2020 Audi SQ3 / RS Q3
Audi first kicked off production of the Q3 luxury subcompact crossover in 2011 for the 2012 model year, following it up with a series of refreshes in 2014 and 2015. Also offered as a pair of tuned versions from Audi Sport GmbH under the SQ3 and RS Q3 nomenclature, it looks as though the Four Rings is gearing up to release a second generation for the go-faster Q3’s, as evidenced by this series of spy shots showing a black-and-white test mule out and about for some apex huntin’ at the Nurburgring.

2019 Audi Q3
Audi first produced the Q3 compact crossover in 2011, but didn’t bring it stateside until after a refresh for the2015 model year. Since its star-spangled arrival, the luxury-oriented high-stance five-door has posted strong sales numbers, performing well in a segment fraught with competition. These days, demand for small SUVs continues to grow unabated, which means Audi is giving the Q3 a second-gen update for the 2019 model year. Providing the Q3’s latest styling cues and equipment perks is Audi’s lineup of range-toppers, including the Q8 and the A8, while larger exterior dimensions and a turbocharged engine lineup round it out.

Long ago, Audi was dominating Rallycross events in a Sport Quattro S1. It helped to brand Quattro as one of the best all-wheel drive systems in the world. Several years later, the A8 garnered popularity with its starring role in The Transporter, while the TT earned the attention of passersby who gave themselves whiplash as they took in the unusual design for the time. Since then, the RS4 and R8 eared themselves a spot on many dream lists across the world and more pedestrian Audis like the A4 were eating into BMW’s sales.
The aforementioned are all cars. Today, things are a bit different over at Audi as it seems the priority is to invest more and more into SUVs. In North America, there are already three in the lineup. A fourth, the Q2, is on sale overseas and is expected to eventually arrive on our shores. Then there’s the Q8 which is expected to be even bigger than the Q7 along with a four-door
like SUV a la BMW X6 that is also expected to join the family.
Why are Audi’s SUV’s now overshadowing the cars in its lineup? I decided to take one out for a week to find out.

At this point, there are so many “Black Edition” models floating around that we can’t tell what manufacturer actually fired the first shot. It seems like just about every model out there has a Black Edition of some kind. There’s the 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera Black Edition, The Mazda3 Sport Black Edition, Volkswagen Scirocco Black Edition, Porsche Cayman Black Edition, and Nissan Qashqai Black Edition – just to name a small handful from a very large pool of available models out there. Hell, Even Bentley has done it. Now, Audi is adding to its lineup of “Black Edition” models with this new iteration of the Q3. As usual, the model comes with just a few “upgrades” that include some black interior trim and a few exterior pieces done up in black as well.
It’s really like one manufacturer decided to do a Black Edition and everybody else decided to jump off the same bridge. Just like the use of Alcantara. It was once something that was once cool and eccentric but is now just boring and overplayed. As such, Audi is actually replacing the S Plus Model with the Black Edition in its lineup, which means most of the features the model is boasting, were already there to begin with. This includes things like SD card-based navigation, cruised control, privacy glass, and black interior that, of course, has some Alcantara mixed in too.
So, with that said, let’s take a closer look at the new Q3 Black Edition and see if there’s really any hype worth writing home about.

2017 - 2018 Audi Q3
The Audi Q3 is the German brand’s tall-stance, compact-fitting crossover product, which has been around since 2011. Prior to the introduction of the Audi Q2 at the Geneva Motor Show back in March, the Q3 was Audi’s smallest
style offering. These days, the Q3 is looking like it should be getting a second generation, but before it does, Audi has decided to keep the old five-door fresh by way of new aesthetic upgrades and a new special edition model. All the bits under the skin have been unaltered, but outside, you’ll find sportier trim, new wheels, and a few other bits and bobs added. On the new special edition, the cabin has been updated as well.
The new special edition is called the S line competition, which joins trim levels like the Design and Sport trim as the top-dog kit. Plenty of folks are holding out to see what the second-generation might bring, but for those who simply can’t wait, the updated Audi Q3 might offer just the right style to justify a purchase.

2016 Audi Q3 Connected Mobility Concept
SUVs have been a big hit at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show as automakers from all over the world have been doing their part in trying to impress what is arguably the biggest SUV market in business. Audi was one of the companies that presented an SUV at the event, but instead of trying to showcase a new concept that previews a future model, it went an entirely different route by showcasing a new concept that previews new possibilities in an existing model. The concept is called the Q3 Connected Mobility and while it doesn’t look like a traditional concept vehicle, it does come with an electrically-powered multifunctional longboard that’s stored neatly under the boot of the crossover.
According to Audi, the Q3 Connected Mobility concept “offers sporty and multifunctional mobility for metropolises with millions of residents.” Considering its rather quirky but otherwise effective feature, I’d say that the German automaker nailed its description for the entire concept. See, the objective of this particular concept isn’t so much about showcasing the capabilities of the Q3.It’s actually all about that longboard, which functions as an alternative mode of transportation in the event driving the Q3 around busy urban cities becomes a hassle. Certain situations do lend to longboards becoming more efficient forms of transportation and that’s exactly what the Q3 Connected Mobility concept is trying to highlight.
The way that Audi managed to integrate it into the Q3 is impressive enough in and of itself. But there’s more to this concept than just having its own longboard. The Q3 Connected Mobility also takes its name to heart, incorporating all these new technologies into one car with the intention of possibility seeing it come to life in the future. That future may or may not include a longboard, but for what it’s worth, the way Audi packaged the concept kind of makes me think that such a feature actually looks great on paper.

