The all-new 2015 Cadillac Escalade has arrived! Official images followed a posh event in New York last night, debuting the production version of the new Cadillac flagship.

After becoming quite familiar with the updates to the similar 2015 Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon Denali, it is clear that all three of these machines are vastly improved in almost every way. As the Cadillac of the line, the Escalade naturally brings the best 420-horsepower, V-8 engine and third-gen magnetic shocks as standard.

The Caddy’s exterior is defined by some striking LED lighting front and back. Luxury details abound inside the cabin, including special leathers and better seats than its cheaper siblings. Offered as a gurgling rear-drive or refined all-wheel-drive setup in regular or ESV sizes, the new Escalade is faster, smoother and more efficient than ever before.

The Escalade is still the king of the road in many places, and the new grille is certainly enough to grab some flash bulbs. This big truck looks great versus the previous three generations of Cadillac full-size SUVs. With pricing and dimensions that put most other SUVs in "time out," the Escalade is tipped for pricing between $65,000 and $95,000 when it arrives in early Spring 2014.

2020 Cadillac Escalade

2020 Cadillac Escalade

The fourth-generation Cadillac Escalade went into production in early 2014, and while it’s not exactly old, it’s a bit dated compared to the more modern Lincoln Navigator. But Cadillac is looking to fix that with a new-generation model that’s rumored to arrive in 2019.

The new Escalade was initially scheduled to arrive early next year, but development was slowed down by a late decision to ditch the solid rear axle in favor of an independent suspension. It seems that Cadillac finally decided to give the Escalade, its most profitable model, a proper makeover.

Unfortunately, the SUV will continue to share underpinnings with the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon, meaning that it will still use a truck platform. The good news is that GM is also preparing massive upgrades for its next-gen pickups, so the Escalade will be less of truck and more of an SUV. Most details are still under wraps, but let’s discuss what we already know about it, the latest rumors, as well as the rendering that our very own artist created.

6 American SUVs That Still Feature Body-on-Frame Construction

Six American heavy hitters in an overcrowded segment

There once was a time when body-on-frame SUVs were common sights. But with the advent of unibody car-based bodies, we don’t see too many of the old body-on-frame SUVs anymore. There are still some SUVs in the market whose bodies and frames are two separate entities, so it’s not like you’re absent of any choices if this is the kind of SUV you want. The Cadillac Escalade, Jeep Wrangler, GMC Yukon, Ford Expedition, Chevrolet Tahoe, and Chevrolet Suburban are still considered body-on-frame SUVs, making them extremely useful in the outdoors. So what exactly do these six SUVs have to offer? Read on and find out.

Video of the Day: Watch This Cadillac Escalade Outrun a Camaro ZL1 1LE

Hennessey gives this ‘Slade a new heart with outlandish power

Hennessey Performance is known for building over-the-top power upgrades for already quick performance vehicles. The company’s latest project is no different – an 800-horsepower Cadillac Escalade with its HPE800 package

Oh, and it’ll outrun a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE on an unprepped drag strip.

The video shows the run from multiple angles as the 5,700-pound, three-row SUV hooks up off the starting line and outguns the Camaro. The Caddy’s advantage is its hand-built, stroked 6.8-liter V-8 stacked with a supercharger. Matching its 805 horsepower at 5,500 rpm is an equally impressive 812 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. Traction isn’t an issue thanks to its full-time 4WD system that provides a spin-free launch.

Here, in this one run, the Escalade pulls several car lengths on the Camaro. Now, it’s clear the 650-horsepower Camaro ZL1 1LE didn’t get a clean start off the line. The driver compensated for wheel spin at the line with less throttle, thereby not letting the supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V-8 give its full muscle. The Caddy just walked on by.

GM Announces Recall on 2007-2011 Full-size Trucks & SUVs

GM Announces Recall on 2007-2011 Full-size Trucks & SUVs

Chevy, GMC, and Cadillac affected; GM says vehicles “safe to drive today.”

General Motors has announced more vehicles associated with the Takata airbag scandal, this time involving full-size trucks and SUVs from the 2007 to 2011 model years. GM says the affected vehicles are “safe to drive today,” but should be repaired as soon as owners are notified replacement parts are available.

