Diesel models are quite a hit in Europe, but in the U.S. market, they have only just begun to gain momentum because people are still learning about them. Despite the relative novelty, it looks like BMW is preparing a diesel invasion in the U.S. market with no less than six new diesel models set to debut by 2014.
Back in June 2012, it was reported that BMW was planning to offer a diesel 7-Series to its U.S. customers, but apparently this won’t be the only model. Next to it, we will also get a 3-Series sedan in the first half of 2013 and a station wagon in the second half. A 5-Series diesel will arrive in the third quarter of 2013 and the X5d at the end of 2013. The 7-Series will be the first diesel to arrive in the first half of 2014 and it will be followed by a X3d.
In terms of powerplants, the 3-Series will likely use the new 130-horsepower, 3-cylinder diesel engine, while the rest of BMW’s diesel lineup will get a six-cylinder diesel engine.
If you own a car like the BMW X5M, you generally don’t ask for any upgrades other than the ones offered by BMW. Imagine our surprise when we discovered an "unhappy" client had gone to Velos Designwerks and asked them to provide any updates possible for the luxury SUV. The tuner responded with a number of exterior and engine updates to create the ultimate SUV.
The upgrading session began with the addition of the Stage 2+ Velos Designwerks performance tune for the standard 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 engine’s fuel maps, throttle maps, ignition maps, and limiters. This upgrade took the standard 555 HP and 501 lb ft of torque and powered it up to 645 HP at 6800 rpm and 631 lb-ft of torque at 3500 rpm. The tuner then added a new exhaust system with Akra Downpipes. Stage 2 options are also available for vehicles fitted with full exhaust and downpipes for off-road use. The best part about this engine upgrade is that it will only set customers back $1,500.00. A carbon fiber vented race hood can also be added for $2,655.00.
In addition to the engine updates, Velos also added a new front spoiler ($1,800.00) and a rear diffuser ($1,875.00) made of carbon fiber, as well as a new set of ADV1 wheels combined with a KW suspension kit and a Brembo brake kit. For the interior, the tuner added a new BMW Performance steering wheel and a Hardwire Valentine One radar detector.
The Europeans get all of the cool stuff first, as BMW allows them to rent various BMWs, including M-Series models, hourly, daily, or weekly, as opposed to shelling out the $40,000+ required to buy one. Well, after successfully testing in the Euro market, BMW is finally bringing this system, called OnDemand, to the U.S.
Initially, the U.S. Launch will be isolated to only one dealership, BMW of Manhattan, and to one model, the 328i. BMW of Manhattan will offer up a total of 100 328is for people to rent to impress their boss, friends, or date. This system is also great for fleet companies deciding if BMW is right for them or prospective retain customers looking to take an extended test drive prior to lumping down thousands of dollars. It is pretty safe to assume that given this is the initial launch is in Manhattan, booking a rental 328i won’t be as simple as booking a Taurus from your local Avis dealer.
Given this is all successful, we will see the available lineup slowly expand. Some of the models to be added to the available rentals include the new 7-Series, X5, X6, M3, and even the M5. According to the report, however, to get premium rides, like the M3 and M5, the renter has to go through a more rigorous qualification process.
Pricing for renting the initial 328i will not be known until about August, but you can rest assured that it will not be a $20 per day rental and we bet insurance is not optional. We’ll update you once pricing is released on this new system.
Usually when someone says Kahn Design, we automatically think about updated Land Rover models. This time, however, the British tuner is changing things up a bit with a new package based on the BMW X5. This particular model is priced at £23,875 ($38,300 at the current exchange rates), but any customer who owns a 2007+ X5 can order the Kahn package for £2,150 ($3,450 at the current rates).
On the exterior, the most impressive changes are the new Kahn Design RSL wheels in Silver Palladium Finish. Next to the new wheels, the package also includes new front and rear bumpers, wider wheel arches, a sports lowering suspension, and Liquid Red brake calipers.
The interior includes stunning quilted perforated leather interior seats and a Kahn glove box complete with carbon effect inserts. Customers will also get a black Alcantara steering wheel and of course, plenty of "Kahn" badges.

