The Cullinan is the first-ever SUV that Rolls-Royce has produced. As is with all the cars from the marque, this, too, reeks of luxury from every corner. Other than the fantastic features, the luxury SUV also comes with a big V-12 engine with enough grunt to make everyone move out of its way.

Although the engine specs and body style inspire enough confidence for you to make the Cullinan do hardcore ‘things’, do you think you can get this 6,000-pound beast to drift? Well, the answer is yes; unless you get a heart-attack doing it, or even watching it for that matter.

The Cullinan Refuses To Drift

The folks at Autocar took the Rolls-Royce Cullinan out for a spin; quite literally. Mind you, this is no ordinary Cullinan. It is the new Black Badge Edition that starts at $380,000 - $55,00 more than the standard version.

. But it sure makes for a fun video. In all honesty, the Cullinan did not technically perform a conventional drift. In fact, the initial attempts to make its rear axle slip din not yield many results, despite turning off the traction and stability controls. This holds true for both wet and dry tracks. However, the Cullinan Black Badge was able to do some donuts on a road filled with dirt, which offered lesser grip. Can you classify donuts as drifting? We’ll leave that up to you.

While the “drifting” looked fun, the Cullinan clearly isn’t used to such antics. The cranky kid born with a silver spoon in its mouth was quick to throw up an error message that basically asked the driver to calm down and drive it sedately. Rolls-Royce vehicles are classy and sophisticated, but the automaker needs to let them induce some fun every once in a while.

Even though the V-12 has enough power to make this heavy SUV do all sorts of ‘fun’ stuff, the Brits made sure the electronic nannies stop it before it can inflict any sort of damage.

What Makes The Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge Special?

Speaking of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge, it comes packed with the same 6.75-liter, V-12 engine as the standard Cullinan. However, it receives a power boost.

.

The regular Cullinan is capable of doing a 0-60 mph sprint in 4.9 seconds before the speed governor kicks in and prohibits the vehicle from going beyond 155 mph. Rolls-Royce hasn’t announced the figures for the Cullinan Black Badge yet, but it is certainly quicker.

As for the features, Rolls-Royce has taken things to a whole new level. With all the optional add-ons available for the Black Badge edition, the SUV is unarguably the most luxurious SUV built to date. On the outside, the chrome grille, Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament, and a few other bits and bobs receive a high-gloss black chrome finish. The 22-inch wheels get a new design and red brake calipers.

Remember the starry headliner from the other Rolls-Royce cars? If not, it is basically a headliner with 1,344 fiber optic cables all throughout that makes the roof look like a night sky full of stars. On the Black Badge Cullinan, the company takes it up a notch by adding shooting stars.

There are also subtle details like carbon fiber inserts around the dash and center console, individual screens for the rear passengers that even feature multiple controls for the SUV, lambswool floor mats, a refrigerator with RR-carved glasses, and so on.

Load it up with all the optional equipment and the price will be up by almost $100,000 over the Black Badge’s starting price. So, if you want a fully-spec’d Rolls Royce Cullinan Black Badge – the poshest the company has to offer – be ready to shell out $480,000.

Final Thoughts

Getting back to the video, I hope that Rolls-Royce starts building vehicles that also add to the fun quotient. They have the tools, but just need to lighten up a little and let people have fun with these wonderful machines. Do you think you would ever drift or do donuts in your Rolls-Royce?
