How Does This Rendering of the BMW X8 M Sit on Your Conscience?
It seems like these days there’s a rounded-rear version for every premium SUV out there. The X3 has the X4, the X5 has the X6, the GLE has the GLE Coupe, the Cayenne has the Cayenne Coupe and so on. You get the point.
Coming back to BMW’s Xs, its largest SUV to date - the X7 - is in need of a hunchback brother and that might come in the shape of the X8.But one designer went ahead and concocted what he calls the X8 M.
A New Trademark Suggest the BMW X8 and X8M Are In the Works
Rumors that BMW is planning an X8 model based on the X7 have been flying around for quite some time. The German firm has yet to officially confirm the SUV, but a recent trademark filing suggests that BMW is indeed working on the X8. The German trademark office recently published a filing from BMW for the "X8 M" moniker. Sure, trademarks are often filed to simply protect a name, but why would BMW want to protect the "X8 M" badge since there’s no X8 production model yet? Because an X8 is coming soon, obviously.
2021 BMW X8
The 2021 BMW X8 is an upcoming crossover based on the familiar X7. Rumored to arrive by the end of 2020 or in 2021, the X8 will fill another gap in BMW’s SUV lineup. Essentially an X7 with a coupe-style roof, the X8 will become BMW’s range-topping coupe-SUV, as it will slot above the X6.
BMW has yet to confirm the existence of the X8, but intel from BMWBlog claims that the vehicle is already in development with the internal designation G09 (the X7 is codenamed G07). Once it arrives, the X8 will be the eighth SUV in BMW’s lineup. What do we know about the X8? Quite a lot, and we also have a couple of renderings of the SUV’s design. A 400-Horsepower 1 Series and a Full-Out X8 M Are Just Two of the Many Things Coming from BMW
BMW’s M Division is a growing organism within the BMW ecosystem, and it seems like there’s no slowing it down. We already know that BMW has big plans to expand the performance division with more M Performance and M models on the horizon. Now, reports are coming out regarding specific models that are on the docket, including a 400-horsepower version of the 1 Series — the M1, perhaps? — a fully-blown X8M SUV, and a bespoke mid-engined coupé based on the Vision M Next that really does border on the excessive. Turns out, that word isn’t a part of BMW’s vocabulary these days, so prepare yourselves for a coming invasion of BMW M Performance and BMW M models in the near future.
Rumors of a 2020 BMW X8 Swirl Yet Again, Could Be An Ultra-Luxurious SUV
BMW just introduced the new 8 Series earlier this year, and in doing so, resurrected the 8 Series nameplate after roughly two decades on the shelf. Fans already adore the new luxury-laden grand tourer, but now it’s looking like BMW might apply some of its 8’er gloss to its SUV line as well.
