Pininfarina Wants To Unleash A Monster, Plans for Electric Supercar Are Real
Pininfarina is not a full-fledged automaker. The company that made its name as one of the premier auto design studios in the world is now called Automobili Pininfarina. It’s expected to launch a fleet of electric SUVs as part of its future offerings, but the first model to come out of the newly-minted automaker will be the furthest thing from an SUV. According to boss Michael Perschke, the first model to carry the Automobili Pininfarina badge will be an electric hypercar.
McLaren’s Decision To Use The "Senna" Name Is Rooted in The Desires and Attention-to-Detail of the Three-Time World Champion
McLaren’s decision to use the “Senna” name on its latest supercar didn’t come without any curious reactions. The British automaker had adopted a simple alphanumeric naming strategy for its models, so it was surprising for the automaker to not only change that strategy but to use the name of arguably the greatest race car driver in history on its latest supercar creation. Why exactly did McLaren do it beyond the obvious reason that it wanted to pay tribute to the man who won three world championships for the team? The answer, according to McLaren, is in the details.
Porsche Just Set a New Personal Best Around the Nurburgring With the 911 GT3 RS
As is tradition among the fastest of the fast, the latest Porsche 911 GT3 RS (also known as the 991.2 generation) went to the Nurburgring recently to test its mettle (and its metal) against nearly 13 miles of technical and challenging race corners. All told, the mean and green speed machine ripped around the Nordschleife in what appears to be a new personal best for the nameplate, as exhibited in a recent video posted to YouTube by user xthilox. Hit play below to hear well over 500 horses at full chat while the Porsche in question slingshots around the German corners with cartoonish velocity.
The new 911’s upgrades should make it quicker than the outgoing generation, which set a maxed-out time around the Green Hell at 7 minutes, 12 seconds. What’s more, the car featured here is equipped with the lightness-adding Weissach package, which cuts a total of 18 kg (39.7 pounds) from the final curb weight. It also beefs up the suspension with CFRP components for the front and rear anti-roll bars and coupling rods, while the composite material is added to the roof and front lid. Optional forged magnesium wheels are in the corners.
Rumor has it all that good stuff enabled this Stuttgart superstar to post a fastest lap of 6 minutes, 56 seconds. If true, that would make it quicker than the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce and about as quick as the Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid monster, but not quite as quick as the latest Porsche 911 GT2 RS, which ran a 6:47 last September. It’s impressive stuff all the same.
Canada Scores Big as McLaren Gives it Its Own McLaren 570S MSO
Canada isn’t the first country you think of that gets a fair amount of exclusive special editions. For whatever reason, that distinction probably goes to Japan. But the Great White North gets its fair share, and the latest one is this bespoke beauty from McLaren’s MSO customization division. It’s called the McLaren 570S Spider Canada Commission, and it’s limited to just five units.
Eagle Eye: Bugatti Knows Everything About Every Chiron It Builds and Sells
It’s not exactly on the level of the government keeping tabs on our daily lives, but it’s a little similar in some respects. Bugatti has an active remote service for the Chiron that allows the automaker to monitor a portion of technical data pertaining to the supercar’s real-time performance. The remote monitoring system isn’t that different from the one popularized by Tesla. It’s just that Bugatti had its own system in place when it launched the Veyron supercar almost ten years ago. More importantly, it still uses it today with the Chiron.
DS Looks Like it Has a Jewel of a Concept in The X E-Tense
Two years ago, the DS performance brand unveiled the E-Tense Concept at the Geneva Motor Show. As the brand’s supposed answer to the Audi R8, the E-Tense Concept gained traction as a potential production model. Nothing has come out of it since, and that has led to speculation that those plans have been scrapped. Fortunately, for every door that closes, another one opens. Fast forward to 2018 and DS has a new concept on its hands. It’s called the DS X E-Tense, and, judging by the teaser video, it looks like a worthy follow-up to its namesake.

Now, it looks like Mercedes may have the Porsche Cayman in its sights, and it’ll take it on with a stand-alone small sports car.
Pops’ Rants: Is the BMW M4 Worth it with the M2 Competition around?
Back in 2015, BMW did something really cool for old-school enthusiasts by launching the M2. A spiritual successor to the highly acclaimed 1M Coupe, the M2 is a tad smaller than the M4, and although it misses 60 horsepower and 63 pound-feet, it’s only three-tenths of a second slower to 60 mph and only six seconds slower on the Nurburgring. The M2 is the modern embodiment of the original M3, a status that the M4 will never benefit from. Things have just become a lot more serious for the M2 now, which climbed another step on the performance ladder with the Competition package.
Meet the "L’Ultimo" - The Final Production Model of the Pagani Huayra All Dressed Up in Hamilton-Inspired Livery
Six years after production of the Pagani Huayra started, the Italian supercar is all set to say goodbye with a final production model. Fittingly, the last-ever coupe version is saying adios with a bang, specifically in the form of a special edition model, called “L’Ultimo.” Like most special edition Paganis, the Huayra L’Ultimo is a one-off bespoke project that carries its own unique identity. In this case, the Huayra L’Ultimo pays homage to Lewis Hamilton’s Formula One race car.
Smart Car to Become Global EV Brand, Taking Over Europe Once North America is Conquered
Long thought to be a cute little brand that had a much lower ceiling than most automakers in the industry, Daimler-owned smart is now setting its sights on becoming a full-fledged global all-electric car brand. The announcement was made by Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche, who indicated plans to turn Smart into an all-electric brand in Europe, following a similar announcement made for the North American market last year.
Let’s not beat around the bush here. The Infiniti Q60 is like the girl next door of the car world. She’s sexy, teases you from a distance with her sweet curves, and has an attitude to back up her good looks. In this case, however, the Q60 has a hotter sister, and the Project Black S is it. Go ahead, you know you want to add some car porn to your desktop ;)
The Dodge Durango GT Snarls at the Competition Thanks to the SRT-inspired Rallye Appearance Package
It’s been only two months since Dodge launched a new Mopar package for the Durango, and now there’s a new bundle on the table. While the Mopar pack was created for the range-topping SRT model, this upgrade is offered for Durango GT, which sits at the midpoint of the lineup. Called the Rallye Appearance Package, the new bundle is inspired by the sportier R/T and SRT models and was designed to give customers the fuel efficiency of the Pentastar V-6 and the looks of something powered by a V-8.
