2019 Bugatti La Voiture Noire

Bugatti’s latest Chiron-based hypercar pays tribute to the 1936 Type 57 Atlantic

The Bugatti La Voiture Noire is a one-off supercar based on the Chiron. Unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, it joins the Divo as a derivative from the already famous Chiron hypercar. The La Voiture Noire is a modern reinterpretation of the Type 57 SC Atlantic from the 1930s and was built to celebrate Bugatti’s 110th anniversary. Only one was made and sold for more than $12 million before taxes.

Unlike the Divo, a car that’s going to be built in 40 units, the La Voiture Noire will remain unique. This vehicle was created specifically for a Bugatti enthusiast that’s "fascinated by the Atlantic," a coupe that the French firm built in the 1930s. Despite the unique bodywork and detailing, the La Voiture Noir remains a standard Chiron under the hood, so performance is similar to the vehicle it is based on.

Its price is $18.9 million. The La Voiture Noire, a car that is a sort of a Buggati hommage to the stunning and super-rare Type 57 Atlantic, does look striking and almost otherworldly, but I am still pressed to justify its incredible value. In this article, I will explore how Bugatti can get off charging $18.9 million for the 2019 La Voiture Noire, an automobile more exclusive than the Bugatti Divo, and far more precious than the Bugatti Chiron. The $18-Million, One-Off Hypercar That Bugatti is Bringing to Geneva Could Be a Modern-Day Take on the Iconic 57 SC Atlantic

The $18-Million, One-Off Hypercar That Bugatti is Bringing to Geneva Could Be a Modern-Day Take on the Iconic 57 SC Atlantic

If that’s the case, it could be the "cheapest" Bugatti with the Atlantic name on it

Bugatti’s stand at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show is shaping up to be the go-to stand at the event now that the French automaker has let the cat out of the bag. A modern-day take on the iconic Bugatti 57 SC Atlantic is coming to Geneva, and if rumors are true, this could be the $18-million, one-off model that former Volkswagen Group chief Ferdinand Piëch commissioned Bugatti to build for him. No confirmation has been made on that front, but a 57 SC Atlantic-inspired Bugatti is bound for Geneva. That much has been confirmed by no less than the French automaker through a teaser image in its Facebook page with the description, “Jean Bugatti’s 57 SC Atlantic cannot be re-created, but what do you think? Can we translate its design language into the 21st century?” If it wasn’t clear before, it’s crystal clear now. All eyes will be on Bugatti at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

This Rendering Shows the True Potential of What Bugatti Could do with the Divo

This Rendering Shows the True Potential of What Bugatti Could do with the Divo

The open-top layout makes the Divo look almost supple

Bugatti’s bonkers track weapon, the Divo, is the Chiron’s mad brother that’s been conceived to break lap records. Sadly, Bugatti won’t chop the roof off the Divo but, if it did, you’d end up with something close to Rain Prisk’s render, a machine that’s bent on ruining your hair.

We know Bugatti builds some of the most amazing cars the world has ever seen. Since it was brought back to life under Volkswagen ownership, the company founded by Ettore Bugatti managed to put out two awe-inspiring cars: the Veyron and the Chiron. In 2018, Bugatti launched the Divo, a hypercar "built for corners" based on the Chiron but with a very different look to it. It will probably not be the last special edition spawned by the Chiron but, thus far, it’s the most ludicrous the French manufacturer put out.

Bah, Humbug: Bugatti's Gone Cold on Doing a Top Speed Run for The Chiron

Bah, Humbug: Bugatti’s Gone Cold on Doing a Top Speed Run for The Chiron

It looks like the Koenigsegg Agera RS is going to hold on to its record for a while

The world has been waiting two years for the Bugatti Chiron to post a top speed run. We’ve been teased about it before, but now it looks all that teasing will be for naught. Bugatti has now closed the door on a top speed run for the Chiron. Word of the company’s decision on the issue comes straight from the mouth of CEO Stephen Winkelmann, who said that a top speed run isn’t in any of Bugatti’s priorities at the moment. Whether that position holds true or changes remains to be seen, but if you’re looking for a threat to the Koenigsegg Agera RS’ world record top speed of 277.8 mph, that conversation, at least for now, starts and ends with the Hennessey Venom F5. Bugatti’s not joining that party, much to the dismay of everyone.
