There’s no denying that the Audi RS6 Avant is one hell of a beast. With almost 600 horses under the hood, this wagon can hit the 60 mph mark in no time. Such is its popularity that it has even become a popular vehicle amongst tuners.

It didn’t have a presence in the U.S. until now, but the automaker decided to bring it to our shores as well. Earlier this year, the German automaker announced the six-digit pricing for the U.S.-spec RS6 Avant. To make RS6 Avant’s arrival here even special, Audi has announced a limited-edition RS6 Avant “Tribute Edition” that pays homage to the yesteryear RS2 Avant.

The Audi RS2 Avant Is An Icon

Speaking of the RS2 Avant first, this super wagon was built by Audi in collaboration with Porsche between March 1994 and July 1995. It featured a 2.2-liter, five-cylinder engine that made 311 horses and 302 pound-feet of torque. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, the RS2 Avant could sprint to 62 mph from a standstill in just 4.8 seconds. In fact, Autocar even tested it back then and achieved a 0-30 mph time of 1.5 seconds and concluded it to be faster than the McLaren F1! No wonder Audi decided to pay ode to this masterpiece two-and-a-half decades later.

What Makes The Audi RS6 Avant Tribute Edition Special?

The pearl-finish shade will be complemented by black optic accents on the grille, side blades, rear diffuser, and roof rails. Interestingly, the wing mirrors are finished in the body shade and not in black. It rides on 22-inch, five-spoke trapezoid design cast aluminum silver wheels wrapped in summer tires. The brake calipers are painted in red to break the blue-black effect.

On the inside, the Audi RS6 Avant Tribute Edition comes with Valcona S sport seats with blue contrast stitching. It also comes equipped with carbon twill structure inlays for a premium vibe. Furthermore, the Denim Blue stitching pattern also continues on the perforated steering wheel, the RS floor mats, and the leather elements along with the upper and lower dashboard. The lower seat panels on the front seats also receive the same treatment. The other notable features inside the cabin include a Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system, heated rear seats, power soft-closing doors, and a head-up display. It even comes with a Driver Assistance Package, which includes adaptive cruise assist and side assist.

The Audi RS6 Avant Tribute Edition is powered by the standard 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 engine that produces 591 horses and 590 pound-feet of torque. The mill is also equipped with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. Power is sent to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. It features a Sport Exhaust system, the robust grunt of which can be adjusted using the Audi drive select system.

Final Thoughts

The German automaker has priced the RS6 Avant Tribute Edition at $136,800. This is almost $28,000 more than the price of the standard RS6 Avant, which starts at $109,000. Although the company didn’t specify it particularly, the reason behind building just 25 examples of the Tribute Edition could be based on the RS2 Avant’s 25th anniversary this year.
