In attempt to give German sedans such as the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and the Audi A4 a run for their money, Cadillac launched its smallest vehicle yet — the ATS— for the 2013 model year. The sedan was quickly followed by the ATS Coupe, which was aimed at the BMW 4 Series and the Audi A5. For 2016, Caddy gave both the sedan and coupe the V treatment expanding the ATS lineup to include competition for the BMW M, Mercedes-AMG and Audi RS cars.

Now that the performance compact is finally in dealerships, the brand is rolling out a special-edition model that celebrates "the ongoing launch of the first-ever Cadillac ATS-V." Dubbed Crystal White Frost Edition, and available for both the sedan and coupe, the bundle consists of several options and two packages offered as standard equipment. As the name suggests, both models can only be had in the Crystal White Frost exterior paint.

The recently redesigned Cadillac CTS-V also benefits from a similar package.

Pricing for the Crystal White Frost Edition starts at $71,460 for the sedan and $73,660 for the coupe, which accounts for a $10,995 premium for both models. Is this bundle worth the extra $11K? Keep reading to find out.

What Makes the Crystal White Frost Edition Special?

While all the features offered as standard with this special-edition model can also be purchased with any ATS-V, the exterior paint is exclusive to this package only. Cadillac says the color is "a special production run" of a low-gloss hue, which means it should be different than the Crystal White Tricoat already available as an option. Comparing the two reveals the shades are indeed different, but not by much.

Paint aside, the Crystal White Frost comes with the optional 18-inch, polished wheels and two packages.

First up is the Carbon Fiber package, which adds a carbon-fiber front splitter, hood vent, and rear diffuser, as well as composite black rocker extensions and a composite body-colored rear spoiler. The bundle makes the ATS-V Crystal White Frost a bit lighter than the standard model and enhances its appearance, thanks to the high contrast between the white paint and the carbon-fiber details.

The second package included with the special-edition model is the Luxury Package. Unlike the Carbon Package, this one enhances the car’s convenience features by adding a CUE infotainment system with access to Apple CarPlay and navigation, GM’s Universal Home Remote, split-folding rear seats (for the sedan only), a 110-volt power outlet, and sport alloy pedals. This bundle also adds high intensity discharge (HID) headlamps with Adaptive Forward Lighting and LED vertical light signatures.

According to the vehicle’s online configurator, the Crystal White Frost is essentially a standard ATS-V equipped with options worth $8,000, minus the special color, which isn’t available for the regular car. A standard ATS-V Sedan fitted with the options, wheels and the two packages costs $69,860 (including destination), while the Coupe fetches $71,660. This would leave $1,600 and $2,000, respectively for the special paint, which is a lot given the most expensive paint options cost $995.

All told, the Crystal White Frost isn’t much of a special edition, but a well-appointed ATS-V with an exclusive paint job.

The Cadillac ATS-V was launched in 2015 for the 2016 model year as a high-performance version of the ATS. The upgrade is available for both the sedan and the coupe. Like most performance-oriented iterations, the ATS-V sports a more aggressive exterior that is focused on improved aerodynamics, and a bespoke interior with either standard sports seats or optional Recaro units, carbon-fiber inserts, handcrafted elements, a specific instrument cluster, and microfiber inserts.

Motivation comes from a twin-turbo, 3.6-liter, V-6 rated at 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque. It is mated to either a six-speed manual with Active Rev Match, or an eight-speed automatic with Performance Algorithm Shift. Both units feature a launch control system. Charging from 0 to 60 mph takes only 3.9 seconds, while top speed sits at 185 mph.
