Buick gets the sports sedan it’s been missing in its lineup

The Buick LaCrosse is getting some reinforcement in the form of a new trim model called Sport Touring. Officially referred to as the LaCross Sport Touring, this new trim option will slot in as the sportiest model in the entire LaCrosse lineup. It’s been developed to not only look the part but also perform like a performance-oriented sedan. Pricing for the Buick LaCrosse Sport Touring starts at $40,295, including $925 in destination fees.

Let’s start in the exterior where the sedan gets a monotone theme that includes a body-color grille surround

The Buick LaCrosse is, for all intents and purposes, Buick’s flagship model, so while the LaCrosse Sport Touring is technically not a special edition, it might as well be considering the number of exclusive accessories and equipment it has to offer.

Let’s start in the exterior where the sedan gets a monotone theme that includes a body-color grille surround. The Sport Touring is the only version of the LaCrosse that gets this kind of finish as all other models get the chrome treatment. The LaCrosse Sport Touring trim also gets a black mesh grille, a subtle rear spoiler, “ST” badging on the trunk lid, and a new set of 19-inch wheels. Those interested in getting the sedan will also get a choice of five different color options, including White Frost Tricoat, Satin Steel Metallic, Quicksilver Metallic, Red Quartz Tintcoat, and Ebony Twilight Metallic. None of these color options pop out when you first see them, but it the Red Quartz Tintcoat finish does look good on the performance sedan.

It features a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces 305 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque

Buick didn’t mention anything new with regards to the sedan’s interior, so expect it to still follow the same design that other versions of the LaCrosse carry. The wraparound dashboard should still be a primary design feature of the interior. Depending on the trim, interior decorative options like fine chrome and wood should also be available on the Sport Touring trim. Even the LaCrosse’s floating center console is expected to make an appearance on this new trim. There’s a lot to like about the interior of the LaCrosse. The fact that Buick decided to keep it untouched on the Sport Touring trim is a smart move on the automaker’s part.

The new LaCrosse Sport Touring trim isn’t lacking in power, either. It features a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces 305 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque, enough juice to help it sprint from 0 to 60 mph in around six seconds and hit a top speed of 155 mph.

It’s hard to undersell the importance of the LaCrosse to Buick. As the flagship model that sits second to only the Avenir trim, the Sport Touring version needs to have the kind of relevancy that other models in its segment have. A big part of that is why the company is pulling out the stops to ensure that the Sport Touring trim gets the attention it needs. “The LaCrosse exemplifies what we mean by attainable luxury, offering Buick’s signature QuietTuning, spirited and efficient performance and the latest in-car connectivity all at a tremendous value to customers,” Buick and GMC Marketing Vice President Phil Brook said.

As we mentioned, the Buick LaCrosse Sport Touring will cost a little over $40,000, fees included.

The 2019 Buick LaCrosse will add a new style statement when a new Sport Touring (ST) model joins the lineup this summer. The ST brings a monotone theme to the LaCrosse with a body color grille surround and side vents, which are finished in chrome on other models. Additionally, the ST features a subtle rear spoiler, black mesh grille, 19-inch midnight silver wheels, and “ST” badging on the trunk lid.

The 2019 LaCrosse ST features a standard 310-horsepower, 3.6L V-6 and a 9-speed automatic transmission. Pricing starts at $40,295, including a $925 destination fee, with five available exterior color options: White Frost Tricoat, Satin Steel Metallic, Quicksilver Metallic, Red Quartz Tintcoat and Ebony Twilight Metallic.

“The LaCrosse ST emphasizes the importance of design, while also complementing the safety, refinement and technology of our flagship sedan,” said Phil Brook, vice president of Buick and GMC Marketing. “The LaCrosse exemplifies what we mean by attainable luxury, offering Buick’s signature QuietTuning, spirited and efficient performance and the latest in-car connectivity all at a tremendous value to customers.”

2019 will also bring additional changes to other models in the LaCrosse lineup, including two new exterior colors, Carrageen Metallic and Pewter Metallic. A new air ionizer designed to eliminate odors and improve air quality is now standard on the Avenir model.
