Cadillac is taking a page out of BMW’s playbook by rolling out a pair of special edition versions of the CTS-V and ATS-V in the wake of winning the 2017 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s premier Prototype class. The two models, called the Championship Editions, are limited to just 200 total units and will be available this month in Cadillac dealerships.

The American automaker’s success in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship included winning the 2017 Manufacturers’ title. It’s a remarkable achievement considering that it happened in the company’s return to endurance racing after a 14-year absence. In addition to the Manufacturers’ title, Caddy also played a role in helping Konica Minolta, one of the three teams that raced the DPi-V.R prototype race car, win the Teams’ title. Drivers Ricky and Jordan Taylor also took home trophies after winning the series’ Driver’s title.

The troika of championship wins spurred Cadillac to roll out the CTS-V Championship Edition and the ATS-V Championship Edition Coupe. The two special edition models feature commemorative nods to Cadillac’s successful return to endurance racing, including special graphics, packages, and driving instruction sessions at the V-Performance Academy in Nevada.

What makes the Cadillac ATS-V & CTS-V Championship Editions special

Let’s take a look at the Cadillac CTS-V Championship Edition first. The CTS-V is arguably the most prominent of Cadillac’s performance models so it’s not hard to imagine why it received a special edition model. Prospective buyers have a choice of getting the CTS-V Championship Edition in either white or black. Regardless of the color, red accents are included, specifically on the hood, side mirror caps, and even the brake calipers. Cadillac is also throwing in a carbon fiber pack on the SE model. This explains why the CTS-V Championship Edition looks muscular than its standard counterpart. The package includes a new front spoiler, a hood vent, rear spoiler, and rear diffuser.

Move to the interior and you’ll be greeted by a Morello Red interior detail package that comes loaded with the good stuff. A pair of Recaro seats has taken the respective places of the standard front seats. The front and rear door armrests are now dressed in red and the cabin gets treated to a nice helping of Morello accented high gloss carbon fiber trim. The automaker also added a Performance Data Recorder on the special edition model.

The CTS-V Championship Edition also has exclusive features that its ATS-V counterpart doesn’t have. These include a large sunroof, a Luxury package, and a set of special 19-inch wheels.

Now let’s take a look at the Cadillac ATS-V Championship Edition. On the surface, the special edition ATS-V gets the same features as its CTS-V counterpart. It’s also available in two body colors — white and black — and has matching red accents in the same places as the CTS-V Championship Edition. It’s the same story in the interior where a Morello Red interior detail package greets would-be owners of the SE performance sedan. The same list of items included in the package is also present in the ATS-V Championship Edition. These include the Recaro sports seats in the front, the red front and rear dorm armrests, and the high gloss carbon fiber trim. The ATS-V Championship Edition also gets its own exclusive touches, none more noticeable than the sunroof and the set of 18-inch wheels.

Unfortunately, that’s the extent of features that both special edition Cadillacs have as neither of the two models carry power and performance upgrades. That means that the Cadillac ATS-V Championship Edition is still powered by a 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine that produces 464 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. The CTS-V, however, gets a heart-thumping 6.2-liter V-8 mill that’s been supercharged to produce 640 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque.

Pricing for the Cadillac ATS-V Championship Edition starts at $72,190 for the sedan version and $74,390 for the coupe version. If you’re itching to get the CTS-V Championship Edition, you’re going to have to spend more for it because it has a price tag of $105,730. Neither of the two special edition models counts as cheap in my eyes, but they’ve earned their right to be expensive on account of their special edition labels.
