The Range-Topping Cadillac CT5-V Will Have a V-8, But Not the One You Want
There’s been a lot of talk regarding what the top-dog Cadillac CT5-V will hide under the hood, with the likely candidate being Caddy’s new Blackwing 4.2-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine. A recent report, however, suggests that the CT5-V range-topper will indeed get a V-8 engine, but it won’t be Blackwing-badged. It’s safe to say we didn’t expect that, but for now, we’re also taking this with a pinch of salt until official word comes from Cadillac to confirm or deny the rumors.

Cadillac showed off its new XT6, three-row crossover at the 2019 Detroit auto show, but its debut took place at a private event prior to the kickoff of the Detroit Auto Show. GM Will Debut Something at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show, but It’s Not the 2020 C8 Chevy Corvette
The 2019 Detroit Auto Show is very nearly here, and we’ve been getting a steady stream of updates on some of the latest and greatest slated to show. Near the top of the list is the new Cadillac XT6, which looks to bolster Cadillac’s lineup with a more profitable crossover replacement for its current line of sedans. And although that’s exactly what Caddy needs to bolster sales, we were hoping to instead catch a glimpse of the new mid-engined C8 Corvette.
The Cadillac brand has been on the mend as of late, following many years of sliding sales due to a lack of exciting cars. The brand built its V-Series lineup to attract a younger following, but the styling was too dated to garner much interest. Now with the new 2015 Cadillac ATS and 2014 Cadillac CTS, and the upcoming 2016 Cadillac CT6 already in the fold, Cadillac has turned its attention to the 2014 Cadillac SRX midsize crossover; more specifically, its replacement, the XT5.
With the SRX sliding nearly 6 percent in overall sales in 2014, the midsize crossover is in desperate need of an overhaul. Keeping true to his promise when he took over Cadillac, Johan de Nysschen will change the name of the SRX to the XT5 when the redesigned model arrives at dealers. With a new name, new look, and new engine lineup, can the XT5 help bring Cadillac back to the top of the luxury car heap?
Updated 02/10/2016: Cadillac announced that the new XT5 will arrive in U.S. dealerships in early-April. Prices will range from $38,995 for the base version and up to $62,500 for the highest XT5 Platinum level.

Cadillac’s latest edition of the CTS sedan builds off the high benchmark set by 2014’s generation change. Now in its third generation, the CTS is a formidable opponent to the German and Japanese rivals. Debuting for the first time in 2003, the CTS brought Cadillac’s ‘Art and Science’ theme to the forefront with an interesting, angular design that not only looked futuristic, but helped revitalize the brand’s dying appeal.
The CTS’s second generation built an empire atop the foundations laid. With a more luxurious feel and a beautifully trimmed interior, the 2008 became a true competitor in the sport luxury class. Things got even better in 2014 with the third generation CTS. The trend continued in 2015 thanks to a slight refresh that included a revised grille and an updated Caddy emblem. Updates arrive for 2016 as well, though it’s much more extensive. They include new wheels, a 360-degree camera system, and updated powertrains.
The CTS already has a bevy of telecommunications and connectivity additions, including OnStar with 4G LTE and built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless phone charging, along with an revised version of the Cadillac CUE infotainment system.
The new Cadillac crest debuted for 2015 as well, helping finalize the brand’s transition from your grandfather’s ride to its modern, vogue decedent. Gone is the wreath surrounding the crest. Now the crest is wider and shorter for a more youthful appearance.
Updated 10/13/2015: Cadillac announced that for the 2016 model year the CTS will receive an all-new 3.6L direct injection V-6 engine combined with a new eight-speed automatic transmission. There are also three new exterior colors, and revised interior color and trim combinations.

Cadillac recently dropped a press release in our inbox that contained plans to offer advanced “intelligent and connected” vehicle technologies on some 2017 model year vehicles. Naturally, our curiosity kicked in because words like “intelligent” and “connected” have become even more important in today’s auto industry. So we read through the release and found some nuggets of information that indicated what Caddy’s got up its sleeve.
The first technological advancement will be an advanced driver assist technology called Super Cruise. A yet-to-be-named 2017 Cadillac will feature this new system, which will offer customers improved driving experience through hands-off lane following, braking and speed control in certain highway driving conditions. Super Cruise is being developed to become a boon for drivers, specifically those driving on highways under a variety of road conditions. The description’s pretty interesting, although it’s hard to judge how effective it’s going to be until we see it in action.
Moving on, Cadillac also announced that the 2017 CTS Sedan will feature vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication technology. According to the automaker, this new system is supposed to improve traffic congestion by sending and receiving safety information between vehicles that are approaching each other. It’s going to be like these cars will be able to talk to each other and warn drivers of incoming road conditions that they can avoid beforehand.
We’re not sure how that’s going to work on surface streets, but on the highway, drivers can use these kinds of information to divert their routes before they get stuck in traffic.
That’s pretty cool.

