The Bentley Bentayga Now Comes with the Tiniest Little Biometric Safe
As if the Bentley Bentayga isn’t opulent enough on its own, Bentley is throwing in a new feature that’s going to help owners keep their valuables in a secure location. Courtesy of the Mulliner personalization division, Bentayga owners can now avail of a biometric stowage space in the SUV’s center console that can only be opened through capacitive fingerprint sensor technology. Fingerprint technology on the Bentayga? All in a day’s work for Mulliner.
The 2017 Bentley Bentayga comes with a starting price of £160,200 ($248,342) and a list of options that can increase that price to more than £500,000 ($775,100.) There is one option, however, that has to be one of the most expensive in the history of the automobile: the bespoke mechanical Mulliner Tourbillon by Breitling Clock.
The clock can be machined in either rose or white gold, while the face can be black ebony or mother of pearl. The face is also decorated with a total of eight diamond indexes. Due to the clock’s complex mechanical design, it also requires periodic winding, so an automatic winding device is also included. Opting for the Mulliner Tourbillon will set you back a whopping £110,000 ($170,522.)

Almost all of the major car manufacturers are figuring out ways to go to smaller displacement engines with fewer cylinder, yet the same horsepower. This is leading to turbocharged V-6 engines replacing V-8 engines and turbo V-8s replacing V-10s and V-12s. From the looks of things, Bentley is taking a different approach.
According to reports, Bentley is moving toward larger 12-cylinder engines and away from their turbocharged V-8 engines. We’re not sure exactly why Bentley is going this route, as it is opposite of the trend, but that very well may be the only reason. This would give Bentley the exclusivity that it needs to get a leg up on its rival, Rolls Royce.
Then again, maybe Volkswagen has a slew of 6.0-liter W-12 engines left over from its W-12-powered Phaeton, which was cut from the lineup in 2012, and is deciding to fit V-8 Bentleys with this massive hunk of 444-horsepower-producing metal.
Then again, with the Azure T’s 6.8, err, we mean six-and-three-quarter-liter engine pumping out just 450 horsepower and getting 9 mpg, the 12 mpg and 444 ponies that the W-12 pumps out looks tempting. Add a little boost to it to increase the torque from its 406 pound-feet mark and you have an engine that is not only more powerful, but gets better fuel economy than the turbocharged Bentley V-8 engine.
We’ll keep an eye on this and let you know what Bentley’s plans are just as soon as we know what exactly is going on.
Everyone knows by now that Bentley plans to unveil "the world’s most luxurious 4x4" SUV sometime after 2015, but the company has now revealed that it will be the only SUV in the world to feature a W12 engine: "We will be first to use a 12-cylinder petrol engine in a luxury SUV. I like this idea; it makes clear whose car is the boss," said Bentley CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer.
Moreover, the Bentley SUV will be designed in such a manner that it won’t just carry the W12 engine, but a V12 engine as well. And that’s because the company plans to offer a a V12 TDI version of the SUV a few years after its launch. The W12 engine will be a next-generation version of today’s W12 unit used in the Continental family, and the V12 TDI will be a next-generation version of Audi’s 493bhp 6.0-liter V12 TDI currently being in the Q7.
However, don’t expect the new SUV before early 2015: "The production date will be dictated by the cyclicity of models," Dürheimer said. "The Mulsanne came in 2010, then the Continental no more than a year later. The lifespan of a model is usually six to eight years, so the new model will be valuable when we are expecting a lull. The downswing is the time to introduce this SUV."
There’s always a fine line between ultra luxury and just being extravagantly over-the-top. British automaker, Bentley, knows a thing or two about luxury and at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the company showed off exactly what it’s all about with the new executive interior concept for the brand’s flagship model, the Mulsanne.
Turning the Mulsanne into an Apple multimedia connective hub, Bentley went completely bananas in outfitting it with just about every product Apple has on the market these days, save for an actual fruit basket of the doctor’s best friend. There are Apple iPads with Bluetooth keyboards, a Mini Mac in the boot compartment, and an Apple Media Center. The concept interior also carries ’W-Lan’ internet connectivity, and a 15.6" High Definition LED drop-down monitor. There are also two electric-powered, foldable wood veneer picnic tables, an illuminated center console, individual armrests for the rear seats, various new storage areas, and a Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) and audio system.
If your head’s spinning from all the features included in the Executive Interior Concept, you’ll have to sit down, take a deep breath, and keep on reading. They’re not done. The final list of additions for the whole interior concept include a Tibaldi pen, a cooler, a Privacy Telephone handset, and numerous lights set-ups, as well as other ports and connectors.
According to Bentley, the whole set-up takes up to 170 hours, which means that all that hours spent working on the interior will warrant charges that will be beyond absurd. Bentley hasn’t announced how much it will cost, but you only need to read all the elements included to determine that it’s going to cost more than you can afford.
Bentley has currently postponed plans for launching any new model or updates for their current models. Instead, the company is moving forward in the development of a new turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine that will be used for the future models starting next year. Coincidentally, the same engine will be used for the new Audi S6 and RS6.
The new V8 engine will be offered in two different versions: a single-turbo unit with around 415 HP - used for the entry level models - and a twin-turbo version with close to 555 HP for the speedier versions (like the RS6). The new engine will be combined with a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission.
Bentley will unveil the new GTC at the Frankfurt Motor Show where Audi will also bring the S6, but the new V8 engine won’t be revealed until next year, most likely at the Geneva Motor Show.
As previously announced the 2012 Bentley Continental GT will be offered with an all-new 4.0-liter V8 engine starting late 2011. What you may not know is how this new engine will come about. Turns out, Bentley will be developing the V8 with a little help from Audi leaving them fully capable of utilizing this engine for a number of high performance Audi models.
The new 4.0-liter direct-injection engine will come with better fuel consumption and emissions; somewhere around 40% below that of the W12 unit in the car. "We are adapting it four our purposes so that it delivers Bentley driving characteristics [lots of low-to-mid-range torque]," says Brian Gush, Bentley’s director of chassis and powertrain. He would not say whether it is turbocharged, but added: "It does not have a conventional layout."
The current 6.0 liter W12 engine delivers a total of 567 HP and 700 NM of torque. It sprints the car from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and pushes it to a top speed of 198 mph.
Bentley is embarking on a unique trans-atlantic trip to the US with a tour that’s going to cover over 8,000 miles of American soil from Beverly Hills, California all the way to Miami, Florida.
The five-week tour, which is being called the Bentley Heritage Roadshow, will feature a unique collection of classic Bentley parts – over 1,000 of them if you can believe that – that came all the way from the company’s headquarters in Crewe, England. The range of these items will be on display for all Bentley enthusiasts and covers a wide range of items from Bentley, including engine blocks, hard-to-find spare parts, and yes, even owner’s manuals. Apparently, those manuals of those classic Bentley’s are worth a whole lot more than those that come with your HDTVs.
There’s a boatload of items and parts that you can find at the Bentley Heritage Roadshow and if you’re lucky enough to live near an area where the show is going to, you better drop everything you’re doing and grab this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see over 1,000 of these rare and available parts.

