BMW Drag Racing Cars

Ever since the Toyota GR Supra came out, we have been wondering how it stacks up to some of BMW’s higher echelon of performance cars. To answer the question, Sam CarLegion has arranged for a tuned Toyota GR Supra and a BMW M4 Competition G82 to meet at the drag strip. We know the GR Supra is quite capable and has beaten much more powerful cars on the quarter-mile. Can it win this one?

Sam uploaded another fun drag race video on his YouTube channel, Sam CarLegion, this time involving a BMW 330i and a tuned Honda Civic. Well, even the 330i is slightly tuned, but not as much as the Civic. The two cars have quite a lot of differences. The Civic is mated to a CVT that powers the front wheels, whereas the BMW features an eight-cog automatic with an all-wheel-drive system. The BMW is almost 500 heavier as well. While the Civic makes 25 more horses than the Bimmer, the latter makes 60 pound-feet of torque more. But, in the end, none of it mattered because a budget family sedan on steroids beats a marque German car! How about that!

If the recent history is to go by anything, EVs always destroy internal combustion-engined cars on the drag strip. The Tesla Model S Plaid led this charge and has destroyed many beloved supercars since it came out. So, naturally, when we heard about a Tesla Model 3 Performance P3 taking on a BMW M340i, we assumed it would slaughter the latter with ease. But, in a surprising plot twist, the BMW M340i didn’t just manage to hold its ground, it actually defeated the EV in every race comprehensively. However, there was a reason why it was able to do so…

Now, if you follow us regularly, you know that we love the drag races featured on CarWow. All-electric face-offs are now a thing apparently, and the last one had the best EV sedans go up against each other.

This time, Mat Watson and his team had a bunch of all-electric crossovers, that you’d see on a typical school run, max it out on a runway. Let’s look at the contenders, shall we?

Pit the Dodge Challenger Hellcat against any car and it will be the Alpha male there. However, it faced an unlikely bully on the drag strip in the form of a tuned BMW M4. Sam from ‘Sam CarLegion’ raced a Challenger and an M4, and even though the former makes more power, it lost to the German every time they raced. Quite embarrassing for the muscle car, eh?

What happens when three different cars with the same engine, transmission, drive system, and torque figures take on each other? Mat Watson and his team from ‘Carwow’ decided to find the answers. They pit the BMW M8 Competition, the BMW M5 CS, and the BMW M5 Competition against each other for a series of drag and rolling races. Which of these three do you think wins?

Sam from ‘Sam CarLegion’ brought two fast, powerful SUVs to the drag strip for a face-off. On one corner, we had the Audi Q8, and on the other, the BMW X5. Both the SUVs are quite similar on paper, which makes this an unpredictable race. Which one do you think will win?

Mat Watson from ‘Carwow’ brought two German beasts to the drag strip for another fascinating race. This time, it’s the Audi RS5 versus the BMW M440i Gran Coupe. While the M440i is a sporty version of a regular trim, the RS5 is a full-blown performance model. The latter even makes more power and weighs less. Do you think the BMW stands a chance here?

The ‘Carwow’ team kicked off 2022 with a drag race between two entry-level EVs from Tesla and BMW – the Model 3 and the i4. Both the cars were in their sportiest trims and were out to battle each other on the drag strip. The i4 M50 makes more power, but it is also significantly heavier. Which car do you think will get the win here?

Mat Watson and his team from ’Carwow’ got four cars to the drag strip for an all-German drag race. The contenders included the Audi RS6, the BMW M5 CS, the Mercedes-AMG E63, and the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. All the cars feature V-8 engines and two turbochargers. The Porsche goes in the races with a slight advantage, thanks to the electric motor assisting the engine and helping it make the most horses here. But, it’s a double-edged sword as the motor and batteries make it the heaviest. Which car do you think will dominate the races?

The Porsche 911 is known to be a driver’s car. Lately, we’ve seen various 911 models dominate the drag strip as well. But, is the base 911 Carrera also in the same league? Mat Watson from Carwow finds out by pitting it against the BMW M3 Competition for a series of straight-line races. The BMW makes 125 horses more than the Porsche, but it is also almost 500 pounds heavier. Which car do you think will win?

The ‘Carwow’ team brought in five German cars to face each other on the drag strip. The contenders include the Audi RS3, the BMW M2, the Mercedes-AMG A45, the Porsche Cayman GTS, and the Volkswagen Golf R. All the cars have very different setups – some are naturally aspirated, some turbocharged; some are rear-wheel-drive, some all-wheel-drive – that make this an unpredictable race.
