ABT and Audi kind of go together like peanut butter and jelly. Just this year alone, we’ve seen a handful of ABT-tuned Audis, like the bonkers RS6-R Avant, the RS Q8, and the RS6 Avant. Now, ABT has managed to take the Audi Q5 55 TFSIe, one of Audi’s latest plug-in hybrids, and give it a healthy dose of extra grunt that pushes it well beyond its original specification.

The Audi Q5 by ABT Has An Impressive Increase in Power Output

One could argue that Audi is dragging its feet releasing the RS Q5, but there is now a very nice alternative that’ll probably cost you the same amount of cheddar without the wait. I’m talking about the Audi Q5 55 TFSIe by ABT. It is the plug-in hybrid model, with a gasoline engine in the states but a diesel engine over in Europe. That’s an increase of 58 ponies and 37 pound-feet – not bad if we do say so ourselves.

To accomplish the power gain, ABT tweaked the 2.0-liter engine, so it stands to reason that the plug-in hybrid powertrain was left untouched. Unfortunately, ABT didn’t release any type of performance figures, but with the standard 55 TFSIe running to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.3 seconds (not a bad time for a 4,475-pound vehicle), it stands to reason that the extra grunt will get you to the same benchmark in around 5.1 seconds.

If the 55 TFSIe is out of your budget, ABT also has a package for the 50 TFSIe that increases power output by 58 horsepower and 37 pound-feet of torque. That model in base form delivers just 295 ponies and 332 pound-feet, so the end result after the tune comes in at 353 horsepower and 369 pound-feet – just shy of the standard 55 TFSIe. That should be enough to get the Q50 to 62 mph in less than 6.1 seconds.

Back to the Q5 55 TFSIe, there aren’t a lot of exterior or interior enhancements, but it does come standard with a set of custom 20-inch wheels in glossy or matte black with diamond-machined rum flanges. If you want to pay up more, you can opt for LED entrance lights, an aftermarket start/stop button, or even a revised shift knob. Pricing for the ABT upgrade hasn’t been announced yet, so it’s best to reach out to ABT directly if you’re curious about how heavy the tune will hit your wallet.
