collection is the 695 ’Scorpione’ - developed on the heritage of two historic models: Abarth 750 Record Bertone and the A112 or 124 Abarth.
The new collection is part of the company’s new ’fuoriserie’ - a program devoted to customers who want to exclusively customize their cars and combine them with top performance levels.
The new 695 ’Scorpione’ features an “Olio Fiat” livery combined with numerous "695 Scorpione" logos on the exterior and the interior. Under the hood, the model keeps the usual 1.4 16v Turbo T-Jet, which will deliver an impressive 180 horsepower.
Full details on the new Heritage collection will be unveiled during its official debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.
The 2012 Paris Auto Show is still two weeks away, but we have already got information on almost every model that will be displayed at the show. For example, Abarth has announced the launch of a new customization program that will offer clients the opportunity to customize their car down to the smallest detail. The new "Fuori Serie" was inspired by the cars that have written the brand’s history, going from the Fiat 750 Record and 124 Sanremo all the way up to the X19 prototype. All of these cars have one thing in common: they are all record-breaking cars.
The 695 "Fuori Serie" to be displayed in Paris features a very cool "Olio Fiat" livery which appeared first on the Fiat 124 Abarth Rally at the 1976 Montecarlo Rally. Under the hood, Fiat has placed the 1.4 16v Turbo T-Jet which will deliver an impressive 180 HP. Each customer will have the possibility to choose between a range of colors and materials that are not offered in the standard product range. These will range from carbon fiber to sports fabrics, from leather to Alcantara, and from glossy to matte liveries.
Abarth is celebrating the launch of the new high-performance 500 and 595 ranges on the UK market with the launch of a special 595 Turismo edition. The model is priced at £17,725 ($21,798 at current rates) when based on the 500 version and at £19,625 ($24,125 at the current rates) when based on the 500C version.
The new 595 Turismo will be distinguished by Titanium Grey front and rear sports grilles, upgraded front and rear dampers, and dark tinted rear windows. For the interior, the model gets a "Turismo" pack that includes Alutex pedals, footrest and door kick-plates, bespoke floor mats, and machined aluminum fuel and oil filler caps. Leather upholstery and automatic climate control will also be offered as standard equipment, while, as an option, Abarth will provide a very cool set of 17-inch 10-spoke Diamond finish alloy wheels combined with red brake calipers.
The Fiat 595 Abarth Turismo is powered by a turbocharged 1.4 T-Jet engine that delivers a total of 160 HP and mated to either a manual gearbox or with Abarth’s MTA (Manual Transmission Automated) semi-automatic gearbox.

In early 2011, Abarth unveiled the 695 Competizione - the first "street legal" Scorpion racing car. Now, at the 2011 Bologna Motor Show, the company revealed another Competizione model, this time called the 595. The model enters the same segment as the 500 Abarth Turismo, but is dedicated to the more extreme sports enthusiasts.
The Abarth 595 Competizione is painted in a metallic Grigio Record livery combined with 17" titanium-colored alloy wheels whose design was borrowed from Racing, with yellow Brembo brake calipers. There are also 595 and 595 "competizione" logos, both in aluminum. The interior adds "Abarth Corsa by Sabelt" leather and natural leather-colored Alcantara seats with "595" logo embroidered on the integrated headrest. Also, the gear lever knob made of Ergal, kick plate, pedal unit and aluminum running board are all decorated with the Abarth motifs.
Under the hood, there is a 1.4 Turbo T-Jet engine that delivers a total of 160 HP and 169 lbs-ft of torque. This is enough power to sprint the car from 0 to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds and up to a top speed of 131 mph. The engine is mated to a 5-speed MT (Manual Transmission) gearbox - a special elements for the 595 Competizione. As a standard feature Abarth is also offering TTC (Torque Transfer Control) device that improves the transfer of drive torque to the wheels.
Abarthos preparing to further expand its 500 line-up with the addition of the new 500 Abarth Turismo, making its world premiere at the 2011 Bologna Motor Show. The new model combines the sportiness of a standard Abarth 500 with new levels of comfort and personality. The first thing we noticed about the new 500 Turismo is its two-tone livery: a combination of Rosso Officina and Grigio Pista livery with white liner.
The Abarth 500 Turismo will sit on a special set of Gran Turismo inspired titanium-colored 17" alloy wheels and will be distinguished by historic 595 logo in aluminum on the side panel and tailgate.
The interior will combine a sporty black leather steering wheel and an electrically-operated manual Competizione gearbox with controls on the steering wheel. Another special feature is the special "flocking" treatment for the central tunnel and dashboard, as well as a pedal unit, kick plate, and gearbox trim made in Alutex aluminum glass fiber material.
Under the hood, there is a 1.4 Turbo T-Jet engine that delivers a total of 160 HP and 169 lbs-ft of torque. This is enough power to sprint the car from 0 to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds and up to a top speed of 131 mph.
The Abarth 695 "Assetto Corse" launched by Abarth at the 2011 Bologna motor Show continues the tradition started by models like the 695 Tributo Ferrari and the Abarth 695 "Competizione". The difference is that it is an evolution of the Abarth 500 "Assetto Corse", a car that scored huge successes during the past three years of racing.
On the exterior, the new 695 "Assetto Corse" will be distinguished by an aggressive front decorated with a badge bearing the Abarth logo, a broader bumper completed with aerodynamic spoiler and screen-printed grilles. And as this is a track car the aerodynamics are very important so at the rear it has received a winged spoiler, a badge bearing the Abarth logo and a twin exhaust pipe. The package is completed by a new set of 17" light alloy racing wheels enriched with new floating, perforated and self-ventilated front disc brakes and perforated rear disc brakes.
The interior has been designed so that it offers the highest safety levels required by FIA regulations. The car gets a safety roll-bar, racing seat and a racing steering wheel, while the doors have been lightened by using Lexan for the side windows.
Under the hood Abarth has placed a 1368 cm3 turbocharged engine that delivers 205 HP of power.
