There’s no denying that Henrik Fisker’s Thunderbolt Concept is a stunning take on the Aston Martin Vanquish, but it’s also not hard to see how similar this design study looked to the actual car it was based upon. Aston Martin saw the similarities, too, and filed a lawsuit against Fisker for trademark infringements, but now it now seems that cooler heads have prevailed in this matter and the issue has been resolved.
Both parties released a joint statement that says Aston Martin has dropped its lawsuit in exchange for Fisker agreeing to not produce the Thunderbolt. When the car debuted, Fisker had said that the car would be sold in limited numbers through Galpin Motors in L.A. Galpin and Fisker teamed up to create the Ford Mustang Rocket at last year’s SEMA Show, but Ford obviously took less offense to that project than Aston Martin did to the Thunderbolt.
The good news is that this didn’t turn into a lengthy or ugly court case. Fisker unveiled the Thunderbolt Concept at the 2015 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance on March 14, and Aston Martin filed its lawsuit on March 26.

In a peculiar turn of events, Aston Martin has filed suit against Henrik Fisker, alleging that Fisker copied a number of a design elements on the
based Thunderbolt sports car. The suit also states that Fisker is misleading potential Thunderbolt buyers when he says that the model is based on the latest Aston Martin Vanquish, when in fact the car has the underpinnings of an older DB9 or DBS. Truthfully, the single photo of the interior of Fisker’s Thunderbolt does show a more old-school center console.
The news is even more surprising considering that Fisker used to be head of design at Aston Martin and was responsible for the V8 Vantage and the DB9’s looks. On top of that, Aston Martin says that the designer contacted his former employer in the early stages of development for the Thunderbolt, and Aston Martin believed that the final design would look different. After the Thunderbolt was shown at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, Aston Martin promptly filed a suit in a California court. "Fisker’s bad-faith intent to free-ride off the tremendous goodwill associated with the famous Aston Martin mark, wings logo, side vent mark, and Vanquish mark could not be more transparent," the carmaker said in the legal filing.
The complaint mentions harsh words like "trademark infringement, false designation of origin, dilution, false advertising, intentional interference with contractual relationship and interference with prospective economic advantage." In other words, the relationship between Henrik Fisker and Aston Martin couldn’t have turned more sour.

Two of my favorite cars of all time are the Porsche 959 and the AMC Eagle (even more so in SX/4 guise), so I’ll have to admit to being a little giddy when I first saw pictures of the Aston Martin DBX. I mean, what’s not to love about an all-wheel-drive Aston Martin coupe with plenty of ground clearance? Defying conventional Aston Martin logic even further, the DBX is also the first suggestion of an all-electric vehicle from the Gaydon-based automaker.
At this point, there’s no clue what Aston Martin has in mind for the DBX Concept, but with high-lux automakers like Bentley, Maserati, Lamborghini and Rolls-Royce all getting in on (or at least considering) the SUV segment, the DBX would be a unique way for Aston Martin to join the party without angering brand loyalists too much. There is also the chance that the design is a styling exercise hinting at a future production performance grand touring car, or it’s just a way to bring Aston Martin into the EV conversation. All are possibilities, but only time will tell which, if any, proves to be true.

Creating Vision Gran Turismo concept cars has become quite the habit among automakers, as they rushed to showcase their design skills and advanced powertrains in the latest iteration of the franchise. This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed brought yet another futuristic supercar to the game, this time from British-based company Aston Martin.
Dubbed DP-100 and developed in-house by a team led by Design Director Marek Reichman, the concept car highlights a brand-new approach for the company, as its engine is mounted behind the seats. The Brits have yet to build sports cars in this configuration, except for the B09/60 Le Mans prototype co-developed with Lola, and the DP-100 comes to put an end to that. At least in the virtual world.
The DP-100 joins a large batch of virtual supercars created for Gran Turismo 6 this year, and will be available for gamers to download starting July 2014. There are no production plans waiting to turn this virtual racer into a vehicle for the real world, but the DP-100 is a concept worth looking into from a design and technological point of view.

