The all-new Toyota Supra A90 is an aftermarket tuner’s dream, and it hasn’t taken long for the world’s best tuners to build programs for the returning sports car icon. As you know, AC Schnitzer typically specializes in building aftermarket kits for BMW models but, since the Toyota Supra is a BMW at heart, AC Schnitzer is able to show it some love. AC Schnitzer’s program for the sports car is as all-encompassing as it gets. There’s a full line of upgrades to the Supra’s exterior, interior, engine, and a lot of mechanical parts in between. AC Schnitzer hasn’t rolled out the full price list for this new program, but you can bet it won't be cheap.

Exterior

A proper AC Schnitzer tuning program wouldn’t be complete without any aerodynamic upgrades, and for the Toyota Supra, two important bits are worth mentioning. The first aero part is a black-painted front splitter. It’s hard to make out when you see the Supra from a distance, but it’s clearly visible when you see the sports car up close. Less subtle but no less important is the pair of vents on the hood of the Supra. Those aren’t just novelty bits, either. They’re important as they relate to the engine upgrade program that AC Schnitzer also prepared for the Toyota sports car.

It’s a weird visual to see a rear wing sitting on top of a spoiler, but there are aerodynamic benefits to that setup, something that the Supra will also need now that it’s packing more power than it otherwise does.

A new set of wheels is also available, and this comes with the added benefit of more than one option to choose from. There are two wheel options available: the AC1 and AC3 wheels. Both are 20-inch sets and both are available in either forged silver anthracite, forged anthracite, bi-color, and anthracite.

This isn’t surprising in the least bit, in part because AC Schnitzer has never been the type of tuner that creates over-the-top kits for the sake of making them. The tuner specializes in simple yet effective programs that showcase a car’s strengths more than it does make the car look good.

Interior

The tuner isn’t known for creating extensive, model-specific interior upgrades and that holds true for the Toyota Supra. But there are upgrades available, specifically when it comes to the pedal set and footrest of the Toyota sports coupé.

An aluminum pedal set is available for the Supra if you want one. An aluminum footrest is likewise available, as is an aluminum cover and a key holder. And that’s about it. OK, so it’s not as extensive of an upgrade to the Supra’s cabin as some people would want, but it’s not for a lack of trying. Like most of its programs for BMW models, AC Schnitzer is far more concerned with improving a model’s performance characteristics.

The exclusive sports seats, with the two-tone, red-and-black color scheme, are good examples of special add-ons that Toyota can offer. The seats are dressed in fine leather and there are Alcantara parts covering them, too.

Drivetrain

Sitting at the heart of AC Schnitzer’s engine upgrade program is a plug-and-play software kit.

There are no hardware upgrades included in the program.

The German tuner also made it clear that the focus of this specific program revolved around increasing the engine’s torque figures. AC Schnitzer didn’t elaborate with its intention, but it does point to the tuner prioritizing the Supra’s ability to get off the line quicker than giving the six-cylinder engine enough output to sustain high speeds over longer stretches. The tuner even said as much, saying that the program didn’t necessitate “maximum power,” in part to ensure engine stability and longevity.

The Supra’s performance numbers were not disclosed, but considering the priority AC Schnitzer put in increasing the coupe’s torque figures, it’s possible that the AC Schnitzer-tuned Supra can cover 60 mph from an idle position in the low-to-mid 3.0-second range

The estimated acceleration time also makes this tuned Supra faster to 60 mph than the Car and Driver-tested Supra that clocked in a time of 3.8 seconds and Toyota’s claimed acceleration time for the sports car of 4.1 seconds. In other words, AC Schnitzer’s goal of emphasizing torque gains should manifest itself beautifully on the Supra. Top speed, on the other hand, remains electronically limited to 155 mph.

Outside of the engine upgrade, AC Schnitzer also provided suspension modifications. The tuner’s in-house coilover system is available. Not only can it lower the Supra’s ride height by 1.57 inches, but the setup’s bump and rebound settings are also adjustable, allowing you to tinker with the kind of suspension setup you prefer when you’re driving your AC Schnitzer-tuned Supra around.

If dampers aren’t your thing, the tuner is also offering a lowering sprint kit that can drop the sports car’s ride height by an inch.

On the exhaust front, AC Schnitzer is offering a stainless steel muffler that the tuner claims to deliver a louder acoustic signature than the Supra’s stock muffler. In so many words, the in-house muffler can turn your Supra into a more ferocious-sounding sports car than it probably has any business of being.

To sum up, the list of upgrades is comprehensive. You get a straightforward software program that raises power levels that are way above the standard. You also get a systematic suspension upgrade and an exhaust setup that serves as a nice cap to what is, without question, an impressive tuning program for the Toyota Supra.

Final Thoughts

By virtue of its name alone, the Toyota Supra is already one of the most tuned sports cars in the market. As the years go by, you can expect more tuners to take stabs at creating the perfect aftermarket program for the Japanese sports car.

AC Schnitzer, which typically focuses its work on BMWs, even found a loophole — the coupe’s BMW-sourced 3.0-liter inline-six cylinder B58 engine - to develop a program for the Supra. AC Schnitzer’s program for the Supra is exactly what you’d expect from the tuner. It’s extensive, polished, and yields the kind of results that Supra owners could have a lot of fun with.
