LUMMA may not be as popular as ABT, Brabus, or AC Schnitzer, but this German tuning house sure knows how to grab attention. The LUMMA Design team has laid its hands on arguably the most premium-feel SUV available on the market today, the Audi Q8, and has gone berserk with it. The bold exterior design that the team has given to this rather smart-looking SUV will definitely draw polarizing opinions. Under the CLR 8S moniker, LUMMA has recreated this flagship SUV from the ‘Lord of the Rings’ in a way that is making it difficult for us to comprehend. Do we like it? Definitely not. Do we hate it? Well, let’s talk about that.

What Makes the Lumma CLR 8S Different From the Stock Audi Q8?

Upfront, LUMMA has retained the big mouth with wide, square teeth, the supposed fog lamp housings, as well as the headlight surrounds. The logo is blacked out, but still visible quite easily. All the difference starts below this. The aftermarket tuner has installed a new front spoiler lip and air intake surrounds with air intakes for the wheel arches as well. Personally, I find this outrageous. We are talking about a premium brand’s flagship SUV here; not some Daewoo Matiz where you can slap anything you feel like just to turn heads on the road. The hood is fitted with a massive black power dome that looks like the work of a teenager with a bad taste in customizing. Was it needed? I’d say no. But, if LUMMA’s intention was to garner attention, then it has passed with flying colors.

The side is comparatively subtler. The skirting is given the red treatment here as well. The LUMMA CLR 8S is offered with two options of wheel designs, in two different sizes – 22- and 24-inch. I have to admit, they look quite tasteful, and, surprisingly, have been designed in-house. The 22-inch LUMMA CLR 22 LX wheels feature brushed “V” spokes and are wrapped in 285/40 rubber in the front and 325/35 in the rear. The LUMMA CLR 24 RS wheels, meanwhile, boast a matte-black multi-component design and are wrapped in 295/30 and 355/25 tires in the front and rear, respectively.

If you are someone who prefers a subtle, yet sporty design, you will like the rear of the LUMMA CLR 8S. I wonder why the aftermarket manufacturer did not follow a similar philosophy at the front. Was it designed by two different teams? Anyway, the SUV comes with a rear spoiler at the top of the windshield and an extra lip treated in black below that. The chunky rear apron is equipped with a new rear diffuser with four channels. The quad exhaust pipes are fitted on either side. There is a familiar red strip that looks unnecessary, but matches with the overall hideousness of the bottom of all sides. Overall, the CLR 8S looks the best when viewed from the rear.

You Can Have The Interior and Engine Specs Customized As Per Your Taste

The aftermarket tuner adds that the aerodynamic components for the Audi Q8 are made from high-quality materials that are “Made in Germany” and have the option of being finished in visible carbon fiber. As for the drivetrain bits, the tuner offers performance enhancements on the CLR 8S. The Audi Q8 in stock form comes with a 3.0-liter, six-cylinder engine that makes 335 horses and 369 pound-feet of torque. It can sprint from 0-60 in 5.6 seconds and goes all the way to 130 mph before the speed governor kicks in. Power is sent to all the wheel via the quattro all-wheel-drive system and is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. In Europe, Audi also offers it with a 3.0-liter, V-6 diesel engine that develops 231 horses. So, LUMMA can add steroids to your Q8’s engine if you want it to sprint like a rabid dog.

Final Thoughts

There is no word on the pricing, but you can contact the tuner via its website to get more details. Moreover, you can opt for the accessories seen individually, depending on your liking. My advice: please don’t opt for the power dome on the hood. If I ever see you driving such a thing, I will stop you and sock you in the eye. What are your thoughts on the LUMMA CLR 8S?