The fact that illicit drugs are easily accessible to many teenagers across the world is worrying in and of itself, but the fact that everyday household products can have the same effects is quite astounding and extremely worrying. Case in point, this 17-year old Australian male who was recently arrested after being pursued by police for over two hours while under the influence of paint.
Yep, those fumes we’re sure you all are familiar with, can be used by immature people to get high, but we never imagined it could impair an individual’s perceptions this much. The driver, William John Noel Compton, attracted police attention after a white BMW X5 was stolen from a Westlake home in Brisbane, while a black BMW Z4 roadster was also taken from the same household by another group.
It’s believed that five teenagers were in the vehicle throughout the entire chase, but until the teens face court, we’ll never know just what they were thinking. Furthermore, scientific testing on how paint fumes can affect an individual are extremely limited and almost non-existent, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the driver was under a similar hit provided by marijuana and other similar illicit drugs.
If one positive can be taken out of this event, it’s the fact that much of the chase was captured by a Channel 7 media helicopter and we can show you that exact video. The lives of dozens of motorists were put in harm’s way, and after many recent deaths in Australia resulting from police chases, the pursuing cop cars were understandably cautious while following the vehicle.
Check out the video above, and please note we don’t condone this sort of behavior!
If anyone was given the opportunity to choose between the BMW M3 and the BMW X5M, many would probably choose the M3. That is, of course, unless they had a bunch of kiddos and groceries to haul around. For those that don’t, or have a second car for that, the M3 is enough to thrill with its sportiness and agility, and the fact that it looks great.
With those features going for the M3, the X5M would seem to have very little going for it, but BMW is out to prove that’s not the case. They grabbed up both vehicles and planted them in Laguna Seca for a little one on one action. With its all wheel drive system and 555 HP Twin Turbo V8 engine delivering exceptional performance on the road or the track, the X5M may have a few tricks up its automotive sleeve to outdo the M3.
Take a look at the video to see for yourself. You may change your answer if ever given the choice between the two.
After officially introducing the X5 M50d, BMW has moved on to announce the launch of the new X5 M Sport Edition - a model that targets customers who want more than a standard X5. The X%M Sport Edition will go on sale in Spring 2012 and will be offered with a new 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers a total of 241 HP and 248 lb-ft of torque.
The exterior of the new X5 M Sport Edition will be distinguished by a new set of 20" light alloys, a BMW individual high gloss shadow line, xenon lights, and adaptive cornering headlights. The model will also be equipped with a pneumatic rear wheel suspension and a sporty suspension setting.
For the interior, BMW has added an M leather-clad steering wheel with shift paddles, as well as stainless steel pedals and the M footrest for the driver. Additional features include a BMW Individual anthracite roof lining, BMW Individual interiors trim strips in black piano lacquer, and doorsills boasting the M logo.
BMW’s dive into the diesel market included not just the M550d xDrive, but the X5 M50d as well. Just like the M550d, the SUV version is powered by the 3.0 liter six-cylinder in-line diesel engine that delivers a total of 381 HP and a peak torque of 546 lb-ft. With this amount of power, the X5 M50d will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds, while top speed is limited to 155 mph. Fuel economy has been reported at 37.7 mpg.
Compared to a standard X5, the new M50d will be distinguished by an optimized aerodynamic balance and enhanced driving pleasure. In the space reserved for the fog-lamps, the new model has received new air intakes joined by horizontal bars painted in Ferric Grey metallic paint and race-inspired air-channeling flaps that sit below the side air intakes to optimize the car’s aerodynamic balance at high speeds. The BMW kidney grille features titanium-colored vertical bars, while the exterior mirror caps are painted in Ferric Grey metallic. The car sits on a standard set of 19-inch M light-alloy wheels in V-spoke design, but there are alsooptional 20-inch M light-alloy wheels in Ferric Grey metallic.
The new BMW X5 M50d will go on sale in Germany on June 16, 2012 at a price of 82,300 euro ($106,500 at the current exchange rates).
The next generation BMW X5 was just caught testing for the first time a few days ago, but once the beast is let out of its cage, there’s no way it’s going back. Unfortunately, this round of testing still has the future X5 under extreme camouflage, but a few new details were still let out.
The next X5 is rumored to make its world debut in 2014 at the Detroit Auto Show and, like most of SUVs, will come forward with an improved fuel consumption and a reduction in weight of about 330 lbs. BMW will be achieving this with the use of all their latest technology.
A first for the X5 will be the availability of two new four-cylinder engines, but the most powerful version will still be powered by its usual 4.4 liter V8 engine. The only difference is that the V8 engine will feature improved figures and an improved fuel economy. A plug-in hybrid version has also been rumored.
More details will be unveiled in the coming months, so stay tuned!
The current BMW X5 went on sale back in 2006 and after what will end up being eight years, BMW will finally release a brand-spanking new generation X5 in 2014, and we were able to grab some spy shots of its first tests. The new model will be completely redesigned, much lighter compared to the current model, and powered by more fuel efficient engines.
It’s no surprise BMW will be working on their X5, considering Audi and Landrover have announced they will be focusing on lighter models for the future. BMW is matching these statements with a 330 lb drop for the new X5, compared to the current model, through the extensive use of aluminum. It will be offered with the company’s latest turbocharged engine in a smaller capacity and an improved fuel economy. The top version, however, will still enjoy its usual 4.4 liter V8 engine, but with improved figures. It has been rumored that BMW will also offer a hybrid X5.
In addition to the weight drop and engine modifications, the next X5 will also get a revised suspension, improved xDrive all-wheel-drive technology, and systems like lane departure warning and compensation, night vision, park assist, traffic sign recognition, surround view cameras, and active cruise control.
German tuning company, Vorsteiner ,has come out with a new aerodynamic package for the BMW X5M and if we do say so ourselves, the German tuning company has done it again.
Incidentally, the new X5M program comes a year after the company unveiled a similar program for the SUV’s big brother, the X6M. Coincidence, or they always appear to be busy this time of the year?
In any case, the addition of Vorsteiner’s new aero components give a fashionable touch to an already classed-up BMW SUV. Among the changes in tow include a new add-on front spoiler, a vented racing hood, and a new rear differ. What makes these materials unique from the rest of the X5M programs we’ve seen in the past is that the components are made from Carbon Fiber Autoclave Pre-Preg. This material adds more strength and durability to the material, yet retains the same high-class look that’s usually attached to anything Vorsteiner does. In addition, the German tuners also added a new set of alloy wheels to complete the SUV’s classy new look.
In terms of performance, Vorsteiner has yet to reveal details regarding any engine improvements for the X5M. Having said that, the high-powered SUV still has plenty of growl under its hood in the form of a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that delivers 555 horsepower and 500 lb/ft of torque. Those numbers are good enough for the SUV to hit 0-62 mph in just five seconds while also boasting of an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.
We’ve seen G Power’s Typhoon body kit on an earlier version of the BMW X5 M, but now the German tuning firm has dressed up the new BMW X5 with the same Typhoon body kit. This would be in addition to giving the SUV an engine upgrade courtesy of its SK III program.
As we’re all familiar with, G Power’s Typhoon body kit comes with plenty of aerodynamic enhancements that turns the X5 into a car that looks like it’s been given a massive makeover. Among the items included are a pair of enormous wing extensions on the front and rear end of the SUV, a new bumper that comes with massive air intakes and LED lights, a vented bonnet made from carbon fiber, custom side skirts, and a custom diffuser. On top of all that, G Power also gave the X5 with a set of 23" Silverstone Edition forged wheels wrapped in high performance Michelin tires.
Inside, G Power continued with the modifications, complete with exclusive accessories that include a sport steering wheel, a new speedometer and a number of interior elements that have made from aluminum.
As for the powertrain, the tuning company’s SK III engine upgrade program, together with an ASA T1-522 supercharger, took the new X5 xDrive48i’s 4.8-liter V8 engine and bumped up its output by 170 horsepower all the way up to 525 horsepower at 6,100 rpm and 443 lb/ft of torque at 5,300 rpm. The end result allows the X5 to hit 0-62 mph in just 4.7 seconds with an increased top speed of 172 mph, a bump up from the electronically limited 155-mph top speed of the standard model.
The Car Show came back this week full of entertaining segments and an array of vehicles to satiate our automotive appetites. During this episode, John Salley was able to fall in line with an Indy 500 pit crew to see what it takes to drive one of the racers and Matt Farah and Adam Corolla take a couple of luxury SUVs through the ringer to see which of them is the best for hauling ass and groceries. Matt Farah also gets a chance to take the Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder Performante out for a spin at the Monticello Motor Club, while all of the hosts get to meet the most interesting, and rather odd, Lamborghini owner ever.
Along with the usual mini-segments provided for every episode, this week we also got to take part in The Car Show Repair Shop where viewers call in and ask the hosts about problems they are having with their cars. If you think these people are weird, try listening to some of their problems.

