The Range-Topping Cadillac CT5-V Will Have a V-8, But Not the One You Want
There’s been a lot of talk regarding what the top-dog Cadillac CT5-V will hide under the hood, with the likely candidate being Caddy’s new Blackwing 4.2-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine. A recent report, however, suggests that the CT5-V range-topper will indeed get a V-8 engine, but it won’t be Blackwing-badged. It’s safe to say we didn’t expect that, but for now, we’re also taking this with a pinch of salt until official word comes from Cadillac to confirm or deny the rumors.

Cadillac might be all about luxury (and SUVs, these days) but there’s one thing it’s always done right, and that’s high-powered sports cars. I’m talking about, of course, the V-series lineup. In this case, I’m talking specifically about the ATS-V Coupe and its 3.6-liter V-6 that’s good for 464 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. Even better yet, it’s a true sports coupe with power sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission and a 3.73 rear axle. Cadillac didn’t just give it a few good selling points either. It can be optioned with a 2.85 rear axle, a performance data and video recorder, and Recaro performance seats if you’re so inclined. To make things even better, it comes standard with Brembo performance brakes in the front and rear, a Bose audio system, and an electronically limited slip differential. It’s a true beast and competes easily with the BMW M4 and Audi RS5.

The ATS-V is one of the more-anticipated Caddys since the completely redesigned CTS made itself seen at the 2013 New York Auto Show. It’s not too hard to predict what this M3/M4 fighter will bring to the party, but there is still a slight debate on what will power it. Essentially everyone agrees that the ATS-V will use the 3.6-liter, twin-boosted V-6 that we all fell in love with in the CTS Vsport, but there is some disagreement on how much power it will have. Some folks claim it sill carry the same 420 horses and 430 pound-feet of twist as the CTS Vsport, but some — myself included — think Caddy will boost its power slightly to better battle the M3 and M4.
According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, we will not have to wait much longer to find out what it’s packing, as the sedan version will debut at the 2014 LA Auto Show. The LA show kicks off for the press on November 19, 2014,meaning we will see it in just a few month’s time.
Unfortunately, only the four-door model will show its face in the City of Angels, as the two-door M4 fighter will wait until 2015 to make its debut.

The Cadillac CTS-V Wagon is a road-thumping powerhouse that is probably unfairly judged because its a wagon. Despite its old-school looks that are in need of more than just an update, the vehicle is still pretty appealing. Similar to the coupe and sedan versions, the CTS-V Wagon is the kind of vehicle that enthusiasts are likely to fall in line for.
The big issue for the CTS-V Wagon are its outdated aesthetics, but these may be addressed sooner than later now that the all-new CTS Sedan has officially broken cover.
But even with the new-look CTS-V Wagon still at least a year away from arriving, you’ll still get what you’ll pay for with current generation look. It’s significantly less expensive than it’s rivals and more importantly, its ridiculous 500-horsepower performance puts it right in line with some of the top models in its class.

It’s another year of waiting for the Cadillac CTS-V Sedan before it gets its new looks, so for now, the high-performance luxury sedan is content selling its performance capabilities packaged with last-generation’s styling That, essentially, is the conundrum for the CTS-V Sedan. Talks of a new look gained some steam with the introduction of the next-generation CTS Sedan, and it’s likely that the CTS-V Sedan will follow suit next year, and inherit the new CTS styling.
For now, though, this is what customers are going to get, and while it may be a smarter move to just sit and wait for the new CTS-V, it’s not like this model has completely lost all its appeal.
It still performs like a muscle car disguised in a luxury sedan’s body, and its aesthetics still look pretty good, despite getting up there in age.

