Audi’s got a new car in the pipeline but in typical fashion, the company’s going to squeeze out every ounce of curiosity from all of us before unveiling their new ride. The folks from Ingolstadt even released a couple of photos showing off their fleet of new cars with one car intriguingly draped in a white blanket. Apparently, that car is Audi’s answer to the BMW 5-Series, the 2012 Audi A6 sedan..

Not many details have been released for Audi’s refreshed sedan, but a picture is sometimes worth a thousand words and, although these pictures are disguised to say the least, information can still be gathered.

UPDATE 06/26/2012: It looks like Audi is about to give the A6 a little love this coming model year as they are adding in some upgrades to the base level A6 2.0T to make it a little more desirable. These changes include an eight-speed automatic transmission and the availability of Audi’s Quattro system on the 2013 A6 2.0T. Hit the jump for details.

The new A6 is 4.92 meters (16.14 ft) long and 1.87 meters (6.14 ft) wide, but just 1.46 meters (4.79 ft) high – sporty proportions that are unrivaled by the competition. The model features a new aluminum and high-tech steels body, elements that help the new A6 to weight 15% less than a conventional steel construction.

The whole body is defined by harmonious proportions: a long engine hood, short overhangs and the sweeping roofline. Up front there is a high-gloss black, the large, low single-frame grill and wide, low air intakes. Both headlights and taillights feature LED technology, with the rear lights forming a visually continuous band in the form of a wide, U-shaped curve. The car’s rear is defined by a subtle spoiler edge and a matte black diffuser insert that envelopes the two large, round tailpipes for the exhaust system.

Like all the other models in the line-up, the A6 will be offered with the S-Line package. This includes: more prominently featured bumpers, grills on the air intakes, diffuser insert and S-Line badges on the door sills.

The interior is defined by an ambiance of airiness and roominess; high quality materials and all the latest technologies. Customers can choose between sports seats and comfort seats, which can be adjusted in 18 different ways; both of them covered in leather and an Alcantara/leather. The latest-generation MMI radio operating system is standard, but customers can opt for the seven-inch driver information system (DIS).

Engine Line-up

2012 A6

The engine line-up includes two gasoline engines and three TDI units. The entry level gets a naturally aspirated 2.8 FSI engine that develops 204 HP and achieves 280 Nm of torque. This version will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds, while top speed goes up to 149 mph. The next version gets a 3.0 TFSI engine with 300 HP and 440 Nm of torque. With this engine the A6 will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and reaches an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph).

Diesel line-up starts with a 2.0 TDI engine that develops 177 HP and 380 Nm of torque. This version is a little bit slower: 0 to 60 mph in 8.7 seconds and a top speed of 141.67 mph. There is a also a newly developed 3.0 TDI is represented with two versions. The first one develops 204 HP and 400 NM of torque, while the second one develops 245 HP and 500 Nm of torque.

2013 Changes and Additions

Audi is planning to add in some upgrades to the base level A6 2.0T to make it a little more desirable, according to a report. The first of the additions is an all new transmission. Last year, the base level A6 2.0T only had a CVT available, and for those of us that enjoy driving, a CVT just does not cut it. This year, Audi is adding an eight-speed automatic transmission to the A6’s line of available options.

Even better than getting a new transmission, the second addition is going to be the availability of Audi’s Quattro system on the 2013 A6 2.0T. Last year, the only model that had the Quattro system available was the A6 3.0. So, now you can get you AWD and not have to deal with the 19 mpg that the supercharged 3.0-liter engine leaves you with.

With the launch of the new Audi A6, there will be a real battle between German luxury sedans: BMW has the 5-Series and Mercedes has theE-Class. The BMW 5-Series line-up will range from the fuel efficient BMW 520d making 184 HP, the 535i powered BMW TwinPower Turbo using High Precision Injection and VALVETRONIC variable valve timing that cranks out 306 HP as well as the top of the line 550i powered by a 407 HP eight cylinder engine; just to name a few.

The E-Class is powered by a range of four, six and eight-cylinder units with outputs from 136 hp to 525 hp. The line-up includes: E 250 CDI with 204 hp and 500 NM, E 220 CDI with 170 hp and the E 200 CDI with 136 hp, E 350 CDI with an output of 231 hp. The petrol engines are: E 200 CGI (184 hp) and E 250 CGI (292 hp) are equipped with the newly developed 1,8 liter four-cylinder engine. The top of the line is the E500 with an output of 388 hp.

And of course that all the three sedan offers a high amount of luxury and technology. Who will win the battle? Depends on how every maker will convince their clients that their model is the best!

I feel sad to say this since Audis were usually conservative though handsome cars they’re all starting to look slightly uglier each time that they come out with a new model.

It looks so exclusive on its precise exterior style and even on its hexagonal front grille. However, I wonder if what will be its interior will look like? I also noticed that its engine is too weak for it.

The design of its headlamps is looking so cool on it! Anyway, unlike you guys, I didn’t find the style of this Audi A6 boring, instead it looks very classy and sophisticated on me. However, I just like either the fact that it is a hybrid car.

Just like Nilde Mazzi, I’m also getting bored on Audi’s platform! Anyway, I still love the fact that it can offer an impressive and very comfortable interior and a nice speed performance.

Even though it is only looked like their other model car, I must say that I’m still impressed on its design, most especially on its cool fog headlamps! smiley However, I don’t like the fact that it is a hybrid vehicle.

To be honest, I’m getting bored on the platform and styling of an Audi car, they are all the same! However, I’m still glad that they always offer an impressive and comfortable interior.

It’s just only like their other car, and I must say that it seems it can’t offer some special features, which make me impressed with it. Anyway, what will be the engine specification of this one?

In spite of having only a simple design, I can say that it still looks so impressive for me because on its striking and very comfortable interior.

Audi A6 had a simple beauty, that I really love the most in its quality, and it’s fuel efficient engine is really quite impressive.

Just like the BMW, Audi doesn’t focus is a single production! I thought this German car manufacturer will only focus in the production of the R-series? Anyway, I was impressed with the speed performance of the car and its styling.

The detailing of the car is quite an impressive production and I guess that’s the reason why it passed the strict compliance of US market. However, it seems that the car is kind of heavy.. I wonder if it’s going to affect the speed performance of the vehicle.

Wow! The car look so decent as ever. The styling was great! It seems that the vehicle had passed the strict regulation of US market. Well, I bet the BMW 5 series would be the tough competitor of this production vehicle.

Oh yes! the engine performance of this car is great but talking on its sale, well, I don’t want to think that its popular in the auto market!

  (553) posted on 06.8.2011

Well, I like design for it perfectly combine the luxury and elegant on this car! I like photo shopped picture of this car for they are already good!

  (410) posted on 05.20.2011

Absolutely right! It look the same with the hybrid version. And I just wonder why
they haven’t made a convertible or Spyder version of this car.

  (577) posted on 05.20.2011

It seems that the aesthetic of this car has no difference with the hybrid version.
And I think they change the engine of this car. BTW, I really don’t consider this car to have a
good power output.

This is definitely another promising car for Audi. The features that they have listed here are really quite attractive. And that new aluminum body will be another attraction.

  (309) posted on 03.17.2011

For me, this one actually looks cool whether or not it has that aluminum body. All the design elements of this car certainly speaks of elegance and beauty.

  (380) posted on 03.17.2011

Come to think of it, fifty grand is indeed a good price for this one. But I have already seen other models that have comparable features, but sell under that mark.

  (302) posted on 03.16.2011

At around fifty grand, this one is actually rather cheap. Which is actually kind of a good thing, considering the features that they are putting into this one.