BMW will be unveiling the special edition X5 and X6 Exclusive Editions at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September. Both of these models were created by using special paints and materials. The two models will be put on sale this fall.
The X5 and X6 Exclusive Editions will be painted in an exclusive Orion Silver Metallic color that is only available on the 6-Series and will be combined with soft Nevada leather, special wheels, and a dark bamboo interior strip. Currently there are no details on the engine that will be used for the two models, but we do not expect to see big changes under the hood.
These new exclusive editions will only be offered for the top versions of the two models which are powered by a V8 petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo and direct injection. This engine delivers a total of 407 bhp at 5,500 – 6,400 rpm.
We fully understand the sense of irony with the name Romeo Ferraris and the cars that they work on, but nevertheless, it doesn’t take away from the quality of work they’ve done over the years.
Fresh off their works on the Smart ForTwo, the Abarth 500, and the Audi RS6, the Italian aftermarket company is turning its attention on a pair of high-powered German SUVs in the form of the BMW X5M and the BMW X6M.
In this instance, Romeo Ferraris prepared a conversion kit for both the X5M and the X6M, and the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine they come in. The first step of the kit involves reprogramming their ECU systems, bumping up the output to 604 horsepower and 574 lb/ft of torque - up from the standard 555 horsepower and 501 lb/ft of torque it comes in. The next step after that is mapping and adding a pair of optional central terminals and sports matches. This upgrade further bumps up the SUVs output to a staggering 655 horsepower and 638 lb/ft of torque.
On top of the engine upgrade, Romeo Ferraris is also offering an enhanced braking system that comes with 6-piston front calipers, 380 x 32 mm discs, and 4 piston rear discs 380 × 28 mm, as well as an exterior and interior customization program that features outdoor films available in a number of options - carbon effect, opaque, or colored - and an interior that can be dressed up with either leather or Alcantara with matching Romeo Ferraris sports pedals to boot.
If you already have a BMW X5 and are drawing a blank as to what to ask your loved ones for this holiday season, BMW has just what you are looking for. The German automaker has just launched the new ‘BMW X5 Performance Accessories’ range for their luxury SUV. The ironic thing here is that, despite what its name suggests, this package doesn’t come with performance upgrades. Weird.
What it does come with are aesthetic and aerodynamic modifications for both the exterior and interior of the X5. For the exterior, the items include new front and rear bumpers and side skirts that were designed and tested at the BMW’s state-of-the-art wind tunnel in Munich. These items are fit to reduce aerodynamic drag and lift at high speeds, thereby improving the X5’s stability. They also serve as a pretty cool fashion statement. Speaking of fashion statements, BMW also included a set of black kidney grilles in their package to give the X5 an even more menacing look than what it already has.
As for the interior, the BMW Performance Accessories include upgrades on both the SUV’s steering wheel and pedal set. For the former, BMW Performance has a unique multi-function steering wheel that features a thick, racing-style, flattened lower rim that’s fully covered in hand-stitched Alcantara material. For the latter (the pedal set), BMW Performance has an aluminum pedal kit that includes a gas pedal, brake pedal, and footrest pedal, all of which were ergonomically crafted with aluminum featuring rubber inserts.
There you have it, folks. A nice new styling kit for theBMW X5 courtesy of, well, BMW. If you’re interested, you can inquire about these accessories at any authorized BMW Center where they’re set to go on sale later this month.

Hamann proved today that the X5 M can do more than originally stated by BMW. Granted, most automakers don’t push the envelope when developing the number of ponies under the hood of their SUVs, but that doesn’t mean that the owners won’t want to. That is why there is a place in the world for tuners such as Hamann. Their package, called the Flash Evo M develops an incredible 610 hp and a torque of 780 Nm. And that’s just the base kit.
A standard BMW X5 M gives out 555hp, but, with a little engine optimization and the elimination of the factory-installed Vmax restriction of 155mph, that can be taken to the previously mentioned 610hp making it that much more fantastic. If that’s still not enough then Hamann is also offering an HM 670 sports kit that will increase the power even further to 670hp and 950 Nm of torque.
The exterior package includes a striking front spoiler fitted with two or four integrated LED daytime running lights, large air intakes, a carbon bonnet, additional air inlets and outlets, side sill bars, a sport exhaust system with two central tailpipes integrated into the diffuser, and a carbon roof spoiler. Customers can choose from 22 or 23 inch light alloy wheels. For the interior, Hamann offers applique made of visible carbon fiber and a stainless steel sill plate with an illuminated HAMANN logo.
As pumped as we are about the transformation provided by Hamann, it’s actually not the best we have seen for this vehicle. G-Power’s recent work on the BMW X5 M left it packing 725hp. Then there’s the obligatory matte black exterior paint job that they felt they needed to slap onto to the Beamer. Based on power alone, G-Power takes the cake. If we were to add in looks then it would be a toss-up.

There’s plenty of competition looming around in terms of tuning kits for the BMW X5, such as the BMW X5 M Typhoon by G-Power and the upgrades provided by Superchips for various BMW models. Upgrades like these may be hard to compete with, but after completing the kit for the Maserati GranTurismo, Mansory had a little time on their hands to tackle the luxury SUV. Their attempt at jazzing up left it with both interior and exterior upgrades, plus a boost in the performance department.
The exterior package includes a very sporty front spoiler with big cooling air inlets, an extra light engine bonnet made entirely from carbon, new side skirts, a new roof spoiler made in carbon fiber, new back-spoilers with an integrated diffuser, and a sport exhaust system with four stainless-steel tailpipes. The exterior package is finished by silver monoblock cast wheels. The interior gets a newly designed sports steering wheel, leather, and carbon fiber inserts.
As for the engine, it has been upgraded to deliver a total of 670 hp and 950 Nm at a rate of 5900 Umin. The result is a sprint from 0 to 60mph made in only 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph. Unfortunately for Mansory, the boost in horsepower was nothing compared to the 725hp provided by G-Power. Maybe next time, Mansory.
Press release after the jump.
Okay, so we would like to start off with the fact that we were impressed when G-Power updated the BMW X5 M SUV last year with its Typhoon package. What we didn’t was that, not even a year later, G Power would modify that package and improve it by that much more. In its standard version the Typhoon package delivered a total of 600 HP, now the tuner has boosted the engine of the SUV to an impressive 725 HP.
Thanks to the enlarged air intakes in the front skirt and the outlet vents in the bonnet, there is an improved flow of cooling air to the radiator and oil cooler at the front of the vehicle, increasing cooling performance by around 15%. The result is an impressive 725 HP and 890 NM of torque. The sprint from 0 to 60 mph is now made in 4.2 seconds which is 0.3 seconds faster than the standard package. Top speed remains at 186mph just as it was in the earlier package.
G-Power is also offering a fully stainless steel G-POWER system, a set of sport catalytic converters, and a set of flow optimized G-POWER exhaust manifolds connecting the turbochargers. The interior gets an ergonomically designed sports steering wheel, a G-POWER speedometer, and fine carbon-fiber trim on the side panels, center console, and dashboard.

A few days ago, we showed you a video of a BMW X5 attempting a barrel roll and failing miserably in doing so. There’s something to be said for an amateur trying to pull something like this off, the most important of which is ‘what the hell is he thinking?’
On the flip side, the rally driver of the BMW X5 in this video shows us how to save your ride from rolling over. All it took was the SUV coming perilously close to rolling over before the driver does some amazing steering wheel magic. It looks easy from watching it, but trust us, it’s easier to watch it than it is to do it in the heat of the moment.
The most awesome part is, the driver does it not once, but twice in a matter of seconds. That type of driving requires some serious skills and awareness of your surroundings to pull it off.
We don’t recommend anybody from attempting this stunt with their own cars, but in the event you find yourself in the same predicament, at least you’ll know how save your car from rolling over.
We’re curious to know if at any point before the driver of this BMW X5 decided to turn his SUV into a Dukes of Hazzard stunt car did he honestly think that he could successfully complete an airborne barrel roll without doing his car – and himself – any harm.
We’re wondering that because we can’t, for the life of us, comprehend how he could honestly think of pulling it off given the girth of the SUV he was driving. Then again, crazy nut jobs do crazy things and this guy certainly qualifies for somebody who’s got a few loose bolts in his head that certainly need a lot of tightening.
That being said, we still enjoyed watching the video – we do hope the driver didn’t suffer any injuries – only because idiotic stunts like this remind us that performing stunts with your own car usually doesn’t end well for all parties involved.
British tuner, Superchips, has decided that diesel engines can be just as much fun as their petrol counterparts, so they decided to do a little reconfiguring for BMW’s 3.0-liter, six-cylinder engine that powers models like the BMW 3-Series, 5-Series, 7-Series, X5, and X6.
Superchips was able to increase the power of the diesel engine by 44hp at 4183 rpm and 90 Nm of torque at just 2222 rpm. This brings the total output to 313hp and 627Nm of torque. In order to accomplish this task, Superchips had to perform a remap of the engine while taking into consideration the "careful optimization of fueling and turbo boost settings". According to Superchips, this reconfiguration allows for a sharper throttle response, a keener, more urgent engine, a harder pull throughout the rev range.
The BMW 3.0 D ECU remap is priced at £445.00 and comes with a 12 month/30,000 mile supplementary vehicle warranty.

