AC Cobra is an iconic British sports car that has been around for almost six decades now. Back in the day, Carroll Shelby convinced AC Cars and Ford to join hands and create a sports car that could take on the likes of the Corvettes and the Ferraris on the race track. The car is still quite popular, with even replicas selling quite well.

With changing times, AC Cars has also decided to jump the wagon and electrify this iconic sports car. Moniker’d the AC Cobra Series 4–electric, the company calls it ‘The AC Cobra updated for a new age’. It doesn’t come cheap, though, starting at over $200,000.

Same Iconic Cobra Looks, But With An Electric Powertrain

The Series 4-electric is based on the AC Cobra Mk IV. It will be offered in two trims – 230 and 460. Both these models will be offered in 15 different colors. If you’re looking for something fancier, AC Cars is offering the Cobra Series 4-electric in four special editions and four blacked-out special editions with a chrome delete.

The company hasn’t mentioned how many motors power the Cobra, but has given the power and performance specs. The 4-electric 230 makes 308 horses and 184 pound-feet of continuous torque. It delivers up to 369 pound-feet of torque at peak. The Cobra Series 4-electric 230 can sprint to 62 mph from a standstill in 4.9 seconds.

The 4-electric 460, on the other hand, makes 617 horses and 369 pound-feet of continuous. The peak torque is rated at 738 pound-feet. This model is quicker and takes just 3.9 seconds to sprint to 62 mph from rest. The Cobra 460 weighs 2,733 pounds, whereas the 230 is 110 pounds lighter.

The AC Cobra Series 4-Electric Battery and Range

Both the AC Cobra Series 4-Electric models come with a 54 kWh battery pack. On the 230, the estimated range is 190 miles, and on the 460, it is 160 miles. Being a U.K.-based company, I think these are as per the lenient WLTP cycle. The charging capacity is just 6 kW, which means you’ll have to plug it in and leave it overnight always. It doesn’t seem to support fast charging.

How Much Does The AC Cobra Series-4 Electric Cost?

AC Cars has priced the Cobra Series 4-electric 230 at £148,000 before taxes, which translates to approximately $209,000. The 460 is priced at £168,000 before taxes, which is approximately $237,000. The converted prices are as per the exchange rates at the time of penning this article.

The company noted that the first customer deliveries of the AC Cobra Series 4 Electric are expected in late 2021.
