Race car technology has come a long way, allowing race car drivers to walk away from accidents that would have been utterly disastrous just a couple of decades ago. With that in mind, technology has also allowed us to relive some of those crazy moments time and time again, and that’s exactly what we’re doing here today – looking at the top 10 Le Mans crashes of all time! As a fair warning, these are some pretty scary looking crashes, and the opening video isn’t anything to joke about, but it’s worth watching as it goes to show just how dangerous the sport can be and how fast things can go awry at high speed.
Video of the Day: Best Supercar Show Off Fail Compilation
It seems like people don’t understand that there’s a time and place to play and that the road isn’t it. Sure, Mustang drivers come to mind (I know, it’s getting old, right?) but in reality, we see just as many supercar owners failing miserably as they try to showboat their precious, powerful cars. It’s nice to be wealthy, I’m sure, but apparently, it isn’t enough to be seen in your cool car, you have to show off what it can do. Well, in this video there’s a big handful of idiots who probably knew more about the money they spent than how to drive what they bought. And, it shows. For the record, not all of the cars shown here are “supercars,” but each one of them was served a life-sized piece of karma that will certainly hit the wallet, be it at the repair shop, with the insurance company, or in court after being sued or arrested for reckless endangerment. Anyway, the video is below. Check it out and let us know what you think!
Video of the Day: Idiots Overtaking Cars at the Worst Possible Moment
Here in the States, we don’t need to overtake other drivers via an oncoming lane as we have a huge network of highways. But it’s not like that in some places of the world, where main routes of long-distance transportation are more like country roads here – long, two-lane roads with bi-directional traffic. Naturally, you have to overtake someone from time to time but in busier areas of the road it happens a lot more often, and there’s always a turd in the punch bowl. In other words, there’s always some idiot that’s in so much of a rush; they can’t be bothered with waiting for a safe time to pass. That’s what this video of the day is all about – idiots who make bad decisions at the worst times. Not all idiots in this video cause car accidents but some do. The important thing to take away from this: Don’t be a retard and wait for a safe time to pass.
Someone Brutally Destroyed a McLaren 720S and Left it for Dead
It seems like once a week there’s some idiot in a supercar trying to be a hero. Usually, it results in destroying said supercar along with plenty of other property too. Such things can easily rack up $1 million or more in damages. On the plus side, we usually get to see a video of said idiot trying to be a hero. That isn’t the case today, but we do get to see the aftermath and all we can say is “WOW.” Apparently, someone needs to McLaren one hell of a thank you letters as the Monocage II structure definitely saved their lives.
What actually happened seems to be a bit of a mystery, but the drive was obviously hauling ass and, apparently, narrowly missed ending up in a deep ravine. One side of the car is at least recognizable while the flipping of the car literally sheered the passenger side door and one of the wheels right from the car. Believe it or not, the passengers walked away, although they probably had some pretty thick brown stains in their undergarments.
One other thing to point out is what the hell is going on with the rest of the supercars on the scene? Do they all have a radar for this kind of thing? It’s like all of the other supercar drivers in the area just had to show up and look at what their future might be if they don’t keep all four on the pavement. It’s like a makeshift funeral for a 720S that’s had a better day. In fact, there’s more supercars and supercar owners than police on the scene. Just what the hell is going in in Las Vegas?
For what it’s worth, the passengers of the car turned up at a local hospital with minor injuries that includes scrapes, cuts, and bruises. But, the point is, there was no serious injury. That just speaks volume towards how well the 720S is built. And, while it’s sad to see another McLaren come to an early death, it’s pretty cool to see just how well they are really built. For those of you who happen to own a supercar, this is why you drive them at full girth on the track. Don’t do it on the road, even in the middle of the desert. And, if you do, please make sure someone is recording so we can see it happen and not just the aftermath.
If you’re someone who just can’t stand seeing a BMW (I’m talking to you Mercedes fan boys) you’re going to find this video near orgasmic. If you’re a BMW fan, however, you might as well grab the tissues because you’re probably going to ball your eyes out. Go ahead and hit play, if you dare…
Video of the Day: More Idiots Caught on Dash Cam Because We Can’t Get Enough
So many accidents are avoidable and yet there’s a near-endless supply of new videos on Youtube. This one is from January of 2018 and has some footage we haven’t seen yet. Go ahead and check it out, then talk all the smack you want in the comments section below.
There is So Much Confusion Surrounding Gender, Even this Camaro Thought it was a Mustang
Remember the half a dozen Ford Mustangs that crashed into each other after leaving a car meet in Dubai a few weeks ago? That incident gave us a year’s worth of equity in referring to it every time a crash of that sort happens again. Well, it didn’t take long for the ’Stang’s nemesis, the Chevrolet Camaro, to pull a Mustang when it got involved in a crash of its own after leaving an auto show in the U.K.
Onboard Video of Uber’s Fatal Crash Proves Humans, Nor Machines Can be Trusted
Before we get to a video that will probably give you chills and your kid’s nightmares, let me just point out that, while some outlets claim this is the first fatal accident involving a self-driving car in the States, it isn’t. Remember when the Tesla Model S didn’t recognize a semi truck in front of it and killed its driver? Yeah, that happened. Be that as it may, Tesla isn’t in the spotlight today; Uber is, and so is the entire human race. We have this technology that, when properly developed and tested, could be absolutely amazing and save lives. Yet, we’re putting it in the hands of the general public for testing and, if Tesla drivers haven’t proven they don’t have the discipline to test a potentially dangerous technology, this Uber driver definitely has.
Breaking: Uber-Branded, Self-Driving Car Strikes and Kills a Pedestrian
A pedestrian was struck and killed in Tempe, Arizona, by a self-driving car over the weekend, according to a report from the The New York Times. The incident occurred this past Sunday at 10 pm local time and involved an Uber-branded vehicle traveling in autonomous mode with a human safety pilot in the driver’s seat. Neither the system nor the human driver were unable to avoid the collision. The pedestrian involved was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk when she was struck by the vehicle.
This is the first known case of a pedestrian killed by a self-driving vehicle.
In response, Uber has suspended its public self-driving testing, including programs in Tempe, San Francisco, Toronto, and Pittsburgh. “Our hearts go out to the victim’s family. We are fully cooperating with local authorities in their investigation of this incident,” Uber said in a statement.
The incident follows a high-profile fatality back in 2016, when Joshua Brown was killed in a collision while operating his Tesla Model S in Autopilot mode. The system failed to recognize an 18-wheeler crossing the highway when the sedan passed under the trailer at highway speeds.