With the announcement of Infiniti’s new performance line and the debut of their2 M-based models coming up at the Pebble Beach Concours, it probably wasn’t a bad idea for BMW to release a video about their Performance line. There’s always room for a little refresher when competition is brewing.
BMW’s Performance line is available for models like the 1-Series, the 3-Series, the X5, and the X6. It includes hand-crafted carbon components, a lightweight sports silencer, front bumper, side-sills, and an insert for the rear bumper; all in a special design and body color. The Performance line also includes a rear spoiler, rear fins in matte black, and a front grid finished in high-gloss black paint. Finishing off the line are a set of 21" light-alloy wheels.
For models like the BMW M3, the Performance Package includes a lowered suspension that brings the chassis 10 mm closer to the asphalt and stiffens things up with a newly developed set of electronically adjustable dampers as well as an all new set of lightweight mesh alloys measuring 19 inches in diameter. These alloys help dress up the new M3’s appearance along with the functional aero package.

We’re not the type to be easily surprised by anything that happens in the auto industry, but this one really caught us off-guard - in a good way, of course.
This here is a new lightweight BMW X5 prototype that, according to BMW, is about 50% lighter than the weight of the first ever X5 to be released to the public some years ago. The material in use for this prototype is something that’s called carbon fiber reinforced plastic, a material that supposedly cuts the overall bulk of cars without compromising any of the safety standards set on these vehicles.
That potential alone should make the hairs on the back of our heads rise without provocation.
In addition to its lightweight nature – and the fact that nothing is taken away as far as safety is concerned, the CFRP can also provide stability to a vehicle in inclement conditions while providing the necessary sturdiness to absorb any potential hits without debilitating damage.
All in all, this X5 prototype, by using the CFRP material, saves as much as 400 pounds from other X5s that use steel on the body. It may not look a lot to the casual observer, but 400 pounds less means less weight to pull around. And you don’t need to tell us how that affects the power and speed of a car.
BMW marked a landmark milestone recently when it celebrated its 1-millionth X5 SUV to ever be built. Car number 1,000,000 is a Black Sapphire 2011 BMW X5 xDrive 35i that comes with a Cinnamon Brown Nevada leather interior.
The milestone achievement happened at BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. This is the very same plant that first opened way back in 1994 and is also one of the first production plants opened by BMW in America. For the past 16 years, the Spartanburg production facility has been responsible for building over 1.6 million vehicles - and counting - with about 60% of all X5 SUVs exported all over the world being built there, including the one-millionth X5, which we found out will be brought to a customer in China.
If only that dude knew just how special his brand-new BMW X5 is. He should take utmost care of it so as to preserve the SUV’s value, which we assume that in a couple of years time, will become one of those cars that collectors would try to aggressively pursue.
For whatever reason, drag racing SUVs aren’t all that common in today’s world. Whether they’re a little too bulky or they just don’t make for good drag racers, SUVs have served far bigger purposes in our lives than for just the 12-second, quarter-mile thrill-ride.
That being said, when we do chance upon the rare sight that is a quarter-mile race between two high-powered SUVs, we certainly won’t miss the chance to see which one takes the cake and which one ends up whiffing on it. In this video, we have a BMW X5M taking on a Range Rover Sport Supercharged. Pretty even race, don’t you think?
Well, it was pretty even for a while before one of them decides to take-off, leaving the other one staring at the winner’s rear end. Care to venture a guess as to who crossed the quarter-mile first? Check it out and find out.
It’s the battle of the propeller blades as two BMWs duke it out for the ever so important bragging rights. With both coming from BMW’s legendary M division, the BMW M5 Touring tries to uppend a BMW X5M.
Both vehicles start off competitively, leading us to think that this race may go down to who lunges first. However, faster than we could say ’photo finish’, the BMW M5 Touring begins to stretch its legs and the 507 horsepower underneath its hood proves too much for the X5M, leaving it completely eating its dust. We don’t know how many car-lengths the X5 Touring won by, but it was big enough to assume that it was somewhere close to 30 yards.
Some say women are the worst drivers while others claim the elderly take the cake. In this situation, it’s both. A 62-year-old, Richmond Hill woman by the name of Tripta Kaushal pleaded guilty on Tuesday to an accident that happened over a year ago outside a gym in Markham. The video shows Kaushal driving her BMW X5 into a parking lot and pulling into a parking space. When she pulls in, you expect her to stop, but no, this overachiever continued the drive and rammed right up two vehicles parked in the adjacent spots. One might think she was receiving a phone call or maybe doing a bit of texting, but at 62, we highly doubt it. The reason behind the underestimation of her parking spot was left unsaid, but fleeing the scene cost her $500 and the ability to drive between 7pm and 7am. Kaushal was also ordered to pay restitution on the two vehicles damaged during her rendition of a Monster Truck Rally. Lucky for her, it seemed her BMW was left unharmed. Way to go, BMW!
Let’s just hope that this little lady thinks twice before getting behind the wheel. You never know, next time she may drive right through the front of a grocery store. Hmmm…we better start doing our shopping between 7pm and 7am.
BMW is going to explode into the New York Auto Show on April 2nd-11th, debuting 5 vehicles; 2011 BMW 5 series, 2011 BMW 335is Coupe and Convertible, 2011 BMW X5 SAV(making their North American debut), and 2011 BMW Alpina B7 xDrive (making its World debut). Something tells me that BMW has been working hard not to fall through the cracks as the likes of Mercedes and Lexus turn out vehicles of their own. The 2011 BMW 5 series alone competes with the 2011 Mercedes E550 and the 2010 Lexus LS460 even though BMW speeds right by them due to its V8 engine with a maximum output of 400hp.
Follow the jump for details on each of these models plus the press release.
Usually, all the Audi models have, at some point, an S and an RS version and since the Q5 has acquired some stiff competition with the BMW X5 and the BMW X5M, the company decided to offer more options of the Q5 for their customers.
The first to arrive on the market is the SQ5, a model inspired by the Q5 Custom Concept. It will arrive in 2011 and will be powered by a super-charged 3.0 liter V6 engine with a compressor comparable to Audi’s existing S4. This car will be delivering an output of 333 horsepower. While most of the car is the same with the standard Q5 version, a couple of striking differences between a standard Q5 and the SQ5 will include, among others, a new front and rear spoiler and a rear diffuser, quad exhaust and a chrome "S" grille.
The next step will be the RSQ5, a model powered by the same 3.0 TFSI V6 engine and will deliver 408 hp and 500 Nm of torque.
There is a soft spot in our hearts for BMW and with the SQ5 and the RSQ5 producing 333hp and 408hp, respectively, we stand strong on the 555hp produced by the BMW X5M. We can only hope that this new competition will lead BMW to an X3M model. If you happen to be an Audi lover, don’t worry, we will keep a lookout for any type of confirmation on these two new Audi models. Who knows, if they do debut, maybe it will get us to change our minds.
BMW has officially announced the details of their new M Sports package for the X5 SUV with the new package will be available for order starting this spring.