If there is a limited-edition vehicle that people with deep pockets should taken notice of, Aston Martin’s DBR1-inspired CC100 Speedster is likely it.
Unfortunately, if you were late to the party, you won’t be able to get your hands on one. The concept, which Aston built to celebrate the British automaker’s 100th anniversary, has now been scooped up by what we can only imagine to be a financially well off collector. After all, he paid around $770,000 for the chance to own the car so he clearly has enough money left on his bank account to absorb that kind of monetary hit.
According to Autocar, there will be a second CC1000 to be built, but like the first model, that one’s already accounted for after Aston Martin was commissioned to build it. Aston Martin’s already building that car and the lucky fella who paid an equal premium for it is expected to take delivery of a literal two-of-a-kind vehicle later this year.
We don’t know about you, but if we had the finances to make that kind of splurge, we wouldn’t hesitate in following the footsteps of these two men.
Rarely do you chance upon a concept as cool and as riveting as the CC100 and the chance of owning one is something our bank accounts would have taken a hit for without even blinking.
That is if our accounts were fat enough to do so.

Next to theAston Martin Rapide Shooting Brake "Jet 2+2" Concept set to be unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Bertone has also prepared an updated version of the original Vanquish-based Jet unveiled back in 2004. The new Jet 2 is still based on the previous-generation Vanquish, but its mechanics and design have been updated to fit the all-new Vanquish.
The new Jet 2 features the same shooting brake body style as the Rapide Jet 2+2 and so happens to be the personal car of Lilli Bertone, Bertone’s president.
The new Jet 2 features an updated design, new exterior colors and a more luxurious interior trim. The model also offers increased cabin space and a 2+2 seating configuration, thanks to the added 210 mm (8.26 inches) in length.
Full details on the new Bertone Jet 2 will be unveiled during the concept’s official debut in Geneva.
A few days after posting a teaser about a Geneva-bound model that Bertone was working on, we finally get to see the car beneath the shadows.
Turns out, it’s an Aston Martin. More specifically, an Aston Martin Rapide Shooting Brake called the Jet 2+2.
The Italian design and coachbuilder is apparently building this one-off concept, showcasing the mighty Aston Martin Rapide and turning it into a shooting brake.
Granted, the Rapide is Aston Martin’s first four-door sedan in their lineup and as such, an expansion to shooting brake territory could’ve been in order down the road.
But seeing as Aston Martin and Bertone have a history of working together in the past, including the creation of the Jet 2 concept back in 2004, it only seemed appropriate that the Italian coachbuilder would be tasked by Aston to create a strict one-off model.
Aston Martin and Bertone have yet to reveal official details surrounding the Rapide Shooting Brake Jet 2+2, but Autocar managed to find out some info about the one-off concept.

During this past week-end at the Villa d’Este Concours d’Elegance, Aston Martin has displayed the new Project AM 310 - a preview version of the next generation DBS set to be unveiled in August at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
While Aston Martin is still not offering any official details on this new concept, numerous internet sources are suggesting that the AM 310 will be powered by a 6.0-liter V12 engine with output increased to 573 HP - an increase o 63 HP over the engine currently used in model likeV12 Vantage, DBS and DB9.
Also, the new AM 310 will be featuring a lightweight construction and comes with a transaxle gearbox and wishbone suspension. The concept is also making intense use of carbon fiber elements, while it is easily to notice lots of design elements inspired by the One-77 supercar - a feature already confirmed for the next DBS.
All we can say is that sure the next DBS will be bolder and more aggressive and we can hardly wait to see it on the roads.

UPDATE 06/04/12: Aston Martin has released a new teaser video of the Project AM310, calling it "The Art of Aston Martin". It’s got plenty of shots of thunder clouds, a Japanese samurai, a fighter pilot, and even a shark - but no sign of the Project AM310. Talk about the ultimate tease.
UPDATE 06/15/12: Even if Aston Martin has already unveiled the AM 310 Project at the Villa d’Este Concours d’Elegance, the company is continuing to tease the new supercar and also announced the new 310 will arrive soon.

There are so many auto shows throughout the course of the year that it’s hard to keep up with all of the cool concepts brought to each one. Then again, some of these concepts are so outlandish that they will never see the light of production day anyway, leaving us with the feeling of being offered a delectable chocolate cake only to be reminded of our New Year’s weight loss resolution.
Even if production chances are slim for some, concepts hold a special place in all of our hearts because of the attention to detail automakers put into them. Automakers use these concepts to put out just how much they are capable of doing and quite possibly may do on their future models.
From three different, color coordinated layers of information to V12 engines with spectacular power outputs, concepts have a way of getting underneath our skin and staying there until the production model is attained. This year, our choices are unmistakable and in no particular order: the Jaguar C-X16 Concept, the BMW i8 Concept, the Aston Martin V12 Zagato Concept, the Chevrolet Mi-Ray Concept, and the Nissan Juke Nismo Concept.