The recall includes the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Avalanche, Tahoe and Suburban from the 2007 through 2011 model year. Their GMC counterparts are included as well, making the 2007 through 2011 Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL under recall. The same is true for the 2007 through 2011 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade EXT, and Escalade ESV.

Likewise, Chevy and GMC HD trucks are under recall. Specifically, the Silverado 2500 and 3500, along with the Sierra 2500 and 3500 truck from 2007 and 2008 are included.

The issue stems from the passenger-side front airbag’s propellant, the chemical agent that inflates the airbag upon a collision. Over time, heat and humidity can degrade the propellant inside the airbag inflator, causing the inflator to rupture if the airbag deploys. These affected airbags reportedly came with propellant but no drying agent designed to stabilize the explosive agent.

GM says it has no reports of inflators rupturing in these vehicles as of May 2016, covering an estimated 44,000 airbag deployments.

As with any safety recall, the repairs will be done for free by local dealerships. Owners of these vehicles can expect to be contacted by GM, but can proactively search for any active recall notifications on their vehicles’ VIN on GM’s website, www.gmtakataairbag.com.

2015 Cadillac Escalade - Driven

2015 Cadillac Escalade - Driven

Traveling in style is pretty easy these days with luxury cars now breaking into the upper-$20,000 price range, but for those who feel that size matters when it comes to true luxury, there are still plenty of land yachts on the market. And when it comes to big luxury, few vehicles do it as well as the 2015 Cadillac Escalade. This luxury behemoth is an icon among wealthy motorists – even if their last name isn’t Kardashian or they’re not “real housewives” – and to see just how important this SUV is to Cadillac, consider the fact that the Escalade name is the only real name left in the luxury brand’s lineup, while monikers like Eldorado, Seville and deVille have since been killed off.

As such, the fourth-generation Escalade pulls out all the stops and is loaded with improved luxury, better styling and more cabin tech, but Cadillac had even more changes in store for its flagship vehicle. Shortly after its launch last year, the 2015 Cadillac received a few updates, including the latest Cadillac badge as well as the eight-speed automatic, and that’s exactly the model that showed up for me to review. Now my neighbors are used to seeing some high-end vehicles cycle through my driveway, but the 2015 Cadillac Escalade seemed to garner a little bit more attention than usual.

Cadillac Escalade Selling Like Hot Cakes – ATS And CTS Not So Much

Cadillac Escalade Selling Like Hot Cakes – ATS And CTS Not So Much

It turns out that GM can’t build the Cadillac Escalade fast enough, as the huge demand has increased sales in January by 149 percent over last year. The opposite is happening with both the ATS and the CTS though, with Cadillac dealers offering huge discounts in order to get rid of old stock.

To give you an idea, a Seattle dealer is offering 2014 Cadillac ATS models at up to $12,000 off a sticker price that starts at $33,215 MSRP, while others are cutting as much as $17,500 off the sticker price for a 2014 CTS, which officially starts at $45,345 MSRP. On the other hand, the 2015 Cadillac Escalades – which start at a hefty $72,970 MSRP – are flying off the lots.

The GM truck factory where both the Escalade and its ESV version is manufactured alongside Chevrolet and GMC models, has been running on three shifts and weekend overtime for several months to keep up with the demand. That said, it seems that the ongoing plan of rebuilding the Cadillac brand may have encountered hiccups, as the hot-selling Escalade is not enough to increase the carmaker’s prestige and overall sales significantly.

Video: Cadillac Escalade HPE550 Vs. Stock Version

Video: Cadillac Escalade HPE550 Vs. Stock Version

The 2015 Cadillac Escalade is one of largest and boxiest full-size SUVs nowadays. I’m not saying it is not stylish, but that thing is huge, heavy and seemingly slow, but once its 420-horsepower V-8 comes to life, the Escalade is anything but slow. In fact, it takes only 6.4 seconds to charge from naught to 60 mph, which is faster than a Subaru BRZ or Scion FR-S, and it reaches the end of a quarter-mile strip in 14.8 seconds.

On the other hand, we know that some potential buyers would like the 2015 Escalade to be a tad quicker. This is where Hennessey Performance and its HPE550 package comes in. The upgrade places a supercharger atop the 6.2-liter V-8 and adds performance-enhancing parts, including a high-flow intercooling system. The result? Output goes up to a whopping 552 ponies and 565 pound-feet of torque, while it 0-to-60-mph drops to 4.9 seconds. Although the Texas-based company hasn’t released quarter-mile figures yet, it’s safe to assume the Escalade HPE550 is in the low 13-second range.

