Alfa 8C Competizione received the 2006 Production Car Design of the Year award in Car Design News magazine’s annual awards contest. Over 73 per cent of their readers voted the new Italian sports car as one of the first contenders.

First debuted in full production format at the Paris International Motor Show last autumn the Alfa 8C Competizione was the first Alfa Romeo built supercar to arrive on the market for several decades

The car is inspired from several classic Alfa sports racing cars, and is the creation of the head of the Alfa Romeo Design Centre, Wolfgang Egger.

The Audi R8, which polled 71 percent, followed the Alfa 8C Competizione home in the Car Design News category reserved for production cars. Another exciting new Italian sports car the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, placed third with 49 percent.

The Saab Aero X, created by designer Alex Daniels won the Car Design News award in the concept cars category .The Aero X Concept debuted last March at Geneva Motor Show and become the ultimate concept car of 2006. Second and third places in this category went to the Citroën C-Metisse and Mazda Nagare respectively.
