We just got word of the 480-horsepower, 634 pound-feet of torque Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition last week and we're continuing on the same note this week thanks to Jay Leno.

The charismatic car collector slash YouTube personality welcomed none other than FoMoCo CEO Jim Farley, who gave out more backstage details about Ford's new electric car.

We get the answer to a question that's been bothering a lot of people

Let's face it: Ford's decision to slap its new electric crossover with the Mustang nameplate has been met with dismay by a huge chuck of the Blue Oval's fanbase and we believe the fans are right. The Mustang is an iconic name given to a legendary sports car and while the Mach-E might have the performance credentials right, it's simply miles away from the pony car in terms of status and adulation.

Well, thanks to this meeting between Jay Leno and Jim Farley, we can hear loud and clear from FoMoCo's CEO himself why the Mustang Mach-E is called like that. According to Farley, Ford's idea was that "they didn't want to create a commodity product" and rather decided to "put emotion into an electric vehicles, and that's why we started with the Mustang."

Names and marketing decisions aside, the video is almost half an hour long and if you're not impressed by the entry-level Mustang Mach-E on display, then the 1,400-horsepower version of the crossover might pique your interest.

That one paid Jay Leno a visit, too, and in case you forgot, it uses seven electric motors, removable front driveshafts (for more drifting prowess), and a 56.8-kWh lithium-ion battery.

The body kit itself looks menacing but it's also highly functional - all the aero pieces you'll see attached to it generate 2,300 pounds of downforce at 160 mph. Oh, and to put it in Vaughn Gittin Jr.'s words, the Mach-E 1400 is "infinitely tunable" and "could behave any way you want."

About that and other juicy details you can learn more from the video below.