One thing’s for sure, the supercharged Escalade is definitely faster than a base model, and the video above proves just that. Hit the play button to find out why Hennessey charges a $15,950 premium to tweak the 2015 Escalade.

2015 Cadillac Escalade Platinum Collection

2015 Cadillac Escalade Platinum Collection

The Cadillac Escalade may have lost its pop-culture credibility in recent years, but it’s still a popular SUV by all accounts. The launch of the all-new 2015 model continues a proud tradition for the American automaker. But Cadillac still didn’t take long to offer numerous enhancements to the just-launched Escalade when it announced the launch of the range-topping Escalade Platinum Collection.

As you can expect, the Platinum Collection has a lot of shiny, new hand-crafted luxury additions to both the exterior and interior of this hulking luxury SUV, providing new incentives for buyers to toss moolah in Cadillac’s direction. That’s what customers are expected to receive with the new Escalade Platinum Edition and yet, it’s not the only change Cadillac has given to the new Escalade.

Equally important updates come in the form of new tech features for the entire Escalade range, beginning with the base model all the way to the Platinum Collection. A new eight-speed automatic transmission is now standard on all models, replacing the six-speed automatic version that came with the first wave of 2015 Escalade models. The new batch of luxury SUVs will also receive 4G LTE connectivity with a WiFi hotspot courtesy of OnStar, as well as the Surround View technology that provides a bird’s-eye view of the immediate vicinity surrounding the Escalade.

It’s a little surprising that Cadillac already has updates for the Escalade so soon after the new model was launched. It’s unlikely we’ll see the Escalade receive the same pop culture treatment it once did, but for what it’s worth, this luxury SUV will continue to have a place in the market now and in the future.

Video: 2015 Cadillac Escalade HPE550 by Hennessey Dyno Test

With 420 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque on tap, the 2015 Cadillac Escalade is one of the most powerful luxury SUVs on the market. However, we’re aware that some drivers, would be happier with more ponies sent to the wheels. Those fellows have the option of supercharging the 6.2-liter V-8 with help from Hennessey Performance and its HPE550 upgrade.

The update adds many performance parts to the engine, including a high-flow intercooling system, gaskets and other hardware. But, more importantly, it takes its output up to a whopping 552 horsepower and 565 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to push it from naught to 60 mph in about 4.9 seconds, nearly a two-second improvement over the standard Escalade. Needless to say, it should keep most power-addicted SUV drivers pretty happy.

We might have to wait a while longer to see one of these beefed-up Escalades in action, but in the meantime, Hennessey Performance has release some dyno footage with the SUV revved to its limit. If you need your daily dose of supercharger whine, you’ve come to the right place. Hit the play button above and pump up the volume.

2016 Cadillac Escalade Vsport

2016 Cadillac Escalade Vsport

The Cadillac Escalade really doesn’t need an introduction. Even the most oblivious, non-car-enthusiast consumer could easily identify — and lust after — an Escalade. Car shoppers buy Tahoes and Yukons, which the Escalade is based on, because they need them to tow boats, carry gear, and haul large families around in. Other individuals buy the Escalade simply because they want it. Seeing as a loaded-out Yukon Denali can top $70,000, what’s the big deal to pay a few grand more for the Caddy? A nicely-equipped, four-wheel-drive model can be yours for $75,290.

The new-for-2015 Escalade has been well-received by critics. The undisputed king-of-bling in this segment, combining sharp, polarizing styling, a plenty-powerful, 420-horsepower V-8, and, finally, a gorgeous interior worthy of the price. Dealers will likely not be able to keep these on their lots.

However, that isn’t stopping Cadillac from possibly introducing a few new variants in the next year or so. Cadillac is reportedly considering a Vsport edition, likely powered by the 3.6-liter, twin-turbocharged V-6. Expect more than the current 420 horsepower it provides for the CTS Vsport. Even a turbodiesel V-6 could be in the works.

2015 Cadillac Escalade HPE550 By Hennessey

2015 Cadillac Escalade HPE550 By Hennessey

With 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque at its disposal, the brand-new 2015 Cadillac Escalade leads the full-size luxury SUV segment in terms of power. But if that’s not enough for you, then you’ll be happy to learn that the folks over at Hennessey Performance have taken the V-8’s output even further.