BMW unveiled today the new X5 SUV, a model that comes with entirely revised range of engines and concise design modifications. At the exterior the new X5 gets larger side air intakes at the front and an increased proportion of surfaces painted in body color, reshaped rear bumper and the tailpipe surrounds, dual round headlamps with optional Xenon lights, fitted with LED corona.
The biggest changes are made under the hood: a choice of V8 and a straight six-cylinder, all featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and direct fuel injection and and equipped with an eight-speedautomatic transmission as standard.
The model line-up include: BMW X5 xDrive50i powered by a V8 petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo and direct injection that delivers a total of 407 bhp at 5,500 – 6,400 rpm. It makes the sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, while top speed is limited to 155 mph. The next model in the line-up is BMW X5 xDrive35i powered by a Straight six-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo and direct injection and a total output of 306 bhp at 5,800 rpm. The sprint from 0 to 60 mph in this version is made in 6.8 seconds, and top speed is 146 mph.
The first diesel model is BMW X5 xDrive40d powered by a Straight six-cylinder diesel engine with aluminium crankcase, BMW TwinPower Turbo and Common Rail direct injection that delivers a total of 306 bhp at 4,400 rpm. It makes the sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds, while top speed is also 146 mph.
And finally there is the X5 xDrive30d powered by a straight six-cylinder diesel engine with aluminium crankcase, turbocharger with variable turbine geometry and Common Rail direct injection with a total output of 245 bhp at 4,000 rpm and a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds; top speed in this case is 137 mph.

BMW revealed something that might be called "an educational video". They actually have an instruction teaching what do in case you lose control of your car on the snow. Oh, did we mentioned he does it in a BMW X6 M? There is also a BMW X5 M having fun out there!
Every so often an occasion comes along that requires taking the time to come up with something special enough to commemorate the celebration. Well in honor of their quarter of a century in existence, the German tuning firm G-Power has unveiled a special edition BMW X5 to celebrate their 25th anniversary based on their Typhoon appearance package for the sports activity vehicle called Black Pearl. On the outside you will find the same familiar aggressive front bumper with its oversized air intakes and LED driving lights, wide body fenders, vented hood and and low hanging ground effects package. Out back a G-POWER stainless steel sport muffler pokes out from the new diffuser while a set of staggered G-POWER Silverstone aluminum alloys measuring an impressive 23 inches in diameter round out the exterior upgrades.
What makes the Black Pearl unique is the specially developed G-POWER SK III RS supercharger kit that motivates the 4.8 Liter BMW V8 to make a total of 625 HP and 516 lb-ft of torque. The newfound boost in output allows the Black Pearl to sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in just 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 186 MPH, figures that would make a sports car jealous.

We can’t think of anything more appropriate than a German tuner turning a few wrenches on one of Germany’s most powerful people movers. As they comes from the factory, the X5 M and X6 M models roar like muscle cars, so when G-Power gets done with them you can only image what the end product is like. However the high performance specialists focused on more then just upping the fastback sport activity vehicle’s output, that is why they started off with one of their wide body Typhoon body kits to get the ball rolling.
The first thing that G-Power modified was the 4.4 Liter Biturbo’s engine electronics that not only removes the factory set 155 MPH top speed limiter, but also increases the motor sport inspired SAV all the way up to 600 HP and 516 lb-ft of torque. This allows the G-Powered X5 and X6 M to sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in just 4.5 seconds and reach a terminal velocity of 186 MPH. Aside from the ultra aggressive front bumper from the Typhoon kit, the exterior is dressed up with a carbon fiber front spoiler with integrated oversized air inlets, lower hanging side skirts and of course a set of G-Power Silverstone Editionaluminum alloys measuring 23 inches in diameter.

This is a video is a reminder that despite your cars being parked in an orderly manner at a parking lot, it’s still not safe from reckless drivers who have momentary lapses in judgment.
The incident happened in a parking lot outside an Extreme Fitness gym on Thornhill, Ontario. The surveillance video begins without incident – a group of cars parked quietly in the lot. Then, a BMW X5 shows up and is about to quietly park in one of the empty slots when the driver somehow accelerates the X5, going over the hoods of two hapless vehicles in the process.
With nobody in sight to see his boo-boo – or so he thought – the driver of the X5 quickly reverses his SUV out of the parking lot and goes about his merry way as if nothing happened. Unfortunately, the surveillance team captured every second of his buccaneering ways and once he’s identified, he’s going to have to pay a steep price for his over-eagerness to park.
While a tall SUV with more power than a BMW M5 may not be the most ideal vehicle, if a company was going to create one, at least its BMW. At this week’s New York Auto Show the BMW X5 M will make its first public appearance. The superfast SUV will share the stage with its mechanically similar stalemate, the X6 M.
The X5 M is powered by BMW’s twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine. The new turbos combined with a revised exhaust manifold creates 555 hp in this application. THis is a 205 hp step up from the next most powerful X5, the 350 hp X5 xDrive48i. It’s mated to a six-speed M Sports Automatic transmission, and both the engine and transmission are shared with the X6 M.
As we’ve seen from the lightly covered spy shots, the X5 M gets new front bumpers with large jowls to help with air intake. The M package also includes 20-inch alloy wheels and a full body kit.

When it comes about tuning a BMW, Hartge is one of the tuners that really knows what to do. And while for most of the people a diesel car is quite a challenge, for them seemed to have been quite fun. Starting with the idea that the X5 does not look like a SUV, Hartge wanted to make the X5 a real beast, in both appearance and performance.
Starting under the hood, thanks to a reprogrammed ECU and a sport exhaust system the 3-liter diesel engine delivers 328 hp (up from the standard 265 hp). Thanks to the added power, the X5 sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 6 seconds, while top speed goes up to 151 mph.
The appearance package includes: new front and rear fascias, wheel arch extensions, aggressive two-piece side sills, 22-inch ‘BRILLANT CLASSIC 2’ wheels, carbon fiber mirror casings, and stainless steel tailpipe finishers.

With the release of the new BMW X1, it was only a matter of time before BMW released a new set of family photos featuring the ‘X-Family’ and its latest addition to the clan. As part of a marketing campaign designed to introduce customers to the ‘X-Family’, BMW released these photos showing all four SUVs posing and mugging for the camera. Of course, cars can’t really do that but you get the picture.
While the X1 is of course a new model, BMW doesn’t have plans on redesigning the X5 and the X6 for another few years. The odd one out in this photo is the X3, which BMW is set to drop by the end of the year to pave way for the next-generation model to be launched sometime in 2010 along with the X4 that is if rumors surrounding the coupe-SUV hybrid become more than just hearsay.
In the meantime, the entry-level SUV title has been transferred to the X1, which incidentally, is already out in the European market.
When the luxury German automaker revealed the new BMW X5 M it was announced that the multi passenger sports vehicle would deliver 555 HP from a twin turbocharged V8. While having nothing to do with the factory’s M Division, the new tuning package from the aftermarket manufacturer G-Power has been boosted to deliver a maximum output of 625 HP, a 70 HP increase over the most powerful X5 in BMW’s lineup.
The new Typhoon RS comes with a vented hood, a set of extremely bold fender flares and a more aggressive front fascia with larger air inlets and two rows of LED lit driving lights. Out back there is a new rear apron made to work with the company’s stainless steel sport mufflers. Tying the front and rear of the modified Bimmer together are a pair of sports inspired side skirts that replace the rather impractical factory running boards. Finishing off the Typhoon RS is a set of custom black 23 inch forged aluminum rims with a chrome lip.
Thanks to a supercharger, the 4.8 Liter engine now produces 625 HP and 516 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to those new numbers, the Typhoon only takes 4.5 seconds to spring from 0 to 60 MPH and reach an impressive top speed of 177 MPH.

