Classic Recreations has come up with an 800-horsepower Shelby Cobra in full carbon attire for Shelby American's 60th birthday. Only ten examples of the 800-horsepower two-seater will be produced. Each of these track-only cars will set you back a whopping $1.2 million.

Overview

To gear heads across the country and around the world, the name "Cobra" really needs no introduction. It is a car that dates back to the early ‘60s. The Cobra was developed in collaboration with AC Cars and Shelby, with Carroll Shelby at the helm.

2022 marks sixty years since Shelby American came into existence. Classic Recreations based out of Oklahoma believes that now is the ideal time to pay tribute to the celebrated racing driver and his from, with a very special version of the Cobra. The end result? A classic body combined with cutting-edge technology.

The Build

Do bear in mind that even the classic Shelby Cobra wasn't exactly a powerhouse. The tubular frame, aluminum body, and 7.0-liter V-8 engine of the Mark III Cobra weighed just roughly 1,090 pounds. And, depending on the engine, the Cobra kit cars with fiberglass bodies were up to 200 lbs lighter.

However, Classic Recreations has now created this 1965 Cobra made completely from carbon fiber. The Diamond Edition is based on the contemporary Shelby CSX Cobra and not only looks good, but it also helps in significant weight savings - up to 88 lbs lighter

The Insides

In the cockpit, the carbon look will contrast well against the beautiful leather surfaces, chrome-framed analog round dials, and a steering wheel with a real wood rim. There are diamond emblems and a commemorative autograph by Carroll Shelby on the dash. The body is composed of autoclave hardened carbon fiber, and the cabin is now roomier, thus amounting to greater legroom.

The Performance

Classic Recreations has plonked a proper hammer under the hood. The engine is a third-generation Ford Performance Coyote V-8 mill with a VMP blower that delivers over 800 horsepower to the rear wheels. Sidepipes will allow the carbon Cobra to exhale and I'm sure the growl from that V-8 will be brutal.

The feather-light race car features a six-speed manual Tremec T-56 transmission, along with a six-piston Wilwood brake system on all four corners. The use of independent suspensions all around is expected to produce excellent road holding.

To Sum It Up

The Cobra will be produced and assembled in a new section of Classic Recreations by an expert team of designers and technicians. I, for one, can’t wait to see one of these out on the track. This special Cobra with a Willow-Springs backdrop would certainly be a sight to behold.
