Henry Leland founded "Cadillac Automobile Company" on 22 August 1902. It was named after French explorer Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, Sieur de Cadillac, who founded Detroit in 1701. 2022 marks Cadillac's 120th anniversary, and, to mark the event the company launched the 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing 120th Anniversary Edition.

It will be limited to only 120 units, each numbered with a year in Cadillac’s history. The first unit - number 1902 was auctioned this weekend at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach auction for the impressive amount of $250,000.

What makes the 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing 120th Anniversary Edition special?

The new 120th Anniversary Edition will offer a series of exclusive features that will make each vehicle a one-of-one creation. First of all, each unit will get a VIN serialization of the commemorative year between 1902 and 2022. The same commemorative year will be placed on a unique sill plate, on the B-pillar builders’ plate, and the steering wheel. The models equipped with a manual transmission will also feature a special shifter medallion with a 120th-anniversary commemoration logo. Each unit will also be offered with a certificate of authenticity and a driving experience at the Spring Mountain V-Performance Academy.

“The second edition of the Collector’s Series celebrates storytelling and craftsmanship for the discerning individual,” said Brandon Vivian, Cadillac executive chief engineer. “The 120th Anniversary of Cadillac is represented by unique content celebrating each individual year in the 120 years of Cadillac innovation.”

No changes were made under the hood, which means the 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing 120th Anniversary Edition will be powered by the same supercharged, 6.2-liter V-8 engine that delivers 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque. These numbers make the Blackwing model almost twice more powerful than the standard CT5-V which features a 3.0-liter V-6 rated at 335 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.

The Blackwing is also offered with either a standard six-speed manual gearbox or an available 10-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission. It sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds and up to a top speed of 202 mph.