Hartge has revealed a new styling package for the X5 SUV. The tuning kit includes: a new front spoiler, a rear skirt, left and right side sills and a stainless steel rear silencer with oval tail pipes left and right. </p.
The bad new is that the side sills of the 2009 Hartge BMW X5 E70 however, can not be fitted in conjunction with the M Aerodynamic package. Prices for the package have not been announced yet.
After BMW revealed the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, they are also preparing a production version X5 Hybrid for 2010. The first BMW model to benefit from the Active Hybrid system will be the 7-Series (set to be revealed in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show) followed by the X6.
The first prototypes have already been caught testing in the California. The difference between the concept revealed in the 2008 and the prototypes caught by the spy photographers is its engine. If the concept combined a diesel engine with an electric motor, the prototype was powered by a gasoline engine. But even so, BMW will also produce a diesel-hybrid powertrain, we’ll just wait to wait longer to finally see it.
The concept revealed in 2008 features the Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept with a twin-turbo, 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel that’s mated to a hybrid motor. The car is also equipped with BMW’s regenerative braking system and photovoltaic solar panels mounted to the roof. Thanks to the Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept, the concept returns fuel economy in the region of 43.5mpg and CO2 emissions of just 172g/km.
The impossible has happened, only years ago the top brass at BMW said that they would never do it, there is a BMW X5 on the streets of Germany wearing an M badge. Top Speed showed you the automaker’s factory driver Nick Heidfeld putting the factory tuned BMW through its paces, so you have seen what it can do. This Blue Watter Metallic X5 M shows off the vehicles aggressively styled front bumper and headlights borrowed from the X6. We are not sure if it has something to do with the timing, but we’re pretty sure that when you go the dealership there will be flying propellers on those beautiful split spoke rim’s center caps.
When it goes on this side of the Atlantic, the X5 will carry an $86,225 price tag. The high-powered sport utility that started the craze will be powered by a 4.4 Liter twin turbocharged V8 that will put out 555 HP and 500 lb-ft of torque. Enough to make 0 to 60 MPH runs to soccer practice in just 4.5 seconds, while the 155 MPH speed limiter is saved for out of town trips.
Check out the link to see the rest of the photographs.
Nick Heidfeld is BMW’s factory Formula 1 driver. The 32 year old West German recently made a trip to the land of the rising sun to unveil the new BMW X5 M at the Shanghai Auto Show. Nick took the time out to make a little comparison between the new hot rod X5 and his BMW Sauber F1 machine. Check the video to see what he had to say.
BMW announced the US pricing for the newly launched X6 M and X5 M Sporty SUVs. Revealed at the New York Auto Show, the two models will go on sale at a price of $86,225 for the X5 M and $89,725 for the X6M.
Both models are powered by a 4,4 liter twin-scroll, twin-turbo charged V8 engine that delivers 555 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a M Sports transmission. The M models can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4,5 seconds, while top speed is limited to 155 mph.
The two models come equipped with Dynamic Performance Control, special M suspensions and Adaptive Drive, along with a new Servotronic power steering and Active Roll Stabilization system. Other available options are: Head Up Display, Rear View Camera and High Beam Assistant.

Even BMW’s own X5 Security isn’t safe enough for some people, so now BMW has introduced the X5 Security Plus.
So what new in the world of bad business? Well, the tires can now run about 60 miles longer at 50 mph with no air. Also the armor has been upgraded. The standard X5 Security could withstand .44 Magnum rounds (insert Dirty Harry joke here), and now the Plus can also take on the most popular assault weapon on the block, the AK-47 (insert slightly more obscure Jackie Brown joke here).
All these upgrades do take their toll on performance, which may mean the baddies could get in an extra shot or two. The Security Plus has the same 355 hp 4.8-liter V8 that’s in the regular model, so 0 to 60 mph time has been raised 0.7 second to 8.2 and top speed has been lowered 18 mph to 112 mph.
Of course we’re missing the root of the problem here...Once someone gets to this level of need for safety and security, wouldn’t it just pay off more to be a nicer person?
This is so far just a rumor but a fun one. In the game of one upping everyone, BMW may be thinking that two turbos may not be good enough for its performance diesel engine, so it bolted on one more on for good measure. Next to the X5 M, BMW may give its six-cylinder diesel with a tri-turbo setup delivering 354 hp.
To entice the eco-minds, BMW will also add technology like the Start-Stop system and Brake Energy Regeneration (KERS). The super oil burner will likely slot between the X5 M and X5 xDrive48i, and have the body kit to reflect it. This could include a more aggressive bumpers and flared wheel arches.
Just a few days after the official launch, BMW also announced the German prices on the new X5 and X6 M models. The X6 M is priced at 108,500 euro ($143,800 at the current exchange rates), while for the X5 M the European customers will have to pay 105,900 euro ($140,370 at the current rates). Anyway in USA the price will be kept in the $90k area.
Both models are powered by a 4.4-liter V8 engine that delivers 555 hp at 6,000 rpm and 500 lb-ft of torque from 1500 to 5,650 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed M sports automatic transmission.
G-POWER is a German BMW tuner who currently holds the record for the world’s fastest sedan with their 228 MPH M5 HURRICANE. The company’s latest creation the G-POWER TYPHOON is based on a BMW X5 SUV and follows the same supercharged philosophy to make 525 hp from the 4.8-liter V8.

