The first seed of Aston Martin’s newly minted partnership with TAG Heuer has born fruit in the form of a special edition DBS Superleggera. Appropriately called the TAG Heuer Edition, the special edition DBS Superleggera is the four-wheeled embodiment of refined excellence. Exclusive features abound throughout the coupe’s exterior and interior, and the result is a stealthy-looking supercar that speaks loudly to the shared ideals of both Aston Martin and TAG Heuer. If you’re looking for a special edition supercar that oozes craftsmanship, quality, precision, and attention to detail, look no further than the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera TAG Heuer Edition. Only 50 units of this special edition DBS Superleggera will be made. Each model costs £295,000, which converts to around $390,000 based on current exchange rates.

What Makes the 2019 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Tag Heuer Edition Special?

I’ve been around long enough to see when a special edition model justifies its exclusive label. More often than not, automakers throw a fancy paint finish and a few aesthetic and aerodynamic bits into a car and call it a special edition. Sure, these cars are “exclusive” in the technical sense of the word, but they’re about as exciting as watching a candle burn its wax. As exciting as that may be for some people, I’d rather do something else with my time. Fortunately, the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera TAG Heuer Edition doesn’t fit into that category of a special edition.

I suppose it helps that the collaborators in this endeavor are two companies that share similar ideals with their respective brands. It makes the pairing more natural, to say the least. Aston Martin VP & CCO, Marek Reichman, expounded on that in a press release that announced new details about the special edition DBS Superleggera. “As soon as we knew about the partnership with TAG Heuer, the idea of a special edition that reflected the design cues of both brands began to form in the minds of the design team here at Aston Martin,” he said.

“Both brands understand the importance of meticulous craftsmanship and creating beautifully designed and engineered products and the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera TAG Heuer Edition reflects those values beautifully.”

Truer words have never been spoken, and the proof is, well, in the pudding. The first thing you’ll notice about the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera TAG Heuer Edition is its color. The premium material can also be found in the supercar’s vents, louvers, mirrors, the rear spoiler, and the rear splitter. In fact, every identifiable surface of the DBS Superleggera TAG Heuer Edition’s body is covered in some form of black, including the Aston Martin and Superleggera logos in the hood and the Aston Martin lettering in the back. The all-black look is broken up by a handful of items. There’s the small TAG Heuer fender badge below the side vents. The supercar’s 21-inch satin black twin-spoke alloy wheels are wrapped in Pirelli P Zero rubber tires with red trails on the sides and the brakes sitting behind the wheels are also finished in red. Otherwise, the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera TAG Heuer Edition is as black as black gets.

Move to the interior, and you’ll be welcomed by the same premium cabin that Aston Martin is famous for. Obviously, there are some fancy touches added into it to further showcase its exclusivity. The cabin is awash in pure black leather. That’s not surprising at all. These materials are typical of an Aston Martin, but they don’t drive home the exclusivity of the interior. That part is handled by a few add-ons, including the stitched TAG Heuer logo on the backrest of the front seats and the TAG Heuer strap and buckle combo that’s prominently displayed on top of the central armrest.

All the standard features that come in the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera remains in place. That includes the sports steering wheel, memory, and heated seats, front and rear parking sensors, automatic temperature control, and the always important floor mats. On the tech side, the DBS Superleggera is equipped with an eight-inch LCD screen, an integrated satellite navigation system, A2DP Bluetooth audio and phone streaming, and Aston Martin’s own premium sound system.

Unfortunately, the exclusivity of the DBS Superleggera TAG Heuer Edition doesn’t extend to the supercar’s engine. It’s a hardly a surprise, anyway, so it’s not that big of a loss. Besides, it’s not like the DBS Superleggera is lacking in this department. It is, after all, a supercar that’s powered by a 5.2-liter twin-turbo V-12 engine that produces 715 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. For a little perspective, the DBS Superleggera has 123 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque more than the Aston Martin Vanquish S and an equally significant 115-horsepower and 148-pound-foot increase over the Aston Martin DB11. A revised version of Aston Martin’s ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission sends all that power to the two rear wheels. Make a perfect jump off the line, and the DBS Superleggera can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.4 seconds. That’s 0.2 seconds faster than the Vanquish S and 0.5 seconds quicker than the DB11! Top speed is rated at 211 mph, which makes it one of the fastest production models Aston Martin has ever built.

Each model is priced at £295,000 — that converts to around $390,000 based on current exchange rates — and no less than Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer himself will personally inspect each of the 50 models before they leave the company’s production facility.

It’s safe to say that even if you had the money to buy one, acquiring it is going to be tricky because of its limited availability. There’s no word yet on how many units the U.S. market will receive, but don’t expect it to be many. Perhaps 20 units? Maybe less? In the event that you luck out and score a model, you’re also going home with the equally beautiful TAG Heuer DBS Edition Carrera Heuer 02. It has a hexagonal cut-out face that matches the shape of the DBS Superleggera’s grille. The straps are made from embossed black calf leather, another nod to the supercar, specifically the leather upholstery found in its interior. The straps also feature red contrast stitching

A limited edition supercar and a limited edition watch to go with it? It doesn’t get any better than that, does it?
