A Deep Look Into Aston Martin’s Mid-Engined History
Aston Martin is known as a maker of exquisite and refined grand tourers, long-legged cars that offer enough panache to satisfy Ian Fleming’s James Bond on many an occasion. You could say Aston Martin knows every trick there is to know when it comes to building a front-engined GT car and that’s why they’re now looking to build more and more cars with the engine behind the seats. But the Valkyrie, the new Vanquish, and the AM-RB 003 aren’t the first of their kind in Aston Martin’s history.
When you think of any DB model from Aston Martin, you imagine an elegant two-door tourer ready for long journeys with a sumptuous and well-appointed interior and a feisty engine in front of the windshield. The company’s one and only Le Mans winner, the DBR1, was also front-engined as was the futuristic brick-like Lagonda luxury sedan from the ’70s. But, then, in the ’80s, when Aston Martin returned to sports car racing, it did so with a mid-engined car. This effectively heralded a new breed of Aston Martins, one that has stayed away from the public highways up until now but one that’s interesting to look into nonetheless.
2020 Aston Martin AM-RB 003
The Aston Martin AM-RB 003, previously known as Project 003, is a concept car that previews a production model scheduled to arrive in 2021. The company’s third supercar, the AM-RB 003 follows in the footsteps of theValkyrie and Valkyrie AMR Pro, formerly known as Project 001 and Project 002, respectively.
Just like the Valkyrie, the AM-RB 003 is being developed with input from Red Bull Advanced Technologies in the design and engineering departments and will include features and technologies from the said hypercar. Aston Martin promises that this supercar will "meet and surpass the performance demands of existing top-end hypercar rivals," but until actual data comes out, it’s just PR talk. Lagonda All-Terrain Concept Is a Luxury SUV That Is Suitable To Become Your Home As Well As Your Workplace
Aston Martin has revived the Lagonda marque as a luxury all-electric brand and is going berserk with new launches in a short frame of time. The company has unveiled its second concept car, the Lagonda All-Terrain Concept, at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Unlike the last year’s audacious Lagonda Vision concept, Aston Martin says that this one will make it to production. From what we have seen, we really hope it does.
The 2020 Aston Martin AM-RB 003 Is a Valkyrie with a Hybrid V-6 and Luggage Room
Aston Martin’s long-awaited mid-engine hypercar is about to take the 2019 Geneva Motor Show by storm. It’s called the AM-RB 003 — we previously knew it as “Project 003” — and Aston Martin wants us to think of it as the Valkyrie’s offspring, or, as Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer calls it, “the bridge” that connects the world of mid-engine Astons with the high heavens where the Valkyrie currently resides. Truth be told, the AM-RB 003 shares more than a family tree with the Valkyrie. The former is, in many ways, heavily influenced by the latter, using much of the same technology and fundamental design cues that came to define the Valkyrie. That’s why the AM-RB 003 looks a lot like its “father,” albeit with a more refined and streamlined appearance that goes hand in hand with an electrified powertrain that features a turbocharged V-6 engine. Only 500 units of the AM-RB 003 will be released. There’s no specific price tag yet, but don’t expect it to sell for anything less than £1 million. If you’re keeping score, that’s $1.32 million based on current exchange rates.

Aston Martin took the 2019 Geneva Motor Show by storm with no fewer than three concept vehicles, one of which is the Vanquish Vision Concept. Displayed alongside the AM-RB 003 and the Lagonda All-Terrain, the Vanquish Vision Concept previews an upcoming supercar.
Although the Vanquish nameplate is traditionally reserved for the company’s flagship grand tourer, the Brits are now using it for a supercar. That’s also because the GT was renamed the DBS Superleggera following its redesign. Details are slim as of this writing, but let’s see what we can expect from this high-performance coupe.
2019 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera TAG Heuer Edition
The first seed of Aston Martin’s newly minted partnership with TAG Heuer has born fruit in the form of a special edition DBS Superleggera. Appropriately called the TAG Heuer Edition, the special edition DBS Superleggera is the four-wheeled embodiment of refined excellence. Exclusive features abound throughout the coupe’s exterior and interior, and the result is a stealthy-looking supercar that speaks loudly to the shared ideals of both Aston Martin and TAG Heuer. If you’re looking for a special edition supercar that oozes craftsmanship, quality, precision, and attention to detail, look no further than the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera TAG Heuer Edition. Only 50 units of this special edition DBS Superleggera will be made. Each model costs £295,000, which converts to around $390,000 based on current exchange rates.