The latest generation of the BMW X5 has only been around since 2007, but its already ready for its first facelift. From the look of this shot, it seems BMW has traded in the big jowly hounddog appearance, for a big jowly bulldog look (more like the X6.)
More important than new looks, is a bigger engine. BMW is preparing a M version of the X5 that is set to be revealed next month. The quickest X5, teased by an official video, will get a twin scroll turbocharged V8 engine making 500 hp.
BMW just launched a microsite on the internet announcing that the high-performance M versions of the X5 and X6 will make their debut 30 days from now. Considering the New York Auto Show starts on April 19, that means both models will be revealed ahead of the show.
As revealed in the teaser video, the sport activity vehicles will be powered by a twin scroll turbocharged V8 engine, which just backs up our suspicions of the 500+ hp 4.4-liter twin turbo powerplant making an appearance in these SAVs.
BMW has taken on an interesting task. It’s making a performance version of its two-ton SUV, the X5. To prove this can be done, BMW release this official performance video.
Just like the X6 M version, we suspect the engine generating all that power in this video is a twin-turbocharged version of the 4.4-liter V8 making at least 500 hp. The X5 M could be fully revealed as early as next month at the Detroit Auto Show, the home of the SUV.
As you know once you do a good job, you keep coming again to do the same thing! This is what happened with Lumma, who unveiled today a new interpretation of the Bmw X5. Available exclusively for the X5 wearing no dynamic package, the kit includes a new front bumper, a carbon-fiber hood, new side sills and a new rear bumper featuring exhaust cutters and an air diffuser.
Also a new set of 20 inch alloy wheels was added, same model used at the Lumma CLR X530. As an option, the tuner offers carbon-fiber mirror coverings as well as 22 inch alloy wheels. Price of the kit: $13,370.
This is the car for the person who has everything but security. If you need a safe car (literally) then the new X5 Security is the right one for you. Consider it the ultimate urban assault vehicle.
Making an appearance at a Moscow security show last week, the new BMW X5 Security is powered by a 4.8-liter 355 hp V8 engine that produces a maximum torque of 350 ft lbs at 3,400 rpm. Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in under 7.5 seconds, the BMW X5 Security’s top speed is limited electronically to 130 mph.
The vehicle’s armored passenger compartment is an essential part of the protection concept. It is bulletproof and safely withstands attacks with handguns up to caliber .44 Magnums, including caliber .357 Magnums or 9 mm Lugers.
The protection comes from reinforcements such as components and panels which are made from special high-performance fiber-reinforced material. This material is used in the side panels, the roof, the front footwell and the rear. Some parts are also reinforced by bullet-proof steel for enhanced protection. Circumferential safety glazing with a 22 mm thickness withstands attacks with impact weapons and is also bullet resistant to VR4 ballistic protection level. The windows are reinforced with an additional polycarbonate layer that offers passengers protection from shattered glass.
The BMW X5 Security also provides complete protection behind the rear seating area.

With the new Falcon, AC Schnitzer unveiled its new body kit for the Bmw X5 SUV which gives the car a plus of sportivity but also, according to the tuner, a majestic aura. The new kit consists in a re-designed front bumper, new side sills, bonnet vents and a rear bumper with air diffuser and integrated exhaust system. In order to provide a better stability and handling 22 inch racing wheels were added together with a new suspension kit.
At the interior, a new 3-spoke sports airbag steering wheel was added together with new carbon fiber insertions, new door panels, aluminium pedals and foot rest, aluminium cover for i-Drive silver or “Black Line“ and velours floor mats. Under the hood the 3.0sd engine was boosted from 210 kW / 286 hp to 228 kW/310 hp and from 580 Nm to 680 Nm. Also a new sports exhaust system with double sports rear silencer was added.
First spy photographers caught the X6 hybrid testing, and now its time for the X5 Hybrid! It was caught testing in the California desert.
The first time you heard about a X5 hybrid was this year’s Geneva Auto Show where BMW revealed the X5 Hybrid concept using a twin-turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel.
This latest spy shots prove that BMW is preparing a production version for that concept.
Engine photos display a variety of wires and high-voltage compartments that hide most of the X5 hybrid’s gas engine.
Last week, we brought you news about the Chinese counterpart of the BMW X5 and how the German court banned the maker from selling it in Germany. For those who thought the escapade was over, wait till you hear this.
A German court in Munich has slotted into top gear and ordered Shuanghuan to destroy all their SUVs plying German roads. Making matters worse is the court’s notice to importers, China Automobile, to pay compensatory damages to BMW.
BMW as expected is overjoyed with the court’s verdict which was imminent when BMW’s spokesperson stated that "We are pleased that the court has agreed with our views”
The not so happy Karl Schloessl of China Automobile Germany, said he would launch an appeal against the ruling, which is not yet binding, saying he was prepared to take the case to the European Court of Justice.
It was impossible to ban a vehicle in Germany that was allowed to be on the road in the rest of Europe, Schloessl said, adding that there were more than a 1,000 of them on the road in Italy.
This news serves as a slap on the face of Chinese automakers as a whole. If further verdicts support BMW which I think will, there would be no other choice for Shuanghuan other than plucking its SUVs off German roads and sending them to the crushers. With that said, Chinese automakers will be forced to think twice before bringing their copy cars to Germany again.
Chinese cars are cheap to buy, and some don’t have a good reputation for being safe or hot cakes in developed markets. Above all that, the majority resemble BMW’s, Audi’s and Mercedes’ designs.
Glance at the car pictured above. If I were to strip off its badge and park it alongside a previous generation BMW X5, would you be able to tell them apart? I’m very optimistic that you wouldn’t. One can argue that cars today are somewhat similarly designed, headlamps, tail lamps, and quarter glass panels are carried over from one model to another, but definitely not entire cars.
BMW had taken legal action against Shuanghuan by filing a case in a German court in September last year, for making the CEO (Pictured) based on their X5 SUV. The case now has come to an end, BMW emerging victorious in the battle, as the court ruled that Shuanghuan’s CEO infringes BMW’s design rights.
Furthermore, the court announced that Shuanghuan is banned from selling their CEO in Germany.
But Managing Director Karl Schloessl is not happy about the verdict. He complains that the CEO is an entirely different car compared to the X5. He plans to fight again by appealing against the court’s decision.
’It is a one-sided judgment, but of course it was made in Munich. It’s a BMW city," expressed the unhappy director on the court’s verdict.
If you liked the Hartge Hunter based on the Bmw X5 you will definetely like the new tuning kit for the German SAV. With the new customization programme the vehicle becomes a true sports car. With the re-programming of ECU, the diesel engine delivers now 275 hp and an astonishing 600 Nm of torque making possible the sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 7.4 seconds and a top speed limited electronically to 232 km/h.
In order to provide better handling and stability the car was lowered with 30 millimeters. Also 22 inch alloy wheels were added fitted with 285 Pirelli Scorpion Zero tires. Price of the kit: € 57,554 plus VAT.
And talking about gas price and fuel consumption... BMW is working on a more powerful version of its X5 SUV powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine (same as in the X6). Official debut will be made next year at the Geneva motor show.
The most powerful version in the current line-up is the 4.8i powered by a 355bhp 4.8-litre V8 that will rocket the BMW to 60mph in 6.5 seconds and on to 152mph.
The new version will hit a top speed of 155 mph and will make the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 5.5 seconds.
The UK pricing for the future X5 will be of £60,000. It will have a fuel consumption of 23mpg on the combined cycle and has a CO2 posting of around 300g/km.
Hartge, the well-known Bmw tuner unveiled its new tuning kit for the Bmw X5. The car features a re-designed front bumper, new side skirts, new rear bumper as well as a rear roof spoiler while at the interior new carbon fiber insertions were added as well as aluminium sport pedals and new custom steering wheel.
In order to improve the engine performances the tuning company offers ECU tweaking for the 3.0 liter diesel engines: the 3.0ds engine develops now 328 hp while the 3.0d engine is capable of developing 275 hp. In order to improve also the handling of the car Harge added also its custom 22” alloy whees. No words about the price yet.
Due to week dollar, BMW announced the company will raise prices in the U.S. by 1%. The increase for cars such as the X5 sports-utility vehicle and 5-Series luxury sedan will take effect on June 1, Markus Sagemann, a spokesman for the Munich-based company, said today.
"It’s a moderate price increase that reflects the conditions in the market," Sagemann said in a telephone interview, adding that the last U.S. increase was in March 2007.
The dollar’s drop hurts BMW because the company gets fewer euros for every car it sells in the U.S. The dollar has fallen about 8 percent against the euro this year. This means that for a car like the 5-Series, BMW gets more than 2,000 euros ($3,150) less now for each one it sells than it did at the beginning of the year.
The first-quarter charge led to a 17 percent drop in BMW’s net income for the first three months. Four-month U.S. sales fell 4 percent to about 100,000 cars as the financial crisis sours consumers’ desire to make purchases.
BMW will launch the 3 series diesel (335d) and the X5d on the US market this October. Both models are getting BMW’s dual turbocharged 3.0L inline six diesel starting this fall.
The 265-hp, 425-lb.ft. torque monster will make these vehicles among the most fuel-efficient and best performing vehicles in their class.
The BMW 335d featuring Advanced Diesel with BluePerformance for maximum output of 265 hp and peak torque of 425 lb-ft. will provide a clear and convincing demonstration of these qualities. On the road, this means acceleration from 0–62 mph in 6.2 seconds and average fuel economy of 23/33 mpg (city/highway, provisional data).
The BMW X5 xDrive35d offers sporting character through BMW Advanced Diesel with BluePerformance, while standing out as a high-torque Sports Activity Vehicle with excellent qualities for long-distance motoring. The BMW X5 xDrive35d accelerates from 0–62 mph in just 7.2 seconds and offers average fuel economy of at least 19/25 mpg (city/highway, provisional data).
BMW will announced pricing in the next couple months.
Well...it’s true! According to Bimmerfile, a website for Bmw enthusiast, the X5 will not feature a M version and this for sure is not going to happen in the future. Although spy photos of the vehicle ,which was believed to be the M version of the Bmw X5, were taken on the Nurburgring race track it looks llike that was only the sport edition of the SUV featuring the 4.8 V8 engine.
Using the same power plant as the Bmw X6, the engine of the sport edition will develop 407hp which while the top speed is going to be limited at 250 km/h. The technical specifications of the new sport edition were not yet revealed but, according to the rumors the new car will be able to sprint from 0-100 km/h in less than 6 seconds.
After recently unleashed the X5 as the X530 with brute-force 530 bhp, Lumma Design released the CLR X530 tuning kit for the diesel versions of the BMW X5.
Lumma has implemented the diesel motor tuning with its D-Power-Box. This additional electronic circuit now coaxes a generous 275 bhp out of the 3.0d, instead of the standard 235. The torque increases from 520 to a convincing 600 Nm. The 3.0sd attains performance data that makes some sports cars turn pale in comparison. This is because, a phenomenal 330 bhp, instead of 286, has been fitted and instead of 580, there are 660 Nm on the power train.
An even sportier rear appearance for the 3.0d and 3.0sd is guaranteed by LUMMA’s exhaust pipe covers, two on each side (120x95 mm). LUMMA continues to furnish the petrol versions with the complete sport exhaust system of stainless steel.

