The last time we saw a G-Powered BMW->ke178 it was the M5 Hurricane RR, which ended up being the world’s fastest LPG-powered vehicle. Well, G-Power is back for a little bit more, but this time in a much smaller package: the 1M.

If the 1M and its 335-horsepower turbocharged 6-cylinder engine just isn’t enough for you, the BMW 1M G1 V8 Hurricane RS by G-Power just might be the ticket. G-Power took special care of this 1M coupe and brought it to a point that just about any auto enthusiast could be both impressed and scared to death of it at the same time.

What’s awesome, though, is the amount of careful planning that BMW put into the 1M straight from the factory had a direct relationship with the amount of power G-Power was able to crank out. BMW fitted the 1M with the front and rear axles of its M3->ke2366 counterpart, giving it the clean and stout base that the 1M needs to handle more intense power output.

So, did G-Power earn another gold star with its latest BMW modification or did it fall a little short of the precedent it set with the M5 Hurricane RR?

Updated 11/02/2012: The guys over G-Power took their latest G1 V8 Hurriance RS out for a test drive and the result was impressive: the car was able to hit a top speed of 314 km/h (195 mph). Enjoy the video!

Exterior

The exterior of the 1M is pretty much carried over to the 1G V8 Hurricane RS. The M1’s hood is replaced by a carbon-fiber unit with an M3 design, vent openings, and a “power bump.” In the rear, there is a carbon-fiber boot lip and a tear-off edge to help reduce back-end lift.

The exterior of the example car that G-Power is displaying boasts a deep bronze coat of paint, and there is no mention of any other available colors.

At the corners, you get a set of 20-inch G-power Silverstone Diamond wheels to help set off the already stylish 1M’s body.

Whether you love it or hate it, G-Power was careful to retain the overall shape and design of the 1M. We tend to like the sleeper-like looks of the 1M, so we’ll give it a thumbs up in the exterior styling department.

Interior

G-Power added a special touch to the interior, draping layers of premium leather and Alcantara to create a beautiful custom interior. The 1M’s seat cushions were reshaped to give the seats more grip and style. The example car boasts a two-tone arrangement of bronze and white, giving it an excellent contrast that goes impeccably well with the exterior color.

The entire interior is clean and clear of any clutter, but it is also distinctively luxurious – a tough task to accomplish without going overboard. Just looking at the seats makes you want to sit in them and whip this 1M around some twists.

Engine and Drivetrain

Under the hood is where G-Power took the 1M and created the G1 V8 Hurricane RS. The tuned-up vehicle is powered by a 4.0-liter V-8 powerplant borrowed from the M3. G-Power added 0.5 bar (7.25 PSI) of boost through the V-8 engine and pumped the engine’s total output to 600 horsepower and 590 Nm (435 pound-feet) of torque.

Though the overall output is impressive, to say the least, it’s the execution of this output that is so outstanding. The supercharger is tuned perfectly to deliver 40 percent more torque between 5,000 rpm and its 8,300 rpm redline. This gives you a beautiful torque snap in the mid-range engine speed that you rarely feel in any other car. Engineers studied numerous computer simulations to achieve the perfect output, making this a perfectly tuned automobile.

A cast aluminum air box using eight lightweight integral resonance induction pipes houses a racing air filter and water-to-air intercooler to help further increase the effectiveness of the supercharger and deliver precise throttle response. The engine dumps its exhaust waste through a full stainless steel exhaust system with minimal back-pressure.

The transmission is the same dual-clutch unit found in the M3, giving this G1 V8 Hurricane RS a clean and precise shift each and every time.

All of this power gets the G1 V8 Hurricane RS to 220 km/h (136.7 mph) in just 12.7 seconds and gives it a top speed of 330 km/h (205.05 mph), making it the world’s fastest 1-Series. With the standard 1M doing 0 to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, we anticipate this monster coming in closer to the 3.7-second range.

Engine and Driveline Specs:

Engine Type 4.0-Liter V-8 Supercharged
Output 600 horsepower, 435 pound-feet
Transmission 7-Speed Dual-Clutch Transmission
0 to 220 km/h (136.7 mph 12.7 Seconds
Top Speed 205.05 mph

Handling and Braking

As we said before, at the corners, you get a set of 20-inch G-Power Silverstone Diamond wheels. These wheels are wrapped up by a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, measuring 255/30ZR20 on the front and 295/25ZR20 on the rear. A G-Power Clubsport suspension package, which KW helped tune, supports the undercarriage of this 1M. This setup uses a coil-over design that allows you to independently adjust compression and rebound to get the best ride or handling, depending on your goals at that time. The Clubsport option gives you some added features, like adjustable dampers, via precise adjustments to the camber and caster through revised support bearings.

Bringing this beast to a stop is a G-Power brake system that uses 396 mm (15.59-inch) carbon-ceramic brake discs up front squeezed by a pair of 4-piston calipers. The carbon-ceramic setup helps lower the BMW’s unsprung weight by 50 percent over its traditional steel system, helping it handle better. Mov’it teamed up with G-Power to tune the braking system to always deliver maximum braking power and a consistent braking feel regardless of speeds.

Pricing and Production

There are no pricing details on the G1 V8 Hurricane yet, but details should start rolling out soon. We do know that there will only be 30 models produced in honor of G-Power’s 30th anniversary.

Conclusion

What more can we say other than the fact that this car is simply awesome. G-Power did a fantastic job taking an already nice car and tweaking it to a point that it becomes extreme. We would have liked to see a little more exterior modifications, but we do understand why G-Power kept it reserved on the outside. Besides, that luxurious interior more than makes up for the lack of modification on the outside.