While more and more automakers have announced plans to offer diesel engines for their models, Bentley has done the complete opposite by saying that diesel is not something they would offer in the future. Charman and CEO Franz-Josef Paefgen has said that Bentley had found diesel engines impressive, but the company is now saying that with adverse market conditions, like the ones we’re experiencing, the move to diesel is unlikely.
"The forthcoming Euro 6 clean-air regs are likely to pile some big costs on to diesels,” says Bentley powertrain boss Brian Gush. And there’s a strong prejudice against them in the US and Japan, which are key markets for us. The attitude of Chinese buyers is going to have a big effect on cars like ours in future, too, and they are none too keen. Those of us who know diesels can see the benefits, but in large parts of the world the cars just wouldn’t sell."
Next to the familiar 6.0-liter W12 engine, as found in their Continental GT, Bentley will also offer a 4.0 liter V8 engine, but that was the only detail they let out.
It is time to e-mail in those last minute requests to Santa before he breaks camp on Christmas eve, because the British automaker Bentley has just come up with the Zai Bentley Supersport skis. Designed by their Styling Studio in Crewe, these carbon fiber composite skis are guaranteed to live up to the Bentley standard, as far as both performance and aesthetics are concerned. Not to mention that they would make the perfect accompaniment for your ice white Conntinental GT and are the best excuse ever to take the Bentley for this winter’s ski trip.
The skis are handmade and they are made from Zaiira, which is a special composite material that includes carbon fiber, chrome steel and rubber. The ski poles also demonstrate a new technology, ExoGrid, used solely for the first time in the Bentley skis. A unique combination of the materials titan and carbon fabric reduces weight and guarantees high stability, and is currently used for golf shafts. There are only 250 pairs available and they are priced at $9,800 for the set. So if you were a good little boy or girl this year, you might just find something special in the garage next to your Bentley.

Whoever said that Bentley only caters to the old and accomplished surely have lost their minds, yes?
Well, for the most part, that bears some truth. But that hasn’t stopped Bentley from releasing their new line of car accessories, which, curiously enough, includes a wide selection of finely-crafted child seats. And what’s more, buyers also have the option to have Bentley embroider their kid’s name into the seat.
In addition to the amusing child seats, Bentley is also offering self-levelling wheel badges, a jewelled torch that can be charged from the car’s power outlet/cigar lighter, and car covers for a number of Bentley models, including the GTC models, the Series 51 GT, and the Continental Supersports.
Bentley is releasing these items just in time for the holidays, so in the event you know someone who has a Bentley in their garage, you know exactly what to get them for Christmas.
The problem with owning (or at least driving) a Bentley is that people only get to see how wealthy you are when you’re behind the wheel. It’s a problem most of us Bentley owners try to overcome by inserting little points into the conversation like, “Interest rates don’t bother me, my Bentley holds a constant value,” “Have you seen the keys to my Bentley?” or my favorite, “Do you know I own a Bentley?”
But now Bentley has seemed to answer the cries of its more socially shy owners by offering more obvious forms of gross displays of wealth. For the price that lesser people may use as their entire car budget, Bentley is offering two new accessories: a notebook computer and official luggage.
For $19,800, the aptly named Ego company will get you a notebook computer with Microsoft Vista Ultimate software, a 64-bit processor and a 160Gb hard drive. But most importantly the outside of the computer can carry the same leather that comes with the Bentley. So now everyone will know exactly what is the color of the inside of your Bentley.
Because sometimes not everyone in the hotel lobby saw what you pulled up in, exclusive luggage maker Alfred Dunhill now offers a line of Bentley inspired cases. The five pieces available ranging from large suitcase to briefcase will leave no doubt in anyone’s mind your level of refinement, taste or constant need for attention.