2019 Aston Martin Lagonda All-Terrain Concept
The Lagonda All-Terrain Concept is a zero-emissions concept vehicle set to break cover at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Built by Aston Martin as the brands first all-electric SUV, it follows the Lagonda Vision Concept from 2018 and will eventually inspire a production model.
We don’t know much about the All-Terrain concept at this point, but Aston Martin did release a teaser photo that shows some the Lagonda’s front fascia. Although it was originally rumored that Lagonda’s first SUV will go against the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, it seems the Brits are actually preparing a sportier crossover that’s smaller than Rolls-Royce’s massive hauler. The 2019 Geneva Motor Show is only two weeks away, and automakers are already rolling out teasers of vehicles they will showcase in Switzerland. Among them, there’s the Aston Martin Project 003, a new hypercar that the British firm is looking to launch in 2021. We only have a teaser shot and little info right now, but Project 003 looks and sounds exciting, to say the least.
Aston Martin Teases Us With the Lagonda All-Terrain Concept That Will Debut at the Geneva Motor Show
Lagonda is a spinoff brand of Aston Martin that revives an old nameplate, one under which the British manufacturer wants to launch its first SUV model that could make its debut in 2020. But until the series model is shown to the public, they’ll be teasing it with this study called the All-Terrain Concept that will be fully revealed at the 2019 Geneva motor show (where we’ll be present to bring you live photos and the latest information).
2018 Lagonda Vision Concept
Under Aston Martin ownership since 1947, Lagonda stopped making production cars in 1990, with a handful of models unveiled after the Aston Martin Lagonda sedan was discontinued. Rumored to make a comeback in the late 2000s, Lagonda finally returned to the market in 2014, when the limited-edition Taraf sedan was introduced. Four years have passed, since and Lagonda has now unveiled the Vision Concept at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.
A futuristic vehicle with a sleek, shooting brake-like design, the Vision Concept sports a luxurious, four-seat interior that’s ready to give Rolls-Royce and Bentley products a run for their money. Like many modern concepts, it also has autonomous drive and uses a zero-emission drivetrain. More importantly, Lagonda says that the Vision Concept previews a production model that’s scheduled to hit the assembly line in 2021. The upcoming model will have an SUV body style and will borrow styling features from the Geneva show car. Aston Martin Just Put Bentley and Rolls-Royce of the Future in Check with the Lagonda Vision Concept
These days every automaker has their eyes set on the future, and Aston Martin just showcased their vision of the ultra-luxurious, autonomous future with the Lagonda Vision Concept. Basically, a car designed with Bentley and Rolls-Royce customers in mind, the Lagonda offers a unique look inside and out with a few materials inside that you wouldn’t usually expect. It’s, naturally, all-electric because that is the future, and it even has a steering wheel for the ultra-wealthy that still like to grip the wheel from time to time. This model will never make it to production, but Aston says that its design language is a preview of the future and at least some of the DNA could make its way into production as soon as 2021.
Unveiled in 2017, the Valkyrie is by far Aston Martin’s most spectacular and radical vehicle yet. It’s extreme compared to other supercars too, mostly because it blends the designs of Le Mans prototypes and Formula One cars in a very unique way. But Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing didn’t stop there and took the concept to new heights with a track-only version under the AMR Pro banner. The car was just unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, and it eclipses just about anything at the Swiss event, including the new and brutal McLaren Senna GTR.
Aston Martin CEO Hints at a Special Surprise for the Geneva Motor Show
Aston Martin will be in attendance at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, and it’s not going there with the usual cadre of models that we’ve already seen. On the contrary, the British automaker is lining up an epic roster of showcase models, including what CEO Andy Palmer describes as “one or two surprises.” We don’t know what these two surprises are, but since it came from Palmer himself, we’re going to go out on a limb and say that we could be in for a quite a treat when we stop by Aston’s booth in Geneva.