Okay, let’s start with the not-so-cool stuff… Cadillac’s new CEO, Robert Ferguson, announced recently that Cadillac is considering two new models. The first of the two is a large flagship model to do battle with the likes of the BMW 7-Series and the Mercedes S-Class. While that’s all well and good, we want to hear the more exciting side of this pair of potential new models.
For the second model, we need to have a look back at the 2009 model year, which was the final year of the relative flop that was the XLR and XLR-V – Cadillac’s Corvette-based sports car. It was cool looking, but ultimately it was way ahead of its time in Cadillac’s brand overhaul and in its base format was relatively slow (6 seconds to 60 mph).
According to Cadillac’s CEO, an all-new two-seat sports car is “being considered.” With the CTS and CTS-V doing pretty well in the lineup and performance luxury cars becoming more popular, we think this is an awesome idea. Add in the fact that Cadillac’s image has officially been changed to and accepted as a luxury car maker with a little bit of pop under its hood and Cadillac may be sitting on solid gold.
You see, even the XLR-V and its 4.4-liter V-8 could only muster up a 443 horsepower and a 4.6-second sprint to 60 mph, but retailed at nearly $100K. Now with the CTS-V pumping out 556 horsepower, hitting 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds, and carrying a $63K base price, a new Caddy roadster could step right in, borrow some components from the CTS-V and make a run at the likes of the Jaguar F-Type and others.
While this is all still speculation, we can’t help but be excited by even the potential of a performance roadster in the Cadillac lineup. Stay tuned!
Hennessey is one of our favorite supercar builders of all times. Its engineers take cars that are already exciting, like the Lotus Elise, and turn them into monsters, like the Venom GT. Hennessey has again broken its own mold by taking a Cadillac CTS-V, an already bad-ass ride, and converting it into the VR1200 Twin Turbo Coupe.
This monster is fresh off of the press too, as Hennessey has just revealed all of its features and specifications. As expected from Hennessey, it produces incredible horsepower, torque, and speed numbers, plus it boasts extreme body modifications.
The real test is whether this VR1200 Twin Turbo Coupe really belongs in the Hennessey lineup and if it’s prepared to slay the likes of the Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini Aventador, and the rest of the top supercars.

The Cadillac CTS-V is already one of the most bad-ass Cadillacs every built and one of the most awesome luxury cars available. It’s supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine pumps out a stout 556 horsepower and 551 pound-feet of torque straight from the dealer. If you find these supercar-like numbers a little sub-par for your driving style, Lingenfelter Performance Engineering (LPE) has a solution for you.
LPE has recently released a trio of kits that cover all CTS-V models from 2009 through 2012. Will.i.am has again made it onto our radar. This time, however, it’s not for another disastrous customization that he pawns off as a “new model” in his supposed “car company.” This time around, Will.i.am slammed a Cadillac worth ₤100,000 ($157,830 at current exchange rates) into a parked car.
The first thing we are trying to figure out is what Cadillac Will.i.am has that costs ₤100,000. The most expensive Caddy available in the U.K. now is the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe, and that only runs about ₤85,000, including the VAT. The only other car we can come up with is an older XLR-V, which is the likely culprit.
Fortunately, the pop star escaped the accident with only a bloody nose and whiplash, as did his passenger, Cheryl Cole. The crash took place at about 3:30 am, following a recording session, and the details are still rather sketchy. We’re not too sure what exactly cause the wreck, but we are upset to learn that the parked car was not his “I.am Auto Concept car (AKA a thoroughly thrashed and trashed Delorean).
According to the report, only I.am’s air bag inflated and Cole hit something slightly less forgiving than the air bag – the dashboard. We’ll keep an eye out fir a cause if the accident here, but it’s doubtful that we will hear one.
There were rumors abound a while back that the new-for-2013 Cadillac ATS would be a new base for a “V” model Cadillac. Then rumors began floating around about an ATS coupe. Both rumors pretty much just faded away and we all tucked them in the back of our brains.
Well, TheDetroitBureau has renewed these rumors in a recent report, where they said that Cadillac officials are seriously discussing the ATS-V, and that its production is a near certainty. According to the report, the only squabble preventing a green light is the debate on what kind of engine to put in it. Some Cadillac brass is saying a V-8 engine is the way to go, while other swear by a V-6 engine with forced induction – supercharged or turbocharged.
Once that is all hammered out, we can start planning to see the ATS-V shortly. The ATS coupe and convertible options are still in early discussion phase, but are being considered. A convertible ATS would replace the failed XLR Roadster and the coupe version would give the luxury automaker a well-rounded list of cars to compete with Lincoln, Infiniti, Lexus and BMW.
As we said, these are still rumors and talk amongst GM higher ups, so there is still a chance that the coupe and convertible will never come. The ATS-V, on the other hand, is almost a near certainty. All the GM brass needs to do is pick an engine that’s best suited for the chassis and it’s good to go.

