BMW M8 power for way less money!

LISTEN 03:24

The BMW M850i delivers a total of 523 horsepower, whereas the BMW M8, a total of 617 horsepower. While the difference in power is not even 100 horsepower, the difference in price between the two models - at least in Europe - is over €40,000.

For those of you who do not want to pay that much money, but still want the M8 power, the German tuner G-Power has the solution.

What changes are offered under the hood?

As we said, from the factory, the BMW M850i is powered by a 4.4-liter V-8 engine that delivers a total of 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. For those of you who want more than this, G-Power is actually offering two different levels of upgrade.

The first stage only includes the addition of the GP-620 performance software. The result? 620 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque - numbers that put the M850i right next to the M8. However, the price for this upgrade is significantly lower than the €40K difference in the price asked by BMW. For the software, the tuner is charging €2,495 ($2,770 at the current exchange rates) and for the ECU Unlock another €1,785 ($1,980).

If you want your M850i to be even more powerful than the M8, you can opt for the next level of upgrades. This package includes the GP-670 performance software combined with sport downpipes and the GP-DEEPTONE rear muffler. As a result, the output is now increased to 670 horsepower and 663 pound-feet of torque. The GP-670 performance software is priced at €3,495 ($3,880), while the GP-DEEPTONE adds another €3,927 ($4,360) - still way less than what BMW is charging.

In both cases, the top speed limiter will be deleted too, so that the M850i can now hit a top speed of 186 mph - up from the standard 155 mph.

What other updates are offered?

As usual, G-Power does a little bit more than just working under the hood of the car. With the M850i, it also wanted to update the exterior look a little bit. It started by adding a new GP-Venturi engine hood made out of carbon fiber that helps the V-8 engine breathe better. The rear will come with a GP-Dynamic Wing RR - also made from carbon fiber.

G-Power is also offering a new set of ultra-light forged wheels for the M850i. Customers can choose between either the Hurricane RR or the Hurricane RS designs in various sizes. As standard, the wheels will be offered in a jet black finish, but two diamond cut versions with partially or fully polished fronts and numerous other finishes are also offered.
