Over the years, the S series from Audi has be a consumer favorite, that’s to its mid-level performance and opulence. Overview.

The 2022 Audi S4 is a straight-up carryover variant of the outgoing model year and is still attractive in many ways including interior opulence and real-world performance. The S4 is powered by a 3.0-liter V-6 engine like the outgoing generation and has been producing the same power figures since the 2020 model year. The Quattro all-wheel-drive system with a limited-slip differential makes handling a piece of cake for the present S4. The interior is quite familiar to the outgoing model year but the aluminum trim has been replaced with a few faux carbon-fiber interior inlays that elevate its sporty look. Well, the 2022 S4 is a lowkey performance sedan, especially for the mature crowd.

Trims and Features.

The Audi S4 is offered in three trim levels – Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. All the trims are powered by the same powertrain and drives through all four wheels as standard. The base Premium trim starts at $50,500 and features quite a decent amount of opulence and electronics. The seats are leather-wrapped and power-adjustable up to 8-levels with power lumbar support. Exterior Design.

As a modern-day Audi, the new 2022 S4 looks pretty aggressive, but it hasn't changed since the 2020 facelift. The exterior of the S4 is mainly set apart by the aluminum treatment in the front and rear. That said, the matrix-styled LED headlamps and DRLs still look sharper and more unique than the competition. The intake grille is honeycomb-style mesh design and is quite large. Powertrain and Performance.

The engine has been in Audi’s lineup for a while and is paired with an eight-speed shiftable automatic transmission. Power is routed to all four wheels via the Quattro all-wheel-drive system. All these numbers are quite ensuring for decent real-world performance. The engine power figures are not like the AMG C 43 Sedan and the M340i but are fairly quick. Most importantly, the engine refinement and responsiveness are top-notch. There is no lag when accelerating hard and, according to Car & Driver in 2018, the transmission provides lightning quick shifts but does lag just a bit when shifting with the steering-wheel-mounted paddles.The 0-60 miles per hour comes in 4.4 seconds and it takes about 12.8 seconds to complete a standing quarter-mile.

Handling and Braking.

The driving impressions of the 2022 Audi S4 are quite similar to the outgoing model year which means that it is still not the sharpest in the handling department like a similarly spec-ed Merc. The steering offers decent feedback and is very accurate in taking sharp turns. The suspension on offer is slightly on the stiffer but not as much as its competitors, making the ride quality a bit better in most conditions. It does a decent job in the handling but what about the brakes? Well, the rotors are quite big at 13.8 inches at the front and 13 inches at the rear. Coupled with a curb weight of 3,847 pounds, the 2022 S4 comes to a stop from 70 miles an hour in 162 feet which is not the best but does quite a decent job.

Fuel Economy.

The twin-turbo V6 engine inside the 2022 S4 does deliver punchy performance but not as much as the rivals, and that has given the sedan a slight edge in terms of fuel economy. The EPA estimates that the 2022 Audi S4, like the outgoing model year, will deliver 21 miles per gallon in the city, a whopping 30 miles per gallon on the highway, and a combined economy of 24 miles per gallon. Although, these numbers can be hit only when the car will run in ideal conditions and could be even better. How Good Is The Interior?

The interior won’t surprise you as it has been largely unchanged since 2017. That said, the cabin is still a good place to be in and comes with a host of features and opulence. The dashboard has a soft-touch feel and is beautifully crafted, and the 10.1-inch infotainment display is standard. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is offered on higher trim levels. The screen offers a lot to customize and displays many pieces of information including navigation.
