Now this is as heartbreaking a story as you’ll ever come across. Not that we cried or anything, but we feel for the owner of this 2008 Ferrari F430 Novitech for the ordeal he had to go through. On the flip side, this is also a reminder to all of us that car insurance, while maddeningly expensive, can still be the best thing that ever happened to your car.

In any case, here are the details. That car, as we’ve mentioned, is – or was – a 2008 Ferrari F430 Novitech that caught fire on the German Autobahn recently while going at 80 mph around 5 in the morning after the owner’s eventful night of club-hopping. As soon as the fire began, the owner quickly pulled over at the side of the highway, got out of the car and made a quick getaway, avoiding any injuries in the process.

Unfortunately, his Ferrari wasn’t as lucky. As soon as the fire was stopped, the F430 Novitech was reduced to a twisted heap of hot metal. What’s worse, the car didn’t have any insurance on it, driving the owner, according to people who witnessed the fiery spectacle, to tears after seeing his precious supercar get engulfed in flames.

Kirby’s first exposure into the world of automobiles happened when he caught Knight Rider on television as a five-year old boy. David Hasselhoff didn’t leave much of an impression on him (that happened later on in Baywatch), but KITT certainly did. To this day, Kirby remains convinced that he will one day own a car with the same ‘spirit’ as the original KITT (not the 2008 monstrosity). He doesn't know when that will be, but until then, he’s committed to expressing his love for KITT, and all cars for that matter, here at TopSpeed.  Read More