2017 Aston Martin Vantage AMR Pro Concept
Around since 2005, the current-generation Aston Martin Vantage might seem a bit long in the tooth, but it’s still one of the finest luxury grand tourers you can buy. Updated over the years and offered in numerous limited-edition models, the Vantage will definitely be missed when a new generation comes around. But, the current iteration isn’t going away anytime soon and Aston Martin decided to spice things up by including it in its brand-new AMR program, which was launched at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
If you’re familiar with the company’s intense racing program, you probably already know that AMR stands for Aston Martin Racing. The reason why the Brits are using the same letters for this project is because all non-racing AMR cars will be inspired by the successful GT3- and GT4-spec racers you’ve seen on the track in recent years. In short, Aston Martin just launched its very own high-performance department. And the good news is that it will make both road-legal and race-ready models.
Specifically, the AMR lineup will include two types of cars. There will be plain AMR versions closely related to their road-going counterparts and AMR Pro cars on the more extreme side of things. This Vantage falls in the latter category and the AMR Pro badge also means that its development was led by the Q by Aston Martin Advanced Operations, the department that helped create vehicles such as the Vantage GT12, Vantage GT8, and the Vulcan.
Although just a concept here, the Vantage AMR Pro is set to become a full-fledged, fully customizable production model, joining the Rapide AMR concept that was also displayed at the Geneva Motor Show.

2017 Aston Martin Rapide AMR Concept
Developed as a spiritual successor to the iconic Lagonda, the Rapide was launched in 2010 and became the company’s first four-door in two decades. Updated to "S" specification in 2013, when it also received an upgraded V-12 engine, the Rapide soldiered on unchanged until 2017 and there weren’t many hints that Aston Martin is planning on doing something new anytime soon. However, the sedan was included in the new performance AMR program that the British firm launched at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
Essentially a high performance brand similar to Mercedes’ AMG and BMW’s M division, AMR is actually inspired by the Aston Martin Racing motorsport division and adds numerous bespoke features, as well as drivetrain upgrades. The AMR lineup will include two types of cars. There will be plain AMR models closely related to their road-going counterparts and AMR Pro cars with more extreme specs, including versions for track use only. The Rapide AMR concept is part of the former, being less aggressive than a track-prepped car but slotting above the regular model.
Aston Martin didn’t say how many of the features created for the show will make it to the production model, but it’s safe to assume that every single add-on will be made available to customers. Especially given the already high degree of customization you can get with standard models.

Vengeance Volante by Kahn Keeps the Iconic Aston Martin DB9 Alive
Established in 1998, British tuner Kahn Design has made a name for itself by modifying Land Rover vehicles almost exclusively. However, the firm also modified various other models in recent years, including Jeep, Porsche, and even Maybach. Kahn is also part of the Ant-Kahn project, which builds sports cars inspired by designs from the 1960s. More recently, the British tuner launched its first official Aston Martin-based project, the Vengeance WB12. Essentially a widebody version of the DB9. At the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, Kahn unveiled the Volante variant.
As the name suggests – assuming you’re familiar with Aston Martin’s naming strategy – Volante stands for the convertible. So we’re basically looking at a chopped off Vengeance, but that’s not to say that the Volante isn’t on the spectacular side. Significantly wider than the standard DB9, it also boasts radical modifications front and rear. The front fascia has a completely new bumper with a wider grille and reshaped side intakes, while the rear sports a carbon-fiber diffuser, a trunk lid spoiler, and round taillights inspired by vintage sports cars from the 1960s. On top of that, it’s wrapped in an attractive light blue color complemented by multi-spoke, black wheels.
Inside, there’s handcrafted black leather on all seats and custom door panels. The red stripes on the center console and stack add o splash of color to the black cabin, while the steering wheel is wrapped entirely in Alcantara.
Much like the coupe, the Volante comes with the DB9’s standard drivetrain, meaning the car gets its juice from a 6.0-liter V-12 engine rated at 503 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque. In standard guise, the DB9 needs around 4.5 seconds to hit 60 mph from a standing start, to go with a top speed of 183 mph. There’s no word on pricing, but expect to pay around 50 percent above the DB9 Volante. Production will be limited to just a few units, likely no more than 20.

Aston Martin Launches Performance AMR Division in Geneva
British sports car maker Aston Martin has just taken another step toward expanding its lineup with the introduction of the performance-oriented AMR division. Derived from the Aston Martin Racing arm, AMR made its public debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, where two production-ready concepts previewed the first models to wear the new badge.
