Alfa Romeo is not left with a lot of models in its lineup. In the States there are only two models on sale at the moment: Giulia and the Stelvio, and the Tonale to be added in the near future. But, even with just two models the difference in between the base Giulia, or Stelvio and their Quadrifoglio versions is huge: there is a price discrepancy of almost $40K!

Now, the company wants to solve that problem, and it announced a new special edition "Estrema" for both the Giulia and the Stelvio. They will be based on the Veloce trim and placed at the top of the lineup, but, of course, below the Quadrifoglio.

What makes the 2022 Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio "Estrema" Editions special?

As mentioned, the new Estrema special edition is based on the Veloce trim, but Alfa Romeo added driving dynamics technology from the high-performance Quadrifoglio models. The first one is Alfa Active Suspension - which adjusts shock valving to deliver greater handling characteristics at speed while maintaining a comfortable ride.

The models will be distinguished by carbon fiber veneer on the grille and mirror caps and "Estrema" badges placed on the fenders and rear. There will be four exterior colors offered for them: Alfa White, Alfa Rosso, Misano Blue, and Vulcano Black combined with gloss black used for the B-pillar and side window trim.

For the new editions Alfa Romeo will be offering a new set of 19-inch alloy wheels for the Giulia and 21-inch alloys for the Stelvio.

For the interior, the new Estrema editions will come with black leather sports seats, standard leather dash, steering wheel, center armrest, shift lever, and upper door panel coverings - all combined with red stitching. Just like the Quadrifoglio trim, the Estrema edition will add carbon fiber elements on the dash, doors and center console.

For both models, Alfa Romeo is offering an optional Active Assist Plus package that includes:

- Driver Attention Alert

- Intelligent Speed Assist

- Highway Assist System

- Lane Keep Assist

- Traffic Sign Recognition

- Traffic Jam Assist

- Active Blind-spot Assist with braking

- Security alarm

Both models are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers a total of 280 horsepower and 306 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels via Alfa Romeo’s Q4 all-wheel-drive system. It is offered standard on the Stelvio and optional on the Giulia.

When equipped with this Q4 AWD system the Giulia sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds, while for the Stelvio equipped with the same system, the sprint is done in 5.5 seconds. The Giulia is also offered with an RWD system, and in this case, the sprint from 0 to 60 mph will be made in 5.5 seconds.
