The 2018 Audi PB18 E-Tron Concept Will Go Into Production After All - The Number to Be Built Will Blow your Mind

The 2018 Audi PB18 E-Tron Wasn’t Meant for Produciton But It’s Going to Happen Anyway

Hold on to whatever it is you’re holding to, folks, because an Audi executive has reportedly confirmed the German automaker’s plan to produce the all-electric PB18 e-tron supercar that we first laid our eyes on at the 2018 Monterey Car Week last August. The mind-blowing electric supercar concept took Monterey by storm, and if reports are true, Audi will build 50 units of the 671-horsepower model. No timetable was mentioned on when we’ll see the production model, but that’s a concern for another time. The important thing is that there’s some momentum within Audi calling for the PB18 e-tron Concept to spawn a production model. That’s more than enough for us to start salivating over what we can expect out of the supercar when that day actually comes.

This Audi Christmas Ad Is The Best Thing You’ll Watch This Holiday Season

Let’s watch this ad while getting an egg-nog moustache!

Christmas is almost here, and automakers are rolling out holiday-themed commercials for the public. Although the main motive is to market the brand and the cars (obviously!), there are a few commercials which we remember for much longer. One such commercial, which is one of my all-time favorites, is this one by Audi for Christmas 2017 that features the RS3 and the RS7.

Tesla powertrain and batteries completely transform this Audi RS5

It’s quite a trick build as the RS5 retains the original Quattro all-wheel drive system

The Audi RS5, built between 2010 and 2015, was powered by a screaming, high-revving, V-8 engine and was widely acknowledged as being one of the best of its kind. However, what do you do when your car doesn’t have an engine or its engine is junk and you need to replace it with something else? How about you slot in a Tesla motor and battery pack to see how that transforms the car.

Wallpaper of the Day: 2019 Audi R8

The Audi R8, aka the poor man’s Lamborghini, is only a few years old, but Audi decided to give it a thorough update for the 2019 model year. Unfortunately, what we thought was going to be a GT model was actually nothing more than the facelifted model that you see here. The good news, however, is that the standard model is now more aggressive than ever. Adding icing to that so delicious cake is that fact that it comes with some extra oomph to justify that extra aggression. How much? Only 30 horsepower, but that’s enough. Now, every trim can blast past the 200-mph threshold, and it can hit 62 mph in as fast as 3.1 seconds. Today, however, that performance doesn’t matter, because we’re here to honor the R8’s beautiful appearance. To do that, we’ve decided to pick out our favorite wallpaper and share it with you. If you don’t like it, there are a few more in the gallery below. Remember, if you want to know more, you can check out our in-depth review of the 2019 Audi R8 as well!

2019 Audi R8

2019 Audi R8

The ultimate road-going R8?

Introduced in 2015, the second-generation Audi R8 was facelifted for the 2019 model year. The mid-cycle upgrade arrived rather soon, suggesting that the supercar might be redesigned in three years or so. The facelift brought a sportier exterior, a mildly altered interior, and important changes under the hood. Likewise, the R8 V10 Plus model was renamed the V10 Performance.

Sharing 50 percent of components with the R8 LMS GT3 race car shown at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, the revised R8 looks more aggressive than ever. It’s also significantly more powerful than before, with up to 30 horsepower added to the 5.2-liter V-10 engine. It’s also the first R8 to surpass 200 mph in every trim, including Spyder models. Although it was originally believed that Audi might add a new GT model to the lineup, the sportier car spotted testing in Europe turned out to be just the regular facelift. Let’s find out more about all of that in the review below.

The Audi R8 set to stick with V-10 power

The Audi R8 set to stick with V-10 power

No, you won’t see a budget R8 with a V-6 anytime soon

After years of rumors regarding an entry-level R8 model fitted with a smaller turbocharged engine, we now know for a fact that Audi’s fledging supercar will only be available with the naturally-aspirated V-10 that we’re all familiar with.

Ever since a leaked image supposedly showcasing Audi’s release schedule over the next couple of years hit the internet, people have been talking about the possibility of a more affordable model to complete the range. Since the arrival of the second-generation R8, back in 2015, Audi dropped the V-8 engine option the R8 originally had at its core.

Now, with most manufacturers choosing forced induction to minimize the size of their engines and the number of cylinders, the R8 would have been a likely suspect of receiving this treatment in the near future.

Will Smith Is About to Get Jiggy With Audi’s First Animated Concept, the RSQ e-tron

The Audi RSQ e-tron is the second RSQ To Appear On The Big Screen

After the PB18 E-Tron, no one really expected Audi to reveal a new supersport car. Yet, it did - the Audi RSQ e-tron. It’s animated, though. Like, cartoon type of thing “animated.” Designed in conjunction with Fox, the new Audi RSQ e-tron is bound to appear in the next animated movie Spies in Disguise, starring none other than Will Smith. As many of you may recall, this is not the first time for Audi and Will Smith to appear together on the big screen. The actor had that astonishing futuristic autonomous Audi for the movie I, Robot. Obviously, right now, the driving part isn’t really possible.