Here it is! BMW’s secret concept from Geneva: the Vision EfficientDynamics Concept, a hybrid-diesel version of the X5 SUV. Mild ActiveHybrid technology is combined with a twin-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine, a new eight-speed automatic gearbox and even roof-mounted solar panels.
The 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine in the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics uses BMW’s Variable Twin Turbo concept, third-generation common-rail injection and an all aluminium crankcase to deliver 204hp and 400Nm of torque between 2,000 and 2,250rpm. The engine is supplemented by a mild hybrid concept that delivers a further 20hp and 210Nm of torque under acceleration. As a consequence, even though the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics features a relatively small capacity engine, it delivers nearly the same levels of horsepower as the conventional X5, but offers improvements in its already class-leading consumption and emissions figures.
The mild hybrid solution in the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics uses a compact generator that, for the first time, is flange mounted directly onto the gearbox. This motor produces up to 20hp of on-demand power. In addition, BMW’s now familiar Brake Energy Regeneration is used to efficiently capture energy that would previously have been lost when the engine is on overrun. Innovatively, the alternator is also integrated into the crankcase rather than conventionally driven from the front of the engine.
If you have gotten bored of your aging X5, help is here. German tuner Hamann has released a comprehensive kit that will bring life back into your X5. Suspension, wheels, performance, interior, or aerodynamics can all be individualized according to your needs. After the transformation, the car will also get a new name- Hamann Flash.
Aspects like engine management, exhaust system, brakes, suspension, etc will be modified. The engine is tuned to give a few extra torques and horses. The suspension is tweaked to reduce the centre of gravity. A series of wheel options are also on the offer. On the inside, accessories such as an exclusive foot mat flooring in black, a foot pedal of aluminium or even an aluminium foot rest are all available. A lot of welcomed additions will definitely make your vehicle stand out from the rest.
Entering a new era in the company’s mission to deliver ultimate driving machines that combine superior performance with exemplary fuel economy, the BMW Group will debut two vehicle models equipped with the BMW Advanced Diesel with BluePerformance at the 2008 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit – the X5 xDrive35d and the 335d.
BMW of North America today announced that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded the 2008 BMW X3 and X5 the top rating of "Good" in each of its series of crash tests, earning both vehicles the Institute’s coveted TOP SAFETY PICK Award.
The lion’s share of the new, individualized appearance has been created through the new LUMMA body kit CLR X 530. It includes a front spoiler with fog lights and extravagant air intake ducts, a rear apron in diffuser-look, brawny muscular wheel arch extensions, new side sills, and logo "CLR X530". The body kit can be further enhanced with additional parts. For example, LUMMA offers a roof spoiler extension with simple adhesive application to the rear hatch upper edge.
At the Frankfurt Motor Show 2007, the BMW X5 was voted winner of the competition "autonis" - best new design 2007 - in the category off-road vehicles. The new version of the BMW X5, which was launched on the German market in March 2007, managed to assert itself well ahead of its class competitors. The result is proof that this unique Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) by BMW not only impresses through superior driving characteristics, but is also perceived by the general public as an (...)
One of the most successful cars of its class is the BMW X5. BMW only recently introduced its latest successor and HAMANN has already put together a complete program for the new X5. Hardly any area has been left untouched. Whether it’s suspension, wheels, performance, interior or aerodynamics, the Laupheim German specialists provide clear individualisation launching far above the norm. Wide-body-parts arrange an especially brawny appearace, making the X5 become the HAMANN „Flash“.
The BMW X5 is a 4x4 hero especially brilliant at urban terrain, and that calls for different accessories from a conventional off-road-vehicle. With its new range, AC Schnitzer has adapted the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) perfectly to its natural environment. Like its predecessor, the E70 is an extremely agile vehicle despite its size.
A new straight-six diesel engine with Variable Twin Turbo technology and a wide range of fuel-saving improvements also featured in all other engine variants enable the 2008 BMW X5 to present its wide range of qualities even more convincingly and with even greater impact in the
2008 model year. Developing maximum output of 210 kW/286 hp and peak torque of 580 Newton-metres/427 lb-ft, the new diesel engine gives the 2008 BMW X5 3.0sd outstanding pulling force and torque on average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle of just 8.2 litres/100 kilometres, equal to 34.4 mpg imp.
A prototype spotted in Munich certainly looks like an M version of the BMW X5. From the rear, there are four exhaust outlets – a trademark of the M series BMW vehicles. The front has larger air intakes. Also, the sound of the engine suggests that a V-10 or twin turbo V–8 is under the hood. Lastly, the tires are notably wide and low profile.
Though BMW has previously said that the X5 design does not lend itself to M version treatment, the prototype seen in Munich appears to be exactly that. (...)