The Cadillac CTS was not the best-received model that the luxury automaker released when it debuted back in 2008. Despite its lukewarm reception, it has grown on buyers and has really blossomed into quite the staple in Caddy’s lineup. Now, at the 2013 New York International Auto Show, Cadillac has unveiled the third-generation CTS Sedan, but no coupe model yet.
Unfortunately for Cadillac, the images had leaked several days before the model actually debuted, so we already knew what it would look like. However, there are still plenty of details left unknown. For example, we have no clue what model will receive that sexy, sexy twin-turbocharged V-6 engine. We also have no clue what features the new CTS will include.
Well, all of the mysteries can be laid to rest today, as Cadillac has officially released all of the information on the upcoming CTS.

Updated 9/27/2013: Cadillac has unveiled the configurator for the 2014 CTS. The models starts off at $45,100 and caps off with a fully loaded CTS Vsport model at $72,300. Check out the configurator for yourself here.

The Cadillac CTS-V’s history started back in 2008 and hit a monstrous peak when it became the first production four-door on street tires to break the legendary eight-minute barrier at Germany’s famed Nurburgring. In four years, the CTS-V sedan has managed to steal many customers from its German competitors due to its stylish look and exceptional performance. The 2013 model year will continue the success laid out in the previous model years with only minor additions to increase function.
For 2013, the CTS-V will continue being powered by the 6.2 liter supercharged V8 engine that delivers a total of 556 HP and a peak torque of 551 lb.-ft. of torque - the most powerful engine in Cadillac’s history. The engine is mated to either a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual with a dual-disc clutch or a Hydra-Matic 6L90 six-speed automatic with steering wheel-mounted shift controls. The only changes will be the addition of two-piece front brake rotors and red Brembo brake calipers.
These performance adjustments will also come with a new exterior color - Glacier Blue Metallic - as well as a few exterior changes such as a larger grille to enable more air intake and a raised hood that encompasses the supercharged engine beneath it.

With the calendar turning over a new page to 2012, the very first major auto show is set to open its doors in Detroit when the North American International Auto Show welcomes automakers - both local and foreign - to the Motor City.
This year, American brands are coming to Detroit in full force where they will be joined by a number of international automakers in presenting a steady diet of concept cars, production debuts, and just about everything else in between.
Among the notable debuts set to take place include the brand-new 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL, as well as the 2013 Bentley Continental GT V8. German automaker Porsche has also penciled in the 911 Cabriolet for the festivities, while Lexus will be on-hand to display the intriguing and mysterious LF-LC 2+2 sports coupe concept.
As for the local contingent, Ford is leading the way with the premiere of the Fusion global mid-size sedan while Dodge is set to introduce their Alfa Romeo Giulietta-based compact sedan, the Dart.

Ford and Chevrolet have been competing since the beginning and with today’s challenging economic times, the rivalry has grown even more fierce. It was not so long ago that car dealerships were selling hundreds of vehicles a day and running out of inventory. Ford and Chevrolet could produce any vehicle of any quality level and have it be a top seller. As the consumer has grown more conscious and more knowledgeable, the business of selling automobiles has grown more difficult.
It is hard to negate the fact that the American auto manufacturers have made leaps and bounds in terms of quality and sustainability for the vehicles they produce. These companies have begun to emerge from the financial crisis and are plotting their return to dominance. New marketing tactics have helped lead the charge and get the consumer thinking about their products. One of the best ways to do this is by having the consumer be able to test the vehicles in a non-sales environment.
At the Barrett Jackson auction in Orange County, both Ford and Chevrolet had ride and drive events set up to stimulate the car enthusiasts at the auction. Without paying any money or being hassled by a greasy car salesman, I was able to test drive the full range of new General Motors products as well as several different Ford rides. After completing some test drives, I was then whipped around the track by a professional driver in a Corvette ZR1 which left little doubt in my mind that these companies know how to show off their stuff.

Americans love their wagons. Actually, that’s not true in the slightest. Americans hate wagons for some odd reason. Instead, they love crossovers that are about as fun to drive as a horse and buggy. Nonetheless, Cadillac thought it would give the wagon thing a go, hoping that they could succeed where BMW and Mercedes failed. For those anoraks out there, this is the first time in the company’s 106-year history that they have built a wagon, or estate as some call it.
While some estates offer maximum cargo space, the Cadillac went for a more stylistic approach. It’s only 1.25-inches taller and about 200 pounds heavier. It’s like wearing flip flops in the winter, simply a fashion thing and not practical in any way. The look is deceiving though, as Cadillac has stretched the taillights to a total of three feet. They’ve also added roof racks and, of course, no Cadillac would be complete without chrome.
