ABT Sportsline isn’t bashful about admitting its expertise in developing aftermarket programs for Audi vehicles. It’s actually quite proud of it; often touting itself as the biggest tuner of Audis in the world. That distinction didn’t happen overnight; it took a long time and it was certainly well-earned. If you’re still not believer, then you might want to take a look at the German tuner’s latest Audi program for the RS5.

The RS5 is, by all accounts, the closest thing to a performance powerhouse Audi has aside from the R8. At the very least, the RS5 is the most extreme four-seat sports car Audi has in its cupboard. It’s really the ideal car for ABT Sportsline, and the German tuner certainly didn’t disappoint.

ABT Sportsline’s new program for the RS5 is as comprehensive as it gets. It’s got cosmetic tweaks, aerodynamic upgrades, and performance modifications. The German tuner even threw in a new set of “black magic” wheels for good measure.

Now I’m not an authority in wheels, but something about that “black magic” name makes for a more interesting, if not a little intimidating aftermarket program. Leave it to ABT Sportsline to do just that.

Someday, I want my car to look just like this. In the event it never does, I can still live vicariously through this ABT program, which gave the RS5 a new carbon-fiber front skirt with an AeroFlics system. Not only does it look menacing, it allows for improved air circulation to the engine. The German tuner also installed a host of other carbon-fiber goodies, including the side skirts, the rear skirt, and the attention-grabbing rear wing. Special inserts for the front fenders are also offered, although those were added more for cosmetic purposes.

The interior of the RS5 is subject to customer personalization, which gives owners a chance to dress up their cabins through their own eyes. ABT Sportsline offers a plethora of new details, some of which, like leather and Alcantara, look about as good on the RS5 as they do in any of Audi’s other models.

You can’t leave these bad boys out. There’s a reason why the Audi RS5-R looks like a race car. Actually, there are four big reasons for that, namely ABT Sportsline’s 20-inch ER-F20 wheels that are finished in that “black magic” look. These forged alloy wheels may be enormous, but they are actually very light; each one weighs just 9.3 kg (20.5 pounds) without rubber. Maybe "black magic" is how they were made, not the color.

Underneath the Audi RS5-R’s menacing exterior lies the car’s 4.2-liter, V-8 engine. Using its patented skills in engine tuning, ABT Sportsline’s tuners massaged the powertrain to increase output from its standard 450 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque to 470 horsepower and 324 pound-feet of torque. The added grunt gives the RS5-R the ability to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.3 seconds and to a top speed of 180 mph.

Impressive numbers all around.

Indeed, there are calm, slender heroes that are not considered for what they are made of. Real athletes, however, are carved from a different piece of wood - including biceps, six-pack, and strong Bavarian calves. With the ABT RS5-R, the worldwide biggest car tuner of the Audi and Volkswagen Group has such a world-class athlete in its program that accelerates from 0 to 100 in 4.3 seconds, reaching a top speed of up to 290 km/h.

In order to achieve such a performance, engineers from Bavaria sent the production sports car Audi A5 to the training camp once again so that it now generates 470 hp (346 kW) and 440 Newton metres of torque. “These values speak for themselves”, says CEO Hans-Jürgen Abt, referring to the self-confident body kit of the high-performance coupé. Here, a martial look meets lightweight construction and a host of functional details: So the carbon front skirt with AeroFlics optimizes the airflow. The low side skirts as well as the rear skirt and the striking wing also consist of the high-tech carbon fibre material. Matching the entire ensemble, ABT Sportsline also offers special inserts for the front fenders.

The reason why the RS5-R almost appears like a real racing car is also due to the big
20” ABT rims of type ER-F20 in “black magic” look. Despite of their strong appearance, the lightweight, forged alloy wheels only weigh 9.3 kg each – without the relevant 275/30 ZR20 high-performance tires, of course. But the best thing is yet to come: Because the exhaust system, making a significant contribution to the performance increase, comes in two variants. Apart from the conventional style in serial tail pipe look, an alternative side-pipe variant going out of the left skirt of the vehicle will blow the march. While the brute sound indulges your ears, the gigantic tail pipe is a feast for your eyes.
