• 2021 Audi TT Coupé and Roadster bronze selection

New add-on package adds a touch of class to the Audi TT

LISTEN 04:50

The current-generation Audi TT is already long in the tooth, having been around since 2014. While there are talks of a next-generation TT in the pipeline, that model isn’t expected to arrive for at least a few more years. In the meantime, Audi will continue freshening the current TT with a bevy of special edition models, including the new “bronze selection” that’s scheduled to hit European markets in the spring of 2021.

Packing visual upgrades of the burnished chestnut persuasion, the special edition model is available in the coupe and roadster versions of the TT and TTS via a bronze selection package that you can add to the cost of the sports car.

What’s so fancy about the Audi TT bronze selection?

Audi is offering the TT bronze selection in Chronos Gray, Glacier White, and Mythos Black. They’re appealing color options, but none of them come close to resembling bronze. It’s not just the body, too. The TT’s Singleframe honeycomb grille comes with a gloss black treatment for the TT and matte titanium black for the TTS. The two large tailpipes at the back come with chrome-plated trims, and the same holds true for the quad pipes in the TTS.

Fortunately, the rather massive set of 20-inch five V-spoke star wheels are finished in bronze. At the very least, the wheels more than make up for the underwhelming exterior treatment.

The interior, though, is a different story.

This is where Audi’s bronze selection package justifies its value. The color is prominently featured in the cabin, appearing in the center console, air vents, and the seat trims. Opt for the Sport Seats Plus and Audi will throw in copper contrast stitching. Prospective buyers of the package will also get a Bang & Olufsen sound system.

That’s the extent of the contents of Audi’s bronze selection package. It’s not as fanciful as we thought it’d be, but at this point, anything that resembles something different is good news for the Audi TT and TTS.

Should we expect any upgrades to the TT’s engine?

No, you shouldn’t. It’s well established that special edition models that center around optional packages don’t include engine upgrades. That’s been the case for a long time, and it’s not going to change anytime soon.

In the absence of any work done on the TT’s 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four-cylinder engine, the unit’s output remains at 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

A six-speed dual-clutch transmission transfers the power to all four wheels courtesy of Audi’s iconic quattro all-wheel drive system. As a result, the TT is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds before peaking at a top speed of 155 mph.

Audi TT specifications
Engine 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four
Horsepower 220 HP
Torque 258 LB-FT
0 to 60 mph 5.7 seconds
Top Speed 155 mph

Audi’s new bronze selection package is also available in the sportier Audi TTS. It’s equipped with the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mill, but the output has been dialed up to produce 288 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. It takes the Audi TT-S only 4.3 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph. The coupe’s top speed still maxes out at 155 mph.

Horsepower 288 HP
Torque 280 LB-FT
0 to 60 mph 4.3 seconds
Top Speed 155 mph

How much does Audi’s bronze selection package cost?

The package’s price depends on the variant of the Audi TT that’s benefitting from it. The bronze collection package adds €6,190 ($7,363) to the cost of the TT and €4,490 ($5,340) to the cost of the TTS. You’ll notice that the prices are in euros, and there’s good reason for that. The Audi TT bronze selection is — so far, at least — an exclusive European release. Audi hasn’t said if the package will head to the U.S. market, but it did indicate that deliveries of the special edition TT will start in the spring of 2021. Pricing for the Audi TT starts at around €37,000, or around $4,000 based on current exchange rates

Final Thoughts

I’m a big fan of bronze and its application to certain objects, including sports cars of the Audi TT’s ilk. Unfortunately, Audi’s bronze selection package for the TT falls in one very important category: it’s not really all that bronzey. Sure, the wheels are bronze-painted and the interior comes with plenty of bronze treatment in the form of trim, stitching, or accents. But if you’re going to make an add-on package for the Audi TT with "bronze" in its name, it’s probably a good idea to offer a bronze exterior color scheme or at least something close to it. That didn’t happen, and, quite frankly, it’s hard to understand why.

  • Leave it
    • No bronze exterior color option
    • Availability could be a problem
    • No engine upgrades

Kirby’s first exposure into the world of automobiles happened when he caught Knight Rider on television as a five-year old boy. David Hasselhoff didn’t leave much of an impression on him (that happened later on in Baywatch), but KITT certainly did. To this day, Kirby remains convinced that he will one day own a car with the same ‘spirit’ as the original KITT (not the 2008 monstrosity). He doesn't know when that will be, but until then, he’s committed to expressing his love for KITT, and all cars for that matter, here at TopSpeed.  Read full bio

A further design highlight will expand the attractive portfolio in the second quarter: The “bronze selection” special model is an offer from Audi Sport GmbH that will be available for both the Audi TT and the Audi TTS

. True to the name, the elements of the seat trims, center console, and air vents in the interior feature a fine paint finish, bronze, and copper contrasting stitching adorns the sport seats plus. The choice of colors for the body includes chronos gray, glacier white, and mythos black, which match the elegant bronze hue of the 20-inch wheels with their 5-V-spoke star design. The wrapped Audi rings in the same color on the side sills catch the eye.

In addition to LED headlights and rear lights, a B&O sound system, inlays in aluminum drift, and an expanded leather package with contrasting stitching also come as standard. Two large round tailpipes with chrome-plated trims on the right and left give the rear end a striking appearance. The sporty rear of the TTS features the familiar two dual tailpipes. The honeycomb grille of the Singleframe grille is painted in gloss black for the TT and matte titanium black for the TTS.