On the surface, the Chevy Volt is actually a pretty good looking car, if you are able to ignore the fact that it pumps out only 149 horsepower from its paltry1.4-liter engine and uses an electric motor for 30 miles before the gas engine ever kicks in. We’re not trying to say it’s a sports car, but it could certainly fall into the sports sedan area.
Unfortunately, we come right back to that 149 ponies and that immediately disqualifies this otherwise stylish car from sniffing the sports sedan segment. Well, GM obviously has noted the potential for the Volt and rumors are now swirling around that Chevy will start installing the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that the all-new Buick Verano T is receiving into the Volt.
As of now, this is still a rumor, but given that the Cadillac ELR and its sexy exterior is due to debut any time now and will likely ride on the same platform as the Volt, it only makes sense to use the powerful boosted 2.0. The ELR with only 149 horsepower would be like dumping a Civic Si engine in a Ferrari, it just doesn’t quite fit the looks.
We are uncertain if the Volt receives the full-powered version of the 2.0-liter engine, or a detuned model, it will mean that the Volt could push up to 270 horsepower, if it receives the full-power 2.0. Also floating around is a rumor that this new engine will receive a larger electric motor for a little extra gasoline-free oomph.
All we can say is that we truly hope that these rumors are true, as the Volt in its current form is underwhelming, to say the least. We’ll keep you updated as more details roll out on this possible upgrade.
Many years ago, you may recall hopping in grandpap’s Eldorado, Fleetwood, or Deville and taking a nice cushiony ride on the highway. When the Northstar engine came about in the mid-1990s we all started to see Cadillacs actually putting out some respectable performance numbers to go along with their couch-like ride. The lid started coming off of the Cadillac performance sedans in 2003, when the automaker released the CTS. In 2004, when the 400-horsepower CTS-V came out, all hell broke loose.
By the 2012 model year, the CTS-V had morphed into a 556-horsepower, supercharged sub-supercar. For some people, however, 556 horsepower just isn’t quite enough. This is where the Cadillac tuners at D3 come into play, literally. They took two CTS-Vs and converted them into 1,500-horsepower supercars that are primed to bring havoc upon any road they are on.
So what does D3 do? They hand the keys to INDY Car driver J.R. Hildebrand and Formula D driver Tyler McQuarrie, of course! These two racers took these 1,500 horsepower luxury cars down to the Long Beach street circuit and stretched out these Caddy’s legs a little.
By stretching their legs we mean smoldering the tires to oblivion and getting it on video (above). The tire smoldering and supercharger whining is aplenty in these videos, but there is one thing that is slightly more impressive. An amateur video was also released that showed the cameramen filming these two Caddys and watching these dudes put their bodies at risk just to get a good shot. That takes a rather big brass set, if you ask us; an even bigger set than playing with a few CTS-Vs on ‘roids.

America has been known for many years as the "land of opportunity", now it can be known as the "land of the insane engineering." This change of title is due to a car which defies convention and could be considered the Bell X-1 of tuned sedans. This vehicle truly breaks down what is possible in the tuning market and plows a new path. This seminal vehicle is the 2012 Hennessey Twin Turbo V1000 CTS-V Coupe. The guys over at Hennessey were the only people to look at the 2012 Cadillac CTS-V and think "ya know, we need to make it as powerful as a medium sized ICBM," and the outcome is simply staggering.
This latest offering from the Texas based tuning company boasts 1,000 horsepower and 950 ft/lbs of torque. This will push the sports car to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and will allow it to do the quarter mile in 10.9 seconds at 136 mph. All this while pushing it all the way to a top speed of 230 mph.
If you’re screaming "I want one!", you will have to a right a large check (somewhere north of 150K). You will also have to be quick because only 12 are being made. If you are lucky enough to have this automotive Hulk, you will undoubtedly love to get under the skin of other super car owners. They will roll their eyes at this pauper, but as soon as you press the loud pedal, you will definitely give their Mercedes SLS AMG and Ferrari 458 Italia models a fright.