An Audi R8 Was Literally Ripped in Half After Colliding with a Volkswagen Van

Audis aren’t supposed to break in half like this

In what can be considered as one of the most unnerving car crashes we’ve seen in recent history, an Audi R8 was violently cut in half after a massive crash with a Volkswagen van in northern Italy near the Austrian border over the weekend. It’s unclear as to how the crash came about, but photos from the scene of the crash show a wet road, suggesting that the driver of the R8 may have lost control of the supercar before colliding with the Volkswagen van. Fortunately, both the driver of the R8 and the driver of the VW van escaped the ordeal without any major injuries.

Audi’s New Facelifted R8 Is Coming And It May Bring A Lot Of Novelties

Next-Gen Audi Supercar Could be an All-Electric, 1,000-Horsepower Monster

Next-Gen Audi Supercar Could be an All-Electric, 1,000-Horsepower Monster

It won’t be a third-gen R8, but the name could stick around for this model

The arrival of the Audi PB18 E-Tron has opened the floodgates on surrounding the R8’s future. The latest whispers indicate that while the R8 will not return for a third generation, the name will soldier on as part of an all-electric supercar that will have as much as 1,000 horsepower at its disposal. There’s no timetable for the electric supercar’s release as the current R8 is just about to start its mid-cycle refresh. If the R8 E-Tron happens “again,” it’s unlikely to arrive at least until the next decade, possibly around 2022.

This Is How The Audi PB18 e-tron Compares To The Audi R8 V-10 Plus

This Is How The Audi PB18 e-tron Compares To The Audi R8 V-10 Plus

Two different ideologies

It is almost impossible to compare the new Audi PB18 e-tron and the R8 V-10 Plus. While taking the shape of supercars, the Audi R8 V-10 Plus and the new Audi PB18 e-tron are different on so many levels I find it rather amusing to see where Audi is going with its e-tron and sports car program. Nevertheless, revealing the Audi PB18 e-tron at the Monterey Car Week, Audi held a long said promise of developing a super fast electric supercar. I will go one step further here and say that PB18 e-tron, if it ever reaches production heaven, will be a supercar at the very least. Currently, Audi provides a whole set of sports machines from the S and the RS line of cars. Yet, the only one to even touch the majesty of the PB18 e-tron is the Audi R8 V-10 Plus. Of course, only the most powerful version as the PB18 is plainly mad.

Let me get something off my chest right away - PB in the PB18 e-tron actually stands for Pebble Beach. It is like a specially dedicated concept crafted only for the event. The 18, on the other hand, is from the Audi LMP1 racer - the R18 e-tron. Nicely tied Audi. Well played.

Now, we can definitely call the latest Audi R8 V-10 Plus a supercar. After all, it takes all the tech from the likes of the Huracan, and that is a supercar. The PB18 e-tron, on the other hand, is an even more extreme representation of the supercar ideology. One based on electricity and torque delivery that no V-10 can ever achieve.

Check Out This Audi S5 With Tesla Model S Power

Could this be a peak into the future of all-electric Audis?

Audi still doesn’t have an electric car — the R8 e-Tron doesn’t count — on the market, but that hasn’t stopped the aftermarket world from beating the German automaker to the punch. The Audi in question here is the S5, but it’s not really a factory unit, anymore. That’s because this S5 is now powered by the electric powertrain of a Tesla Model S donor car. This Audi S5 is now an electric car after undergoing a full EV conversion at the hands of noted New Jersey-based EV tuner, POLYKUP.

If this is a sign of Audi’s future, then sign us up for it

In a world where the term “concept car” has been overused to some extent, Audi jolted some life back to the phrase with the PB18 e-Tron Concept. The fascinating prototype made its debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, blending form with a number of functions, packaged in a dynamic design that’s unlike anything we’ve ever seen from Audi. Best of all, at least for snobs of the autonomous technology movement, the PB18 e-Tron Concept gives the driver full control of the vehicle with no hints of autonomous tech assistance.

Audi PB18 e-tron concept car makes debut in Pebble Beach

A replacement for the R8 e-tron?

Audi may have abandoned endurance racing and retired its R18 race car, but it’s still hooked on developing motorsport technology. The PB18 e-Tron, which was just unveiled at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, is proof of that. It’s described as "a radical vision for the high-performance sports car of tomorrow" and looks unlike any other Audi out there.