2017 Audi RS Q3 Performance
When it comes to the Audi Q3, two big things happened for the 2015 model year. The first was a refresh that gave the car a sportier look with mild changes to the front end. In addition to the mild facelift, Audi also brought the Q3 to U.S. shores for the first time. Of course, we didn’t get the plethora of engines available in other markets, but hey, at least we got the Q3. Now that we’re slowly crossing days off the 2016 calendar, Audi has dropped the news that a performance variant of the RS Q3 – called the Audi RS Q3 Performance – is in the works and will make its debut at the Geneva Auto Show in March of 2016.
Naturally, the performance-minded RS Q3 will take on some significant changes to differentiate it from the standard RS Q3. There will be minor changes to the exterior, as well as some significant changes to the interior. In addition to that, a performance-optimized engine and chassis come together to make this little crossover something that dreams are made of.
So far, the RS Q3 Performance has only been given a European emissions classification (Euro 6,) so it doesn’t look like it is coming to the States anytime soon. Hopefully, that will change in the future but, until it does, let’s take a look at what our neighbors on the other side of the drink can expect from the Audi RS Q3 Performance.

First unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, the Audi RS Q3 has developed quite a nice following over in Europe. I wish I could say the same thing here in the US, but since it’s not available in this part of the world, any form of chest-beating for the high-powered crossover would be irrelevant.
Audi seems to be perfectly happy with the reception the RS Q3 has received across the Atlantic and customers in that area are just as happy knowing that German tuner ABT Sportsline has just unveiled a tuning kit for the high-powered Q3 crossover.
The kit is typical ABT Sportsline. No flash, all substance. Sure, it has some decal stripes to add some flavor to the RS Q3’s appearance, but everything else included in the kit is there for the purpose of improving the crossover’s performance and handling capabilities. The engine upgrade, in particular, is impressive. Same thing with the suspension modifications that resulted in a lower and wider stance for the RS Q3.
There’s a lot to like about this new kit for the RS Q3. The fact that it comes from ABT Sportsline is probably the least surprising thing about it.

For the European market, the Audi Q3 was unveiled in 2011 after being previewed by the Cross Coupe quattro concept at the 2007 Shanghai Motor Show. Now it’s our turn, as Audi decided to release it for the 2015 model year.
With the incredible success the Q5 and the Q7 are already enjoying and the increased demand for compact SUVs in the U.S., it is really no surprise to see the Q3 on American soil. The Q3 is expected to be an even more successful model, thanks to its combination of a coupe-like look with the utility of a SUV and the usual features offered by an Audi SUV — "utility, technology, craftsmanship and performance."
The 2015 Audi Q3 will be unveiled at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show and will be put on sale in the fall of 2014. Prices will be announced at a later date.

MTM Tuning presented its own program for the Audi RS Q3 a few weeks ago, and it was an impressive kit that played into the strengths of the German crossover. We applauded MTM then for its work not knowing that another noted German tuner was on its way to revealing its own program for the RS Q3. Enter ABT Sportsline, the same company that has made it a mission to improve every Audi model, using the sophisticated science of customization.
ABT Sportsline’s program for the RS Q3 doesn’t lack anything. Really, every aspect of the crossover was taken care of. Whether it’s the improved output numbers or the new set of 21-inch wheels, the German tuner didn’t leave any stone unturned on its way to decking out the RS Q3.
We’re not surprised by the things ABT Sportsline does. When it comes to versatile kits that offer a blend of everything, this tuner knows what it’s doing. That’s the case here with the Audi RS Q3, a sporty crossover that demands our attention. ABT Sportsline gave it that, and a whole lot more.

The Audi Q5 and Q7 understandably get all the love among Audi’s roster of crossovers and SUVs. But let’s not forget about the Q3. This little brother got some spunk and it definitely deserves a path on the back, or in the case of German tuner MTM, a dedicated aftermarket program.
We’re all familiar with Audi’s packaging of the Q3. It’s an economic crossover that has plenty of sweet features combined with Audi’s fabulous technical engineering. Then there’s the RS Q3 - the subject of this program - that breathes a little more fire as a more performance-oriented model of the Q3. But still, even something "good" has a chance to be "better", and that’s what MTM set out to accomplish with its new tuning kit for the RS Q3 2.5 TFSI quattro.
As a performance-heavy update, MTM is charging quite a lot for this program. The cost of the engine tune is €3,357, which is about $4,500 based on current exchange rates. Meanwhile, the new exhaust system and the carbon fiber rear diffuser will set you back €4,699, right around $6,400.
Then again, you can just opt for getting everything, car and tuning kit together. For that, you’re gonna have to pay €76,650, or about $104,150 in American money.
That might be a steep a price to pay, but what you can get out of it is pretty awesome in its own right.

The Audi Q3 is currently Audi’s smallest crossover. Based on the Volkswagen Tiguan and debuting for the 2012 model year, the Q3 made a splash with three TFSi gasoline engines and three TDI diesel engines for consumption in world markets. Now for 2015, Audi is finally bringing the Q3 stateside, though it will only be offered with its range-topping 2.0-liter TFSI turbocharged four-cylinder making 200 horsepower. Of course Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system will be optional, sending power to all four wheels for better handling. Those Q3s without quattro will be front-wheel-drive. A six-speed automatic transmission will be the only option for those wanting to buy a U.S.-spec Q3.
Audi is also revamping its Q3 for 2015 with a revised exterior look that is far more edgy and sporty than before, along with. Active suspension dampers are now present with driver-selectable modes for a tailored feel. Those outside the U.S. will enjoy the added power Audi gave the RS Q3, boosting its 2.5-liter turbocharged inline five-cylinder an extra 30 horsepower and 22 pound-feet of torque, giving it a total of 340 horses and 332 pound-feet.
Aimed directly at the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, the Audi Q3 offers pint sized SUV functionality in a somewhat sporty package that’s easy to park.
