BMW makes the M760Li a little more discreet

The 2017 BMW M7760Li XDrive is obviously one luxurious sedan, and has plenty of power as well. That V-12 engine under the hood pumps out 600 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. A 0-to-62 mph time of 3.92 seconds indicates the car’s top speed of 155 mph comes rather fast. That’s good and all, but some have said the exterior is just too dramatic for a luxury sedan. If you want more of a discreet, large sedan, you would have to look elsewhere – until now.

BMW has just announced the BMW 760Li XDrive Excellence – a no cost option for those hoping for a more down to earth luxury sedan. By changing the exterior styling and adding in some chrome here and there, the 760Li XDrive Excellence has its own personality. Most changes come to the exterior of the M760Li, but there are a few changes to the interior as well. The best part is, it is a no-cost option for the M760Li, so those opting for it won’t have to pony up any extra cheddar.

Now that you know a little about this new, optional model, it’s time we take a look at it. If you’re considering going for a 7 Series anytime soon, it’s certainly worth your time to consider this package. There are enough changes to distinguish the Excellence model from the standard M760Li that it is derived from.

What makes the BMW M760Li xDrive V12 Excellence special

The first thing we notice is the Excellence model sheds the M aerodynamic package that is equipped on the standard M760Li. With the shedding of that aero kit, comes a good helping of chrome trim, well, everywhere. A chrome bar runs the full width of the car along the top of the lower air dam, and chrome strips have been added to each corner, just below the corner air intakes. In addition, the kidney grilles have a chrome surrounding with vertical louvers in chrome as well.

To the sides, chrome trim has been added to the side view mirrors, and around the door windows. The V-12 emblem at the base of the C-pillar also adds to the chrome accenting. Light-alloy, 20-inch wheels with a high-gloss finish and wrapped in 245/40-series rubber in the front and 275/35 -series tires in the rear. You can’t make them out to clearly behind those wheels, but the calipers are also painted in high-gloss black.

To the rear, we find another horizontal chrome bar under the rear deck lid, terminating on the outer taillight assemblies. The Model designation emblem has been replaced by another chrome, V-12 emblem like we saw at the base of the C-pillar. Down below, the rectangular exhaust outlets are covered in chrome, and surrounded in a chrome trim insert that visually links both exhaust outlets together.

Inside, there are only a couple changes. First, the steering wheel has been upgraded to include wood inlays. It’s a nice feature and adds to the sense of comfort inside the car. The other difference is the V-12 lettering added to the inside of the instrument cluster. I might not be much, but it adds to the appeal of the Excellence model.

There is also a high-gloss Black finish for the brake callipers. Customers choosing the V12
Excellence model can expect their BMW M760Li xDrive to feature a chrome bar extending across the full width of the car in the upper section of the air intake grille. In addition, the kidney grille bars are in Silver with chrome fronts and surrounds likewise in bright chrome. All the other trim elements on the body also come in bright chrome. In place of a model designation, the BMW M760Li xDrive V12 Excellence has a “V12” badge on the boot lid. The exhaust system’s pair of chrome, rectangular tailpipe embellishers are now framed by additional chrome trim. Inside the car, meanwhile, the BMW steering wheel features wood inlays, and the V12 lettering in the instrument cluster – whose speedometer extends as far as 260 km/h (160 mph) – illuminates when the driver fires up the engine. The comfortbiased exhaust system with its refined soundtrack also helps to accentuate the specific character of the V12 Excellence model.