Using its new HPE550 package, the Texas-based specialist upgraded the 6.2-liter mill to deliver 557 horsepower and 542 pound-feet of torque, which translates into 32 percent and 18 percent increases respectively. As with most Hennessey tweaks, the package also includes an air-to-water intercooler system and engine management recalibration.

In a conversation with John Hennessey, the company expects one-second faster 0-to-60 and quarter-mile times, but they won’t have the official numbers until testing is completed in late-May 2014. By our estimates, this would put it at around five seconds flat. We will bring you the official numbers as soon as they become available. Top speed, however, will likely not be affected by the HPE550 kit, due to the electronic limiter on the Escalade.

The SUV’s exterior, however, remains unchanged, save for a set of lightweight Hennessey H10 forged, monoblock wheels that can be ordered separately for a hefty $6,950. The 20-inch rollers are supposed to allow more power to reach the pavement, thanks to their reduced rotating mass, which could mean a slight acceleration improvement.

2015 Cadillac Escalade - First Impressions

We’ve brought you all the important details about Cadillac’s newest flagship SUV: the totally new 2015 Escalade and Escalade ESV. Now we bring you live images and our first impressions of the beastly, all-American luxury SUV.

Over the weekend at the Miami International Auto Show, we had the chance to climb inside the completely redesigned Escalade to see the improvements first hand. The Escalade is based on its GM cousins, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, along with the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL. Across the board, the interiors are much improved in regards to roominess and use of space. Finally for the first time, the full-size General Motors SUVs have folding rear seats that allow for a flat load floor.

The second row has grown two inches in the footwell for added ease of entry and exit for taller, larger-footed passengers. Their height won’t be a problem inside either, as headroom is quite generous throughout the cabin. The Escalade we sampled was equipped with the second-row captains chairs. The center aisle was wide enough for easy access to the third row and the nearly flat floor kept tripping hazards to the minimum.

Up front, the driver is treated to the same huge TFT display found in the Cadillac CTS and XTS. Real wood trim is abundant and contrasts nicely with the soft leather seating. Fit and finish is unmatched by any Cadillacs of past. Gaps and seams were tight even and intricate details abound throughout the cabin. The details continue outside with etched Cadillac crests appearing within the clear plastic tail lamps.

Such details were a welcome addition to what will assuredly be a home run for General Motors.

2015 Cadillac Escalade

2015 Cadillac Escalade

The Cadillac Escalade has always been a love-it-or-hate-it type of vehicle, thanks to its awesome styling but terrible fuel economy. Sales have been falling off lately and incoming CAFÉ regulations are really putting the squeeze on GM to increase the overall fuel economy of its sole luxury automaker. This led to talks of the Escalade getting the axe in coming years, but apparently GM is not ready to throw in the towel yet.

Reports are pointing to an all-new Cadillac Escalade arriving in 2014 as an early-2015 model year. Instead of Caddy going the direction that many other SUV builders have gone, it will keep the Escalade on a truck frame, whereas many builders are changing SUVs to sit upon car platforms. This means that the 2015 Escalade will ride on the same platform as the soon-to-be released new Chevy Silverado and Sierra.

Unfortunately, we have nothing to really offer except speculation on the incoming Chevy and GMC trucks, as we have only seen heavily camouflaged models. All we can say for certain is that the Cadillac will share the same platform as its pickup brethren. Some experts are anticipating a change in the Silverado/Sierra twins that rivals the 1996 space shuttle treatment that the F-150 received. If this is the case, we can also expect a vastly redesigned Escalade.

We also know that GM has to work on the fuel economy of this luxury SUV to help it meet CAFÉ regulations in the future and the 18 highway mpg that the 2012 Escalade gets is simply not going to cut it. Look for GM to develop an engine that rivals the Ford’s EcoBoost V-6, like the 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine that has been mentioned, and toss it into the Escalade. The only other option would be to go turbo diesel, which may not sit well with Cadillac owners.

We will continue to bring you more information as it becomes available on the upcoming 2015 Escalade.

