I Saw the 2020 BMW M135i at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed and I’m Impressed

BMW showed off the front-wheel-drive-biased M135i at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed

BMW’s new, third-generation 1 Series, internally known as the F40, marks a big departure for the model because it moves from a rear-wheel-drive architecture to one that’s front-wheel drive. This not only has a big impact on how it drives, but it also means it has a new and different aesthetic vibe.

Whereas the previous-gen F20 1 Series, regardless of body style, betrayed the fact that its engine was mounted longitudinally and that power was sent to the rear wheels, the new F40 clearly has the proportions of a front-wheel-drive car. But it’s not a bad looking car by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, I got to see the top tier M135i at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed and even as I approached the BMW stand I was preparing myself for the worst, but when I actually saw the car, all my fears were dispelled.

Based on a chassis that is lower and wide than the outgoing M3 Coupe, the M4 is one mean machine that pumps an almost unfathomable amount of power form its 3.0-liter, I-6 powerplant. The car looks undeniably sexy, the product of months of work and preparation that resulted in a true one-of-a-kind Bavarian sports coupe.

Readers of the auto news site had a big hand in helping Pistonheads design the M4 Coupe. To their credit, PH readers did an impressive job on the model, giving it a unique finish you normally don’t see in a BMW M4 Coupe. The Tanzanite Blue metallic paint finish is a particularly impressive color for the M4. It’s not too flashy, but it’s one that may make you do a double-take.

But here’s the best part about the entire build. Pistonheads’ BMW M4 Individual was built specifically for Goodwood and two readers of the site were given a chance to drive the sports coupe up the famous. In addition to that, both readers also got the opportunity to drive around the circuit in other BMW models, ensuring that the experience left an indelible mark in their minds.
