It took BMW->ke178 about a year to release the 2 Series Convertible to sit alongside the Coupe version->ke141, but now that the drop-top is here on official terms, Munich is rolling out all the goodies that come with each new model. This time around, the Germans started with the M Sport Package, a bundle that adds a touch of aggressiveness to the stylish cabriolet. It's for those looking to get more than just a plain 2 Series Convertible in terms of looks, but can do just fine without the brawnier engines of the M235i or the M2->ke3901.

As you might have already guessed, the M Sport Package leaves the drop-top's powertrain unaltered. The proven 2.0-liter, four-cylinder unit gets to keep its 240 ponies and 255 pound-feet of torque, which do an excellent job at pushing the 2 Series Convertible from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds with rear-wheel drive or 5.6 seconds with the available xDrive system.

BMW 2 Series Convertible with the M Sport Package in detail

Exterior changes aren't overwhelming in the big picture, but quite noticeable up front. The biggest novelty is the sporty bumper that replaces the regular piece found on the standard model. The M235i lends its M Sport apron with its large air intakes to give the 2 Series Convertible a more exciting look. The nose also gets a "special design" for the kidney grille. Though the photos released by BMW don't show off the difference in the grille too well, a quick zoom in on a standard 2 Series Convertible grill and the M Sport grille shows that the M Sport has eight vertical slats to the base 2 Series Convertible's eleven slats.

The 2 Series Convertible remains largely untouched around back, where BMW only added a high-gloss chrome ornament to the exhaust pipe and a diffuser-like piece under the bumper. When viewed from the side, however, the vehicle showcases a set of aerodynamically optimized side skirts. Rounding off the exterior upgrade is custom suspension tuning that drops the ride height by 0.4 inches and adds a set of 17-inch M light-alloy wheels.

Open the doors and goodies keep showing up. Aluminum door sills wearing M logos are visible right next to the sports seats, which are joined by a sliding armrest. The cabin comes with an Aluminum Hexagon trim and accent strips finished in Estoril Blue, while the leather-wrapped M steering wheel enhances the 2 Series Convertible's sporty character. A special dial design for the instrument cluster and an M driver's footrest complete the series of amenities available with the M Sport Package.

BMW 2 Series Convertible

The 2 Series Convertible is essentially a chopped off version of the Coupe. Aside from losing its metal roof, the 2 Series retains nearly every detail seen on its coupe sibling. Motivating the drop-top is BMW's already familiar turbocharged, 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine. The unit cranks out 240 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque, which allows the vehicle to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than six seconds -- the RWD version needs 5.7 seconds, while the xDrive variant gets you there in 5.6 seconds.

Pricing for the 2015 2 Series Convertible begins from $38,850. That accounts for an extra $6,750 when compared to the coupe.
