Called the TLX Type S, it comes with an aggressive face and an exclusive exterior shade. It was the official pace car at this year’s Acura Sports Car Challenge held between May 14 and May 16, 2021.

Acura has introduced the PMC Edition of its best-selling SUV, the RDX. The RDX was introduced back in 2006 as a spiritual successor to the MDX, which went to take bigger roles in the portfolio, quite literally. The RDX debuted as a premium entry-level crossover and is an important product for Acura. Initially, it was built on the same platform that underpinned the Honda Civic and the CR-V, but the third-generation introduced in 2018 as a 2019 model year SUV and was based on a new platform. It has been the best-selling SUV for Acura in the last two years, so, keeping it fresh is imperative.

The company has introduced the PMC Edition of the SUV in Thermal Orange shade that is reminiscent of the NSX Hybrid supercar. And the price? $52,995 including destination charges. Is this a steal deal?

Automaker’s top-selling crossover gets an exclusive paint finish, among other new goodies

Four months after unveiling the TLX PMC Edition, Acura is giving the same special edition treatment to its RDX crossover. Dubbed the RDX PMC Edition, the special edition crossover benefits from the same exclusive additions Acura gave to the TLX. That includes the Thermal Orange Pearl paint finish that’s arguably one of the best colors you can get in the market. The RDX PMC Edition now occupies the range-topping slot in the lineup, combining the two trims sitting underneath it — the A-Spec and Advance Package — into one model. Befitting its status as a top-of-the-line special edition model, Acura is limiting the production of the special edition crossover to just 360 units, all of which are earmarked for the North American market. Each unit of the RDX PMC will carry a sticker price of “in the low $50,000,” according to Acura.

Acura’s Still Tight-Lipped but an NSX Type R Could Happen After All!

Ever since the Acura NSX made its glorious debut, folks everywhere have been blowing up Acura’s (and Honda’s) lines begging for an NSX Type R. The truth is that the Japanese company has been rather tight-lipped, and it remains that way, but a few little hints here and there have come about. In an interview with Motoring, Acura’s Vice President and General Manager, Jon Ikeda, was asked about the idea of a Honda NSX or Acura NSX Type R, and his response gives us a lot of hope.

“I’m a car guy, so always faster performance vehicles … yeah, we like that, we talk about it.”

Of course, he was very careful not to officially confirm anything, but he never denied the fact that it does exist (or will soon, anyway.) Acura’s U.S. PR Manager, Matt Sloustcher, was privy to the conversation as well. He stopped well short of actually confirming the Type R, but he did say “anything can happen” but that there aren’t necessarily plans in the works:

“We’ll see … anything can happen,” he said. “There’s always proposals,” he said, before cautioning that the company had no plans “at this stage.”

The suits from Acura were also quizzed about other things, including upgrade packages for existing NSX owners and the response was just as intriguing, saying that there’s “nothing that can be discussed.” With that in mind, Acura has managed to sell close to 1,000 examples of the NSX, and it’s still trying to get the word out if you will. If the car continues to sell, a Type R is very possible, as long as the demand is really there. Sure, journalists everywhere want an NSX Type R but do those with pockets deep enough want it too?

There’s no reason why not, but then again, it might not happen until the next-gen NSX comes about. When that happens, it could even go all-electric. It could feature a four-motor system like that found in the Pikes Peak EV Concept. That would deliver gut-wrenching performance to the tun of 1,000 horsepower. The 60-mph sprint could come in 2.5 seconds while 124 mph could come in as fast as six seconds.

Of course, we’re getting a little far ahead of ourselves at the moment. The point is that an NSX Type R could literally be around the corner.

Adding a few bits and pieces to the entry-level premium four-door

First introduced in 2012, the Acura ILX is framed as the premium brand’s replacement for the Acura TSX, and continues the tradition as a premium compact sedan offered at a relatively affordable price. At the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, Acura ushered in a refresh for the 2016 model year, bringing an updated 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, an eight-speed transmission, and new LED headlights. Now, there’s a special edition model on the table, and it gets sportier exterior styling plus new premium goodies in the cabin.

The new special edition is in dealers now, and it gets styling components pulled from the sporty-looking A-Spec package, plus premium touches in the cabin that help to justify the model’s luxurious aspirations. However, in terms of actual performance, the ILX Special Edition is essentially unchanged. Making the go is a standard-spec 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, with direct fuel injection, dual overhead cams, and the i-VTEC variable valve timing system. Sending the power to the front axle is an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, which can be controlled via steering wheel paddle shifters if desired. Peak output is rated at 201 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, while fuel mileage is rated at 25 mpg in the city, 35 mpg on the highway, and 29 mpg combined. Pricing for the Special Edition model is set at $28,900, which is an $800 premium over the standard model.

That is until Acura and Metric collaborated to build this completely insane ILX that comes with all those tricks. The car was built as a special marketing tool for Metric’s new "Synthetica" album and took 4,600 hours to build. Quite an achievement, if you ask us.

For a car that’s powered by a choice of three powertrains that include a 2.4-liter engine with 201 horsepower, the Acura ILX is one of those cars that won’t capture your attention off the bat. But something about this car shouts to the contrary.

2012 Acura TSX Special Edition

Special Addition Model features cosmetic tweaks.

Acura has spiffed up its entry level sedan, the TSX, to give us the 2012 Special Edition TSX. Though Acura will stick to its tried and true 2.4-liter inline-four VTEC power plant with no additional power increases, there are upgrades inside and out.

The exterior features a more aggressive front spoiler giving it a sporty look, reminiscent of their old sports coupe, the RSX. Other cosmetic upgrades include a rear bumper fascia, side sills, and a fancy "Special Edition" badge on the trunklid.

In the cabin, Acura has made "sport-minded appointments" including suede seat inserts with red backing. There is red stitching abound—on the shift knob, seats, and steering wheel—that compliment nicely with the red ambient lighting featured on the gauge cluster, overhead lighting, and footwell lighting. The pedals have also been upgraded to aluminum.

Acura has also released pricing options for the entire TSX range, with the base model starting at $29,810. The Special Edition starts at $30,810 and comes with either a five-speed auto or six-speed manual tranmission. Opt for the Technology Package—upgraded sound system and navigation—and the price jumps to $32,910.

If you want a 280-horsepower V6 model, MSRP climbs to $35,350, or $38,450 with the Technology Package. Wagon models are also available for $31,160, or $34,810 with the tech upgrades.