Updated 9/23/2013: Cadillac has unveiled a pair of teaser images of the 2015 Escalade, and it announced that it will reveal the 2015 Escalade on October 7, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. EST. Updated 10/01/2013: With just a few days before its official debut, Cadillac unveiled a new teaser image, this time revealing the interior of the 2015 Escalade. 2014 Cadillac Escalade

2014 Cadillac Escalade

The Cadillac Escalade is a legend in multiple segments: as a celebrity limousine, a wealthy outdoorsman’s shuttle and do-it-all hauler for large families. These core attributes continue for the new model year with detail revisions to the LED lights front and back and two new grille designs in the higher-dollar models.

The Cadillac’s exterior style and enhanced image is the main justification for its prices at the very top of the GM SUV line that also includes the Chevrolet Suburban and the GMC Yukon. The Escalade also has unique interior trims, much better noise/vibration/harshness ratings and top-level performance to match its flashy chrome exterior.

The Cadillac brings serious levels of style, luxury and power with a better drivetrain than its cheaper siblings, standard air suspension with electronically adjustable dampers and even magnetic ride control on the top Platinum model.

So the Escalade is a shortcut to get the most loaded truck possible. Making most options standard at the Cadillac’s $65,000 base price also ratchets up the competition to the seven-passenger Range Rover Sport, the Infiniti QX56 and the aging Lincoln Navigator.

Does the flagship Cadillac SUV still capture buyer wants and needs in the final years before its replacement in 2015?

Not a month goes by without Turn 10 Studios releasing a car pack for its avid video game racers. For January, the developer of the Forza Motorsports franchise will be releasing the newest car pack for its latest video game offering: Forza Horizon.

Dubbed the “Recaro Car Pack,” the new downloadable content will include the usual smorgasbord of vehicles, highlighted by the 2012 Lexus LF-A Nürburgring Edition. In addition to the gnarly Japanese supercar, the Recaro Car Pack will also include the 2012 Lotus Exige S, the 2012 Cadillac Escalade, the 2005 Mercedes SLR, the 1995 Ford Mustang Cobra R, and, oddly enough, the 1983 GMC Vandura G-1500.

The Recaro Car Pack will go live and be up for download on January 1, 2013. As is always the case, the car pack can be had for a reasonable amount of just 400 MS Points. But if you’re a Forza Horizon Season Pass holder, you get the pack for free and on top of that, get free dibs on a 2009 Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster.

Sounds like a sweet deal to us.

Car Infographics: Automotive Fantasy Football Lineup

Okay, so there are two things that I really love, besides my family and close friends, of course. Those two things are cars (obviously) and football. With my love of football comes my love of fantasy football, much to my wife’s chagrin.

Well, the folks over at Shopautoweek have taken both of my loves and put them together in the form of automotive fantasy football. They chose a lineup of cars to make up the offensive side of a football team.

The team consists of a full assortment of offensive linemen, which you actually don’t have in most fantasy football leagues: a quarterback, fullback, running back, tight end, and two wide receivers. They even went as far as putting out a scouring report listing why they selected each car for these respective positions.

We do disagree with some of their selections, but overall it is a good effort. So check out the full infographic after the jump and let us know in the comments section what cars you would put on your team.

Aspiring presidential candidates are already busy gearing up for the 2012 elections with hopes of becoming the most powerful man in the U.S. It’s a dirty job, but somebody has to do it, and luckily they have a presidential limo that can withstand the job.

At first glance, the Cadillac One just looks like a modified Cadillac DTS, but General Motors did not actually assign the presidential state car a specific model name. This may be due to the fact that it carries many different components from many different GM models, including Cadillac Escalade headlights, side mirrors, and door handles; Cadillac STS sedan taillights and back up lights; and what looks to be the GMC Topkick commercial truck’s chassis and driveline. GM went through a lot of trouble building the perfect presidential vehicle, but what happens to the car after the base build is what makes it capable of keeping our president utterly and unbelievably safe.

For starters, the car’s chassis has a 5" reinforced steel plate that runs underneath the car in case a bomb finds its way there. Then the entire bodywork is a combination of dual hardness steel, aluminum, titanium, and ceramic which breaks up projectiles upon impact. The doors and gas tank are armour plated, but the gas tank also receives a specially designed foam that prevents it from exploding. The tires are Kevlar reinforced and are shred and puncture resistant. If anyone successfully tears them apart, the steel rims underneath the tires will allow them to get the Cadillac One to safety.