For automakers, there’s nothing better than showing up at the debut for one of your automobiles and getting a top notch award for your hard work. Aston Martin, Cadillac, and Ford will vouch for that since their One-77, Ciel Concept, and Focus Plug-In Electric Vehicle were all given best in show awards at the 41st annual South Florida International Auto Show (SFIAS) by the Southern Automotive Media Association (SAMA). SAMA had to choose between many of the participants in Miami, but in the end, these vehicles were chosen because of their styling and marketability.
The Aston Martin One-77 was awarded the “Star of the Show” trophy because the nine-member SAMA judging panel decided it was the single vehicle on display at the show that South Floridians will most want to see. Other vehicles considered for the award were the Audi A7, the Lexus GS sedan, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the Toyota Camry, the Range Rover Evoque, and the Hyundai Veloster.
The Cadillac Ciel Concept was given the Best Concept Vehicle in the Show because of its stunning beauty and because SAMA considered it a forerunner of future Cadillac styling. Meanwhile, the Ford Focus Plug-In Electric Vehicle took home the “Best Green Technology Vehicle” in the show because of the fact that it is Ford’s first non-emissions, plug-in electric car to be mass produced and marketed in the United States. Other vehicles considered were the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, the Toyota Prius V, and various manufacturers’ hybrid and clean diesel technology vehicles.
The South Florida International Auto Show (SFIAS) runs until November 6, 2011, so stop by the Miami Beach Convention Center to check out these award-winning models.
Aston Martin will be celebrating the iconic DB4GT Zagato’s 50th anniversary with a new concept car developed in collaboration with the Italian design house Zagato. The concept car made its first appearance at the Villa D’Este Concours on May 21st, 2011 and will make its racing debut at Nürburgring on May 28th.
Dr. Ulrich Bez, Chief Executive said: "The DNA of both Aston Martin and Zagato has combined successfully to make some of the world’s most desirable collector cars in the past and in this special anniversary year of the DB4GT Zagato it is appropriate to explore a modern collaboration. Now is the right time for a new Aston Martin Zagato and in combining our design intelligence I think we can create something fitting of the iconic DB4GT Zagato that has gone before and since established itself as one of the most famous Aston Martins of all time."
The original Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato made its first appearance in 1960 at the London Motor Show. It was essentially a much lighter DB4 GT that got worked on by the Italian Coachbuilder to include a 3670 cc straight-6 DOHC engine that produced 314 HP with a top speed of 154 mph.
UPDATE 07/01/2011: The V12 Zagato has finally been listed on the Aston Martin web page, giving us an official confirmation that it will soon go on sale. According to the web site, "only a strictly limited run of road going cars will be built" and we will get more details about in the next few weeks.
UPDATE 07/0711: Now this is what we’re talking about! Aston Martin has finally given the pricing for the V12 Zagato. But that’s where the good news ends, at least as far as those that will have a hard time affording it. Anybody who wants to score this limited edition piece of beauty will have to shell out £330,000, which is around $528,000 based on current exchange rates. Gulp.
UPDATE 08/12/11: Aston Martin announced today that the V12 Zagato concept next with the One-77 supercar will make their American debuts in Monterey from August 17th to 21st. The V12 Zagato will debut in the evening of Wednesday August 17th at McCall’s Motorworks Revival and Aston Martin has confirmed once again that a strictly limited production run of the V12 Zagato will commence in summer 2012.
"Guests will be given the rare opportunity to test drive our latest model range, including the new Virage and Vantage S, as well as the four-door Rapide" commented Julian Jenkins, Vice President Aston Martin the Americas. "We are very excited about the program this year including the debut of the V12 Zagato, and we look forward to welcoming current owners, new customers and automotive enthusiasts to share our celebrations at The Aston Martin Estate."

Rumors about a partnership between Aston Martin and Maybach first appeared at the end of last year when we reported that the two companies would team up for a luxury sedan. Now, AutoCar reports that the two companies are set to bring a concept car developed together to the Frankfurt show in September 2011.
While neither Aston Martin nor Maybach would comment on this rumor, it is believed that the concept to be displayed in Frankfurt will be a luxury car with a high-quality interior finished to the hand-crafted standards of a British luxury saloon.
This news shouldn’t really surprise anyone considering Mercedes needs to decide by the end of June which partner they will choose to develop replacements for the 57 and 62 saloons. This type of partnership is mutually beneficial because Aston Martin can bring its interior design skills to the table, particularly the use of traditional materials in conjunction with hi-tech features, and Mercedes can share its new alloy body technology and engines for third-generation Vantage and DB9 models.
