2020 Bentley Continental GT Convertible Equestrian Edition

There’s exclusive, and then there’s Bentley exclusive

Bentley is adding a new member to its growing lineup of exclusive bespoke creations. The newest addition is called the Continental GTC Equestrian Edition. Limited to just a single unit — yes, there’s only one in the world — the Continental GTC Equestrian Edition makes for a suitable follow-up to the outlandish Bacalar roadster that the boys from Crewe, England unveiled earlier this month. Though not as over-the-top as the Bacalar, the Continental GTC Equestrian Edition is a sultry one-off that draws inspiration from the popular hobby among the rich and famous. It features extraordinary and exclusive details that no other Continental GTC carries, justifying its billing as a true one-of-one creation. The Bentley Continental GTC Equestrian Edition is already spoken for, and, as you might expect, the one-off model was specially commissioned by a client who’s fond of thoroughbreds.

This model is basically dedicated to customers who want an even greater focus on customization and a car that stands out from the pack. Let’s find out what makes it special in the review below.

2019 Bentley Continental GT Convertible Number 1 Edition

2019 Bentley Continental GT Convertible Number 1 Edition

The first special edition for the new Continental GT Convertible is a smasher!

It’s been around eight months since the all-new Bentley Continental GT Convertible made its long-awaited debut. Enough time has passed for all of us to absorb what Bentley’s 626-horsepower, roofless, sporty grand tourer is all about. Enough time has also passed for Bentley to drop the first special edition model for the new Continental GT Convertible. And wouldn’t you know it, this special edition Continental GT Convertible is called…the Number 1 Edition. Lack of naming creativity notwithstanding, there is a reason why this special edition Continental GT Convertible is called the Number 1 Edition. As I mentioned, it’s the first SE variant of the all-new Continental GT Convertible. More than that, it pays tribute to a particular old-school Bentley race car: the legendary 1929 Bentley Number 1 Blower. Forget what I said, then, about this special edition’s nomenclature. Clearly, it means a lot more to Bentley than just a random number.

2019 Bentley Continental GT Pikes Peak #100

2019 Bentley Continental GT Pikes Peak #100

Bentley wants to set a new record on the "Race to the Clouds"

The Bentley Continental GT Pikes Peak #100 is a race car based on the production grand tourer. The Brits developed this vehicle specifically for the 2019 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Bentley aims to break the record for production cars, currently set at 10:26.9 minutes.

The Pikes Peak-spec Continental GT follows in the footsteps of the Bentayga, which set a record for production SUVs at the 2018 race. The Bentayga "climbed" the mountain in 10:49.9 minutes, shaving nearly two minutes of the previous record with an average speed of 66.5 mph. The race-spec Continental GT will be driven by Rhys Millen, a Pikes Peak veteran and a former winner of the "Race to the Clouds."

2019 Bentley Continental GT Number 9 Edition by Mulliner

Bentley and Mulliner pay tribute to 100 years of British automotive excellence

Bentley is celebrating its 100th anniversary at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, and it’s doing it in style with a special edition model called the Continental GT Number 9 Edition by Mulliner. Limited to just 100 units — one for each year of Bentley’s existence — the Continental GT Number 9 Edition is a fitting ode to the automaker’s centenary. More than that, the special edition Continental GT also pays tribute to arguably one of the most famous race cars in history, the legendary — and supercharged — Bentley Blower that Sir Henry Ralph Stanley “Tim” Birkin drove at the 1930 Le Mans 24 Hours. No timetable has been set on when the special edition Continental GT Number 9 Edition goes on sale. Rest assured, though, all 100 units should fly off the shelves faster than it takes the Continental to go from 0 to 60 mph.

Is it good enough to give the S-Class Cabriolet a run for its money?

The third-generation Bentley Continental GTC is the cabriolet version of the coupe that the British firm introduced in 2017. Almost identical to the coupe design-wise, it features a new soft-top system and borrows all of its technology and drivetrain components from the hard-top version.

Heavily inspired by the EXP 10 Speed 6 concept, it looks sportier than before and boasts a longer wheelbase. The redesigned soft-top also turns it into a three-box vehicle when the roof is in place. The new Continental GTC arrives just in time for the upcoming Volante version of the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, but it also competes against the fancier Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet. Let’s find out more about it in the review below.