Ford and Chevrolet have been competing since the beginning and with today’s challenging economic times, the rivalry has grown even more fierce. It was not so long ago that car dealerships were selling hundreds of vehicles a day and running out of inventory. Ford and Chevrolet could produce any vehicle of any quality level and have it be a top seller. As the consumer has grown more conscious and more knowledgeable, the business of selling automobiles has grown more difficult.
It is hard to negate the fact that the American auto manufacturers have made leaps and bounds in terms of quality and sustainability for the vehicles they produce. These companies have begun to emerge from the financial crisis and are plotting their return to dominance. New marketing tactics have helped lead the charge and get the consumer thinking about their products. One of the best ways to do this is by having the consumer be able to test the vehicles in a non-sales environment.
At the Barrett Jackson auction in Orange County, both Ford and Chevrolet had ride and drive events set up to stimulate the car enthusiasts at the auction. Without paying any money or being hassled by a greasy car salesman, I was able to test drive the full range of new General Motors products as well as several different Ford rides. After completing some test drives, I was then whipped around the track by a professional driver in a Corvette ZR1 which left little doubt in my mind that these companies know how to show off their stuff.

Well Bob Lutz laid down his V-Series Challenge and Cadillac seems to have retained their title of the world’s fastest sport sedan, with a little help from their friends of course. Owners of factory tuned fast four doors were invited to the Monticello Motor Club just outside of New York City and take on the CTS-V in a fast lap competition against the General Motors Vice Chairman, Bob Lutz, as well as a few seasoned racers and friends of GM like Brian Redman, Aaron Link and John Heinricy. Throwing a wrench into Cadillac’s plans was Skip Barber graduate Michael Cooper and his four door BMW M3, although the New York native is no professional, he did manage to finish right behind GM’s trio of road course ringers. Either way Cadillac did prove that the CTS-V can go fast, even with Bob Lutz behind the wheel, and everyone in attendance had more than they can seem to remember. In a time where consumers are more concerned with efficiency than outright lap times, it is nice to see that there are still automaker’s that are giving high performance driving enthusiasts exactly what they are asking for. Even more importantly, it shows that they still know how to have fun.
Resting in the shadows of the award winning Converj concept car, Cadillac was showing off a piece of their production car finest, another award winner, the Cadillac CTS-V. The dark grey super sedan took Top Speed’s car of the year award last year thanks to its practical four door layout and ability to take up to five from 0 to 60 MPH in 3.9 seconds because of the 556 HP 6.2 Liter supercharged V8 sitting under the power bulge in the hood. The mid size sport sedan will be defending the honor of General Motors later on this week at New York state’s Monticello Motor Club as GM’s knight in shining armor because of King Lutz’s challenge.
Recently Bob Lutz, General Motors Vice Chairman, issued a challenge to the world in which he hopes to prove that the Cadillac CTS-V is hands down the fastest four door sports car on the market today. Unfortunately as a consequence of General Motor’s recent fiscal restructuring, their High Performance Vehicle Operations team was temporarily disbanded and put to work on everyday people movers. However this new spy shot thanks to our friends at Left Lane News, it looks like the supercharged Cadillac CTS-V is back on track to go on sale sometime in 2010. We had heard rumors of a possible V powered wagon, these photos of the two door model are giving us hope that there will be much more to come.
Giving away the fact that the camouflage wearing coupe is a BMW M3 fighting high performance V-series model are the: Cadillac crested large wire grill that shines through the plastic mesh covering, power dome in the hood that covers the blown 6.2 Liter LSA V8 that is good for a total of 556 HP and 551 ft-lb of torque and a rather meaty looking center mounted dual exhaust to finish off the upscale muscle car theme of the Cadillac V-Series lineup.
However the single largest aspect of the production ready looking CTS-V coupe mule that gives it away as a V-Series, aside from the taped up emblems on the doors, is the running gear. Only one other car in the General Motors catalog wears a set of wheels like those, and especially with a beefy set of brake calipers underneath. Due to the fact that the Pontiac G8 GXP doesn’t have much of a future, despite being such a wonderful automobile, is that this CTS-V coupe is looking more and more like a production car.