Based on the regular models but developed With enhanced performance, sharper dynamics and more aggressive styling, the AMR cars will pretty much slot between the standard road-going lineup and the race-only vehicles created for GT4- and GT3-spec racing. The AMR brand follows in the footsteps of iconic Aston Martin road cars from the past, such as those that received the Vantage designation before it became a stand-alone nameplate. Vantage-specification models were launched in 1951 and the project eventually steered the marque to an historic outright win at Le Mans in 1959.
AMR cars will also take inspiration from Aston Martin Racing. Established in 2004, the motorsport division has enjoyed great success in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), winning the GT Drivers’ Championship in 2016 and securing three class victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. On top of that, the company’s GT3 and GT4 programs have brought home countless victories and championship titles over the last decade.
The AMR lineup will include two types of cars. There will be plain AMR models closely related to their road-going counterparts and AMR Pro cars on the more extreme side of things, including versions for track use only. The development of all AMR Pro models will be led by the Q by Aston Martin Advanced Operations, the highly-skilled department that helped create outstanding vehicles such as the Vantage GT12, Vantage GT8 and Aston Martin Vulcan.

2017 Aston Martin DB11 by Q
Introduced in 2016 as a replacement for the long-running DB9, the Aston Martin DB11 is returning to the Geneva Motor Show exactly one year after its debut. This time around, the British firm is using the Swiss event to showcase the first DB11 tailored by Q, its personalization division. What’s more, the DB11 by Q also marks the debut of Aston Martin’s enhanced bespoke service, which now includes more options than ever.
Specifically, the Q division evolved into a multi-tiered offering that gives customers almost limitless opportunities to create their unique Aston Martin. The new collection includes exclusive paint and upholstery colors, and new material finishes and craft elements. These range from a unique leather quilt upholstery pattern to tinted wheel finishes with body-colored blades, as well as new wood and leather inserts inside the cabin.
The DB11 by Q will share the stage with two other fresh Aston Martin vehicles. Visitors will be able to take a closer look at the new Vanquish S, the most powerful and dynamic grand tourer to date, as well as the AM-RB 001 hypercar, which makes its European debut after going public for the very first time at the Canadian International Auto Show.

2016 Aston Martin Vulcan
There’s been a lot of talk in recent years about Aston Martin’s financial troubles and whether or not the brand will manage to survive on its own. Reports suggested at some point that the Brits might receive financial backing from various companies., but while that scenario didn’t come to fruition, Aston Martin buckled up and launched an all-new vehicle nevertheless. Dubbed Vulcan and described as "something very special," Aston Martin’s new project turned out to be a track-focused supercar in the vein of the Ferrari FXX K and the McLaren P1 GTR. At the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the Brits unleashed the Vulcan for the whole world to see, and, as it turns out, Gaydon’s new baby is as special as it gets.
Skeptics that expected to see a beefed up, race-spec Vantage were in for quite a surprise, as the Vulcan was brand-new not only in design, but under the hood as well. What’s more, it arrived with its own racing program and the kind of exclusivity only Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren were able to deliver until then. There’s a lot of PR talk coming with all-new vehicles nowadays, but Aston Martin nailed it when it described the Vulcan as the "brand’s most intense and exhilarating creation to date." 2017 Aston Martin DB11
Aston Martin has been relying on its VH (Vertical/Horizontal) platform since 2001, using it in all of its vehicles except the Aston Martin One-77 and the 2011 Toyota iQ- based Cygnet city car. That came to an end in 2016, when the Brits introduced their new, lighter architecture that includes parts engineered by Mercedes’ high-performance AMG division. The new platform will also see Aston Martin vehicles receive the biturbo, 4.0-liter V-8 launched in the Mercedes-AMG GT, which will be supplied to Gaydon-based on a partnership with Daimler. The first Aston Martin product to benefit from these new features was unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. It goes by the name DB11 and replaces the iconic DB9.
Sent into showrooms for the 2017 model year, the DB11 introduced Aston Martin’s new styling language and a host of new technologies. Previewed by the DB10 James Bond movie car, the new design brought a sportier and more compact appearance to Aston Martin’s grand tourer, while still relying on the classic features that made this brand famous in the 1960s. Along with the new design, the DB11 also debuted Gaydon’s brand-new V-12 powerplant, which now makes use of turbocharging for enhanced output, improved fuel economy, and reduced emissions. Aston’s first all-new, mass-produced vehicle in more than a decade, the DB11 marked the beginning of a new era for Britain’s famed GT manufacturer.