A Bentley Continental GT Hybrid was Spotted Mixing The Best Of Both Worlds

This PHEV is going to be powerful; very powerful

The electrification process has taken over the world by storm. From smallest of hatches, to the marques, every automaker is electrifying its range. Bentley has been vocal about its electrification ambitions, and plans to offer a hybrid version on all its models. Recently, the Bentley Continental GT was spotted in its Hybrid avatar. Even though it looks just like the regular Continental GT, the additional charging port in the rear left fender was the giveaway.

2019 Bentley Continental GT Speed

2019 Bentley Continental GT Speed

More power, sportier looks

The Bentley Continental GT Speed is a higher performance version of the British grand tourer. Sportier looking and more powerful, it slots between the standard model and the range-topping Supersports. The new-generation GT Speed, based on the latest Conti GT, is scheduled to arrive in 2019 for the 2020 model year.

Launched in 2017, the third-generation Bentley Continental GT is already in dealerships, but the British luxury company has yet to offer all the usual variations, like a base V-8 model and higher-performance models of the W-12-powered coupe. But it seems the wait is nearly over, as the GT Speed was spotted testing on public roads recently. Just like its predecessor, the GT Speed will arrive with slightly sportier looks, a few extras inside the cabin, and a more powerful version of the company’s 6.0-liter W-12 engine.

When the best in luxury gets a first-off-the-line variant

In keeping with its new tradition of rolling out First Edition models — the Bentayga SUV and the Mulsanne each got one — Bentley is rolling out the red carpet for the Continental GT First Edition. Described as the “ultimate expression of the legendary grand tourer,” the Continental GT First Edition gets plenty of exclusive appointments that help earn its status as a true first-off-the-line model.

Since this is Bentley we’re talking about, the phrase “exclusive appointments” take on a far more exclusive and opulent meaning. The features included in the Continental GT First Edition include fancy rotating displays, veneer options, and model-specific cosmetic identifiers that firmly establishes its special edition status. Basically, the Continental GT First Edition is a more exclusive version of an already exclusive luxury coupe.

Bentley didn’t say how many Continental GT First Edition units it plans to roll out, but given its status as a First Edition model, don’t expect it to be available in large quantities. The Bentayga First Edition, for example, was limited to just 608 examples, while the Mulsanne First Edition was even rarer with only 50 units made across its entire three-model range. My best guess is that the Continental GT First Edition will have a volume of around 100 units with each unit priced at around $300,000.

Bentley’s already successful race car gets new-generation upgrades

Bentley has just introduced the third-generation Continental GT, which rides on a new platform (shared with the Porsche Panamera), uses a new W-12 engine, and employs design cues from the EXP 10 Speed 6 concept car. Just like its predecessor, the new Conti GT is set to gain a range of versions, including a V-8-powered and higher performance Speed and Supersports variants. But while these are still under development, the new Continental GT has already made its public debut in motorsport clothes. Meet the second-generation Continental GT3, developed to replace the first-gen race car after four successful years on the race track.

Slated to hit the motorsport scene for the 2018 season, the new Continental GT3 uses the aluminum structure of the road car and most of its design cues. But much like its predecessor, its lighter, tipping the scales at "significantly less" than 2,866 pounds, and features a more aerodynamic body. The new Conti GT3 has big shoes to fill — the first-gen car scored 120 podiums and 45 wins across 528 races — and will attempt to do so starting with the opening round of the 2018 Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup at Monza in April. Meanwhile, let’s have a closer look at what it brings to the table.

2018 Bentley Continental GT

Faster, fancier, and more powerful than ever!

The Bentley Continental GT has been a huge hit for Bentley and Volkswagen AG since its launch in 2003, but the problem is that the car really hasn’t changed that much over the years. Sure, the facelift brought tweaked styling, a new V-8, and reworked interior, but it still takes a keen eye to spot the differences between the first Conti and those built after 2011. It’s likely that a $200,000 grand touring Bentley coupe/convertible wasn’t a huge priority for VW coming out of a global recession, but now with high-end luxury cars back in full swing, Bentley finally unleashed the third-generation Continental GT.