The Cadillac One also has a number of accessories that enable it to solve problems quicker than they come around, including night vision cameras, pump action shotguns, tear gas cannons, and blood. Yes, that’s right. The Cadillac One is equipped with bottles of the president’s blood just in case he gets hurt and needs a blood transfusion. Take that, suckers!

Check back with us soon to find more interesting tidbits as part of our Car Infographics series.

2007 - 2011 Cadillac Escalade by Hennessey

2007 - 2011 Cadillac Escalade by Hennessey

On paper, a race against a Japanese buzzsaw called the Cadillac Escalade SUV and the ’Godzilla’ Nissan GT-R, doesn’t seem like a fair fight, especially when you consider that the ’fight’ is actually a 0-60 mph test to see which vehicle can hit the mark first. On one end, you have the Japanese buzzsaw called the Nissan GT-R, a car that has earned the nickname, ’Godzilla’. Can a three-ton SUV whose hulking mass is enough to drag itself down compete against the faster GT-R? Hennessey has made sure of it.

This mismatch was given a fair shake by the folks over at Hennessey, which gave the Escalade an HPE1000 performance upgrade, getting the 6,000lb SUV’s 6.2L engine a total of 1008bhp at 5,900rpm and 967 lb-ft of torque at 3,700 rpm. This was done with a forged & balanced 427 cid LSX engine, high flow cylinder heads, a Hennessey HPE1000 camshaft, an intake manifold upgrade, upgraded fuel injectors, an upgraded fuel system (pump, lines, and Rails), twin ball bearing turbochargers, and much more.

With the playing field somewhat leveled, the two protagonists took to an isolated country road to find out which vehicle can smoke the other. To our surprise, the Escalade, which is more than twice as heavy as the GT-R, managed to outpace the Japanese supercar by the slimmest of margins - one-tenth of a second - with a time of 3.3 seconds compared to Godzilla’s 3.4-second time.

While we’re not totally blown away by the result considering the ’assistance’ the Escalade got from Hennessey, the mere fact that a mammoth of an SUV can actually outpace a powerful Japanese rocket really got us thinking just how dementedly brilliant the people over at Hennessey are.

Check out the video to watch the proceedings and hit the jump to see the full specifications for the Cadillac Escalade by Hennessey.

2011 Cadillac Escalade by Becker

2011 Cadillac Escalade by Becker

The Cadillac Escalade serves many purposes for the brand. For starters, it is their largest offering in the SUV segment and has become a best seller. Ever since it was first introduced as a meagerly disguised GMC Yukon the car has been a hit. It effectively saved the Cadillac brand in association with their razor edge styling that is now seen on all the models in the lineup. A favorite choice of celebrities, musicians, and athletes alike, the Escalade has become a status symbol and was immediately accepted by the “in crowd.”

As time has gone on the Escalade lineup has come to include three models with a pickup and extended wheelbase version being added. As the SUV market has been hit hard by the recession, the Escalade too suffered, but has remained alive. Its closest competition in nearly every aspect, the Lincoln Navigator, has struggled much more than the Cadillac and will cease production sooner rather than later.

Cadillac has been able to keep this vehicle moving forward, but some VIP clients still expect more. When a Range Rover is too small and a large scale van is not classy enough, Becker Automotive Design is there to take your Escalade to the next level. After this company gets done with their conversion, the Escalade has been transformed into a Gulfstream 5 for the road.

Hit the jump for more details on the Becker Escalade Conversion.

2011 Cadillac Escalade Platinum Edition

There’s big…and then there’s really big.

When it comes to SUVs, nobody does it bigger – and as some would say, better – than Cadillac and the hulking Escalade. The SUV has been one of the most popular Cadillac models in recent years, as evidenced by the enormous sales success it’s gotten here in the US. You only need to watch TV to realize that just about every celebrity is sporting an Escalade in one form or another.

The reception of the Escalade in the US isn’t the same in Europe and while the blame can mostly be placed on an incredible number of consumer choices, Cadillac is still hoping that their prized SUV gets to work across the pond.

With the new Cadillac Escalade Platinum Edition, they may have found the vehicle that can compete with the Range Rovers, X5s, and Cayennes of the world. Whether the car becomes a hit remains up in the air, but given the upgrades Cadillac put on this special edition SUV, we’re pretty sure that they like their chances.

