Just like every other automaker, Bentley is also on the path of electrification. In fact, the company has ambitious plans to go all-electric by 2030. Taking its next step towards this paradigm shift, Bentley announced its second hybrid model – the Flying Spur Hybrid. The Flying Spur Hybrid features a V-6 engine paired to an electric motor that puts out over 530 horses combined. It even offers an electric-only range of 25 miles. There’s no word on the pricing yet, but the car will arrive Stateside by the end of 2021.

What’s Special About The Flying Spur Hybrid’s Drivetrain?

Bentley’s ‘Beyond100’ strategy to go carbon neutral takes the next step in the form of the Flying Spur Hybrid. Based on the third-gen Flying Spur, the car comes with a 2.9-liter, twin-turbo V-6 engine and an electric motor. Power will be sent to all the wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The V-6 engine churns out 410 horses and 406 pound-feet of torque, whereas the electric motor complements it by adding another 134 horses and 295 pound-feet of torque.

Together, they crank out 536 ponies and 553 pound-feet of twist. This is 93 horses and 37 pound-feet of torque more than the Bentley Bentayga Hybrid. The electric motor is powered by a 14.1 kWh battery that takes roughly around 2.5 hours to recuperate. This is smaller than the Bentayga Hybrid’s 17.3 kWh battery. A Bentley branded wallbox available as a no-cost option here.

The car will come with three E-drive modes as well - EV Drive, Hybrid Mode, and Hold Mode. The EV Drive is an electric-only mode that is engaged by default when you fire up the car. The Hybrid Mode makes use of navigation to ensure the car is at its efficient best throughout your journey. The Hold Mode is engaged by default when switch to ‘Sport’ mode and tries to retain maximum battery charge so it can be used later on.

Flying Spur Hybrid Range and Performance

The automaker also noted that the Flying Spur Hybrid is the most efficient Bentley ever as it can cover over 435 miles on a full tank. This is despite having a 21-gallon fuel tank, which is smaller than the 23.78-gallon tank on the V-8 and W-12 models. When driven sedately, the Flying Spur Hybrid can deliver up to 25 miles of pure electric range. But, we’ll wait for the EPA-estimated range, which could hover around the 20-mile mark. Still not too bad for inter-city commutes.

The Flying Spur Hybrid can sprint to 60 mph from rest in 4.1 seconds, and to 62 mph in 4.3 seconds. This is almost on par with the standard Flying Spur V-8, which takes four seconds to 60 mph. The top speed, however, is rated at 177 mph, which is much lesser than its internal combustion-engined counterpart’s 198 mph.

How Is The Flying Spur Hybrid On The Outside?

At the onset, things aren’t a whole lot different on the outside when compared to the other Flying Spur models. The main differences include a ‘Hybrid’ badge mounted on the lower front fender, quad-oval tailpipes peeping out of the derriere, and a charging point on the left rear fender. Bentley offers seven different wheel designs, ranging from 20- to 22 inches.

Believe it or not, the Flying Spur Hybrid comes with a huge color palette. This includes:

-* Nine shades of Black

-* Nine shades of Green

-* 11 shades of Red and Purple

-* 13 shades of White and Beige

-* 14 shades of Gold, Orange, and Brown

-* 14 shades of Silver

-* 19 shades of Blues

For those of you lazy to do the math, that's 89 different exterior shades!

There is no difference in the dimensions whatsoever when compared to the W-12 and V-8 Flying Spurs. It measures 209.3 inches in length, 87.4 inches in width, and 58.4 inches in height. The wheelbase is 125.8 inches long.

The cargo space, however, takes a hit. The Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid offers 12 cubic feet of cargo, which is 2.8 cubic feet less than what the fuel-powered models offer.

How Is The Flying Spur Hybrid On The Inside?

Such uber-luxury brands are all about customization and personalization. But, some of the standard features include:

-* 12.3-inch infotainment system

-* 10-speaker audio system

-* Top-view camera

-* Pedestrian Warning

-* Park Assist

The drive and battery-related data are displayed on the instrument cluster, infotainment system, and head-up display.

The levels of customization inside the cabin are as vast as you can expect them to be. There are three upholstery designs to choose from, that further branch out into numerous combinations between main hide and secondary hide. The same goes with veneers and stitching options, too.

Conclusion

There’s no word on the pricing yet, but we hope to hear soon about it. The Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid, just like the Flying Spur W-12 and the Flying Spur V-8, will be manufactured at the company’s Crewe factory. The first customer deliveries will commence by the end of 2021.