Revealed ahead of the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the new Conti GT confirms what we already knew from spy shots and the Bentayga SUV. The exterior styling is heavily based on the EXP 10 Speed 6 concept, while the interior borrows some of the features and materials seen in the SUV. Bentley also took the new 6.0-liter W-12 that it launched with the Bentayga and dropped it under the Continental’s hood with revised internals and other drivetrain components. All told, the new Continental GT is sportier, quicker, more powerful, and more luxurious than the outgoing model. But more about that in the review below.

2018 Bentley Continental GT Convertible Galene Edition by Mulliner

2018 Bentley Continental GT Convertible Galene Edition by Mulliner

Yet another custom Bentley masterpiece from Mulliner

By now, you would think that Mulliner would have done just about every kind of luxury interpretation imaginable. That is at the heart of its job as Bentley’s in-house personalization division. Over the past few years, we’ve seen Mulliner turn Bentleys into works of pure art and opulence. You’d be surprised, though, how creative this group can get, and no more is that in full display than in its latest project, the Continental GT Convertible Galene Edition.

Yes, Mulliner just finished another limited edition build for Bentley. Yes, it looks amazing. Yes, it takes its name from the Greek goddess of calm seas. And yes, it’s nautically-inspired, right down to the whole treatment in the exterior and interior of the convertible. It says a lot about the Continental GT Convertible Galene’s status as a decadent limited edition that even Princess Yachts, the creators of some of the most expensive yachts in the world, got involved in the project with Mulliner. The styling cues in the exterior and interior are indicative of what Princess Yachts does with its own expensive products, and you can tell by how the whole model turns out that it’s a Bentley that’s ideally suited for a specific clientele. Only 30 units of the Continental GT Convertible Galene Edition will be built, too. That’s hardly a surprise considering the people behind its creation. Luxury begets luxury, and the Continental GT Convertible Galene Edition is a physical embodiment of that.

Bentley Continental 24 Special Edition

Bentley Continental 24 Special Edition

Limited edition Continental Supersports celebrates its involvement in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring

Rolls-Royce may have grabbed the headlines in recent weeks with all the special edition models it’s been unveiling, but rival Bentley is proving itself to be up-to-the-task with the release of its own special edition model. It’s called the Bentley Continental 24 and it’s a tribute to Bentley Motorsport’s entry to the Nürburgring 24 Hours where it hopes to build off of the success it’s had in the last two years since returning to one of the world’s most grueling endurance races.

The special edition Continental is based on the range-topping Supersports variants. While it doesn’t have any engine enhancements to speak of, its status as the fastest model Bentley has ever created more than speaks for itself. So, in the absence of upgrades to its massive 6.0-liter twin-turbo W-12 engine, the defining features of the Continental 24 rests on its exterior and interior where plenty of inspiration was taken from Bentley’s motorsport themes. The car also holds the distinction of being one of the few limited edition models that have its own options to choose from, thus making it even more limited. Bentley also said it plans to cap production of the limited edition Continental 24 coupe to an obvious number of 24 units, with each model fetching a base price of €250,000 or about $280,000 based on current exchange rates.

2018 Bentley Continental GT Supersports

2018 Bentley Continental GT Supersports

The iconic Bentley Supersports returns with more power than ever!

The second-generation Bentley Continental GT arrived in 2011 with a mildly redesigned exterior, a new interior, and upgraded technology. Although it uses the same Volkswagen Group D1 platform (shared with the Phaeton and the Bentley Flying Spur), the second-gen Conti GT gained a revised W-12 engine and a brand-new, twin-turbo V-8. Much like its predecessor, the second-gen Continental GT spawned a number of versions, including V8 and W12 trims, convertibles, the higher-performance GT Speed, a race-spec GT3 model, and a road-going GT3-R. In early 2017, Bentley unveiled the Supersports, a successor to the beefed-up model it first introduced in 2009.

The fact that the Supersports arrived almost six years after the second-generation Continental GT went into production isn’t surprising. The first Supersports was launched by a similar schedule, hitting public roads six years after the standard model and two years before the first generation car was discontinued. With the current luxury two-door set to be replaced by a third-gen car sometime in 2018, the Supersports was once again introduced as the ultimate Continental GT.