The Next Cadillac Escalade, will it look like this?

The Next Cadillac Escalade, will it look like this?

A few days ago Cadillac confirmed plans for a large crossover based on the GM’s Lambda platform architecture. Recent rumors suggest that this new model might replace the larger Escalade.

Now, you might say that these are two totally different models, but because Cadillac will have to focus on the more stringent fuel-efficiency standards on the way, the Escalade may need to be replaced anyway. Enter the large crossover.

The new model will offer more interior space and should tow enough to satisfy most owners in the class. However if you really must have more capability, a more traditional body-on-frame Escalade ESV will remain in the lineup. Sources also say the new crossover will have the face of the 2010 Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show this year.

Naomi Campbell involved in Escalade altercation with her driver

Naomi Campbell involved in Escalade altercation with her driver

For all the good vibes and positive press Naomi Campbell received for her partnership with Lotus in helping raise money for the people of Haiti, she pretty much threw away in a slight fit of anger.

Reports are now coming in that Naomi Campbell is wanted by the NYPD for questioning regarding an incident with her driver as they were driving through New York City. This, apparently, all stems from allegations made by the driver that Campbell struck him so hard that his face slammed against the steering of the Cadillac Escalade he was driving the supermodel in.

The driver then stopped the car and reported the incident to a traffic enforcer, at which point Campbell had already left the Escalade on foot.

Video: Chinese media creates CGI re-enactment of Tiger Woods’ crash

By now, the whole world has probably been captivated by the whole ‘Tiger Woods crash’ escapade and while we’ve all been given everything but a full confession from Woods, the Chinese media decided to create a CGI re-enactment of what could have happened between Tiger and his wife Elin. Although it’s never been confirmed that this re-enactment was what actually happened, it still pretty cool to watch.

The only thing we find ourselves cringing is their depiction of the Cadillac Escalade Woods crashed during the whole ordeal. Last time we checked, the Escalade doesn’t look like a Hyundai Starex. But then again, we appreciate the effort of the Chinese media’s ‘conspiracy theory’.

2009 First impression: Cadilllac Escalade Hybrid

Top Speed’s test fleet recently received a 2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid from General Motors. This oversized people mover seems more like another way to make a statement about being excessive while still thinking about the environment. The Cadillac is as luxurious as anything from the General is at the moment, with its 332 HP 6.0 Liter V8 and electric motor spinning a set of 22 inch chrome wheels, it will be nice to experience the lifestyle first hand.

The interior of our Escalade is comfortable and luxurious, adequate for $70,000 worth of extravagance and technology. From the driver’s seat you can enjoy an 8 inch navigation screen with everything from back up camera to nice little animation about what the Hybrid two-mode system is doing. The rear seat passengers should appreciate the flip down Panasonic DVD screen and Bose 5.1 surround sound system. The combination of wood on the center stack, steering wheel and armrest is nicely contrasted by the brushed aluminum piece in front of the passenger.

2009 Cadillac Escalade Platinum Hybrid

The big new from Cadillac’s big ’ol Escalade last year was the introduction of the Escalade Hybrid model. The other introduction, that got less press, was the introduction of a Platinum Edition, which included LED headlamps and Cadillac’s adaptable Magnetic Ride Control system.

Now General Motors has combined the two. The Escalade Platinum Hybrid takes advantage of the two-mode system developed by GM, and then adds elements like 22-inch wheels, Aniline leather and TV screens in the front headrest. It’s like Cadillac is saying, “Just ’cause your bling-bling don’t mean you don’t care about the environment, homey.”

Next Escalade will go Lambda?

Next Escalade will go Lambda?

As a sign of more-gas frugal times, even the Escalade, an SUV known for is uncompromising size and power may go on a diet. The next generation large SUV from Cadillac may move to the Lambda platform.

GM currently uses the platform to build the Chevrolet Traverse, Saturn Outlook, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave, so a Cadillac on the same platform would make economical sense. The platform should be able to handle a larger car because GM had considered, but cancelled, a V-8-powered Enclave Super. Cadillac could use a V-8, in this case a small block, since the Northstar replacement that was supposed to power the Enclave Super also has been canceled.

GM also announced the company is considering a unibody pickup as hinted by the GMC Denali XT concept, to replace the EXT and Chevy Avalanche.