Just like its predecessor, the new range-topping coupe is the fastest and most powerful Continental GT released to the date. The same goes for its soft-top sibling, which is only marginally slower from 0 to 60 mph.

"The Supersports name is legendary at Bentley. From the very first Supersports of the 1920s, to the Continental Supersports of 2009 – and now with the third iteration of this iconic model – it is a name which excites, impassions and thrills. Only Bentley could create a car which blends immense performance and unrivalled luxury in this way," said Wolfgang Durheimer, chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors.

2017 Bentley Continental GT V8 S Black Edition

2017 Bentley Continental GT V8 S Black Edition

Another Black Edition Bentley that’s going to make our bank accounts weep

If you’ve ever come across any of Bentley’s Black Edition models, you know that the British luxury car brand spares no expense in dressing them up, right down to seemingly inconsequential details like a 12 o’clock red stripe on the steering wheel. Prepare yourselves then for more Black Edition goodness from Bentley because the automaker has just introduced the latest iteration of that series, only this time, it’s for the Continental GT V8 S.

The vehicle is predictably called the Continental GT V8 S Black Edition and like model from which it’s based on, it’s available in both coupe and convertible body styles. The objective of the Black Edition has always been grounded on creating a sportier look for the Continental GT V8 S. It’s a little more appropriate with this particular model since the GT V8 S is touted as a version of the Continental that’s been tuned for power and performance.

So the Continental GT V8 S Black Edition is essentially a marriage of upgrades meant to give the model a comprehensive lineup of enhancements. If the formula sounds familiar, it’s because Bentley has been doing it for quite some time now and the results, more often than not, have been overwhelmingly positive.

Does the special edition Continental GT V8 S follow in the path created by its Black Edition predecessors? That’s what we’re about to find out, although based on first impressions, I’m confident that this new model won’t have any problems making a name for itself.

2016 Bentley Continental GT V8 S Convertible Orange Flame By Mulliner

2016 Bentley Continental GT V8 S Convertible Orange Flame By Mulliner

Once again, Mulliner has raised the bar for design, luxury, and sophistication

The Bentley Continental is pretty much the epitome of ultra-luxury and performance wrapped into one convenient but expensive package. Bentley managed to build on that perfection and in 2013 released the Continental GT V8 S. Packing a gain of 21 horsepower, a revised suspension system, and relatively impressive fuel economy, the GT V8 S quickly became the object of affection of the wealthiest of the wealthy. Now, Mulliner has upped the ante a little more, this time using something known as Sparkle Carbon.

We’ll talk more about this new material in just a minute, but before we do, let’s talk a little more about things in general. This special edition Continental goes by the name “Orange Flame,” and deservedly so, as one look at it will have you feeling just a little bit warmer inside. Keep in mind; that last phrase comes from someone who is excessively critical of any brand, like Bentley, that uses its name to garner as much money as possible because of its status symbol status in the hierarchy of all things on earth. Needless to say, I’m pretty impressed with this one.

That said, let’s dive on in and cover the important details about this outrageous combination of colors and materials that somehow work together perfectly.

2016 - 2017 Bentley Continental GT Speed

2016 - 2017 Bentley Continental GT Speed

The most powerful Continental ever gets a mild makeover

It’s been only a year since Bentley introduced a mild visual update for the bonkers GT Speed and massaged its W-12 powerplant for an additional 10 ponies, and the Brits have issued yet another upgrade for its fastest production grand tourer ever. Set to bow at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March as a 2016 model, the revised GT Speed is part of an overhaul of the entire GT lineup, as well as the four-door Flying Spur. The GT Speed essentially borrows the visual enhancements that now adorn the standard GT, while receiving unique details that make it stand out as the most quick and powerful member of the GT family.

The mild upgrade brings a few nips and tucks in the cabin as well, likely to keep it fresh until the third-generation model arrives sometime in 2018. Granted, Bentley’s decision to update the Continental GT Speed two years in a row might seem strange, but the new add-ons are the result of the standard Continental’s mid-cycle facelift. Let’s have a closer look at what the GT Speed has in store for the 2016 model year in the detailed review below.

Updated 05/27/2016: Bentley announced prices for the 2017 Continental GT Speed, both coupe and convertible versions. Check the "Prices" section to see how much you will have to pay for it!
